, I agree, she sure has some special spark around her presence, and when she's skating/performing - I can see a true joy in that experience for her

I agree! I think people are really writing her off...Well, for me, Maria is a safe bet on the podium. Don't forget she was 2nd and 3rd in last year GP events, qualified for the GP Final, and she is in a better shape this year. Her jumps are visibly better in the most recent senior B event. Her programs put me to sleep, but her consistency should get her on the podium, probably after Kaetlyn.
Heheh I knew that was you before I looked at the usernameI guarantee no-one will be as fabulous as Queen Kailani.![]()
SC is always a gimmee for Osmond as long as Medvedeva isn't on the entry list. She has an adoring audience on her side ready for her standing ovation. That never fails to sway the judges.
And her MR program is fabulous.
I'm pleased I'm not the only one looking forward to seeing Kailani again, after her fabulous performance at Nebelhorn! :hap36:

As much as I hate to agree with a prolific Mirai basher, Chuckm is 100% correct here.
I have no idea where to put Ashley Wagner in the prediction game. The earlier Grand Prix's are always so hard to predict, because there is no guideline if one doesn't know the form of a skater. Ashley has the goods to win this or be end up 7th or something. This is hard.
I think you need to look at the results from previous SC competitions. Kaetlyn has won the event once, in 2012. Matter of fact, Kaetlyn finished as far back as 11th in 2015. So much for the 'gimmee theory'. Also, both Ashley and Anna P. have previously won this event.
I am with Andromache, that the field is stacked and anything can happen.
But who says she's portraying a character from the film? Maybe she just likes the music? Not all programs have to be character driven. When they're not, skaters usually have dig deeper to portray a sentiment/emotion/whatever.

2012 SC - first GP - won
2013 SC - withdrew after SP; Lipnitskaia won. (also withdrew from CoR due to injury)
2014 SC - did not compete due to injury - Pogorilaya won
2015 SC - just returning from injury - finished 11th - Wagner won
2016 SC - 2nd to Medvedeva
Kaetlyn was struggling with injuries and/or recuperation from 2013-2015. When she was NOT injured or NOT competing against Medvedeva, she won.
That means she is really very good, but not invincible, when she is healthy. And when she's not healthy and good, she loses. That's how it is, as it should be.
I agree. Why all the shade against Osmond. She has the tech and the talent to win gold. If she outskates everyone and wins the gold, good for her. It is not like the girl has no talent she is the
reigning World Silver medalist.
That said she has some good competition, Ladies field is amazing. Good luck to all of the Ladies!

No shade against Osmond from me, I think she's among top 5 in the world, a terrific skater. My shade, having observed in person a couple of Skate Canada competitions and part of the London Worlds; is more against "home cooking". I saw 3 fall Chan win Worlds over a relatively clean D10, a very sloppy Chan win a close decision over a sloppy Hanyu at SC last year, or Vittue/moir returning from a 2 year layoff to edge Chock/Bates by less than 1 point last year. Whenever the competition was close, the Canadian always seemed to edge the competition. I expect no difference in the SC ladies this year. If Osmond is close to Pogo, Maria, or Wagner, I expect Osmond to come out on top.

I would say that it's the same all over the world.... not just in Canada
Let's hope all skaters skate clean and that we do not have to argue after about who was unjustly favoured and held up.
