2017 Ondrej Nepela Trophy Ladies SP

That level 2 on the StSq for Lena isn't great - she's usually much better at getting all her levels across the board.

Lena versus Rika is the most interesting part of this competition, probably. Charming bad-posture queen versus charming bad-posture queen. Both used to be bastins of consistency are are now definitely struggling and risking not getting out of their respective countries post-Nationals, because of the depth.

Lena's spins have really gone downhill.

I love Rika and it hurts me to say this, but I think her chances of making it out of Japan after nationals are second to none. I think Lena's chances are a bit better, mostly because Russia has 3 spots for everything, but it's not looking too optimistic either.

Still hoping these two can still pull it together though, if not this year, then maybe next.

Do someone have Judges names? Who's Judge No 6?

I think Rika had a better outing here overall. Radionova is just not screaming confidence to me, as she used to. This sort of carried over from the test skates and hasn't changed much in terms of impression with this performance. Rika was unhappy a bit but apart from the UR on the 3T, considering her troubles last season, I think this was very good.

I think this is what it is, also they introduce judging panel before events. Hana Basova is HARSH.

Judges are always introduced. I think even when scoring was 100% anonymous judges were still introduced by name and number (but judge no 1 in the arena was not necessarily judge no1 on the sheet). I *think* there was even a 10th judge and one random judge's scores were not even included. Perhaps this was only for ISU championships but I think I remember something like that in the first years we had IJS.

Per camerman incompetence, I can't see the tano vs. rippon on Zhenya's axel. Does anyone know which one it was?

Medvedeva's SP is beautiful, this season she has probably her best programs.

I can see improvements on the expression and the SS.

Actually she improved her posture this season while her spins are more centered than last season but much more conservative (she had a stunning biellmann few years ago).

Until I saw Med's SP, I thought she might be losing her National Championship to one of the young phenom's. I no longer think that's true. Unless she gets injured I see her winning everything this season, including the OGM. She's a goddess.

Yeah, I'm going through the protocols and she is usually the lowest score that's thrown out... for EVERYTHING, GOE or PCS. I mean, good on her, if she's actually holding skaters to a higher standard.

But dayum, she gave Leonova 5.25 for interpretation. :slink:

I don't think we'll see her judging the GPF or Olympics given those events love their scoring records.

Agreed. She seems like she's now "holding it together" at this point rather than getting stronger. Her jumps are not as light and effortless as they used to be, and even her spins look less secure. I'm hoping she can hold it together for Russian Nationals... it'll be tough for her to make the Olympic team, but she really does deserve it. And this is one of her better short programs too.

I think Lena should stop doing the illusion spins and then it would look so much better. Hoping for a better performance in the free, but I'm really nervous for her.

Good point, also because her leg sometimes isn't high enough so i wonder if judges are actually rewarding her for the difficult entry.
