I kind of agree that the costume is too sexy for a 15 year old. Very interesting EX overall though. (Though honestly I think almost all show programs are unwatchable, including this one.)

There are many programs like that. Watch performances from older eras and see. Pretty much every top program from Kristi Yamaguchi's 1992 Malaguena and onward followed this sense of pacing and importance of musicality, I'll create viewing list for you if desired. Also note how much better the "simpler" spins of this program go to the music. This choreography is so much better than in the programs we see today and the PCS skaters receive today need to be judged on all-time scale. Current era choreography and interpretation in ladies skating is vastly diminished from what it could be, nobody these days should be scoring above the 8 range on those components.

I honestly think Sotskova has an old school packaging this season. Of course she is handcuffed by the necessary difficulty of skating under CoP and judging trends in general to a degree but her FS to me is anything but busy and the program itself lets you sort of drift through the movements. It really is guided by the music and is better appreciated when viewed as a whole movement. Her spins are very strong technically but yet stay refreshingly classic in appearance.

TBH: I'm surprised the people who complain about busy programs that lack purpose and are excessive don't sing her praise. She seems to receive very little attention except by those who say they fall asleep who I also notice griping about programs that are to busy. :shocked: I'm a fan obviously but I really think her FS this year is a great example of subtle movements that combine with a musical movement to create something a little different.

I'm loving her arm variations and I think she deserves scores over 210 when she is clean considering today's tendencies :love:

Her style is very Caro. And she is as tall if not even taller. What she loses in speed and elegance she compensates by more difficult tech. At the same time, many people can't get tired praising Caro while disregarding Maria. And their scores are very far apart which is not right. Again the people who say over and over again how underscored the Japanese ladies are don't bother to defend Sotskova - "not their battles" as some of them admit. Well, at least honestly.
 
From what I've seen so far this season, Medvedeva and Zagitova are a lock for the Olympics. After COR, I was counting Radionova out, but she proved me wrong. Not a bidg fan of her style, but she is a fighter. I think the fight for the 3rd spot will be between Radionova and Sotskova. Polina might have a chance as well, depending on how consistent she will be in her GP assignments.
Liza finally had a good skate and landed the 3A, but she lacks speed and her programs seem quite empty.
Ana I think just wrote herself off the list with the Skate Canada performance. I love her, and I really want her to make the team, but this is her second major breakdown in FS, after worlds last year. I don't thik the federation will risk sending her to Olympics, especially with how deep the Russian field is right now.

For me, Maria just doesn't have the wow factor... she is rather bland out there. She should do something in this sense, maybe a crazy EX or a crazy costume:eeking:, she's too proper right now even in the K&C... lol:roll9:

She has a beauty in her skating that's not easily noticed by many people. I loved her skating very much since I first saw her skating to the Nuevo Tango. And I agree that she gets less praise than she deserves for good qualities in her skating. I guess judges generally like her and give her nice GOE but technical panels sometimes destroy her chances with ambiguous UR calls.
 
I would hardly say Zagitova and Med are locks for olympic medals. Zag barely won and both have fallen. The Japanese ladies will provide a solid threat and Carolina cannot be discounted. I don't think Osmond has enogh tech to really compete or pcs. The battle s for that third lady's spot. Maria has had the cleanest programs but just not the wow factor. if Anna was not injured/coming back from injury and regained her confidence she would be an awesome choice but I am not sure she can get it togther in time. So Maria looks to be in the lead; we will see if Liza and Elena cna gain enough momentum and clean up their programs. I really don't think the other lady's are in the mix ie Polina t. I haven't looked but did poor Leonova get an GP event? Kind of sad how she has been dumped and never regained her world silver form.

I love her SP this season. I did not care for it in the test skates, but in Finlandia it was just :love:
I will never like that pink dress though..

What is this drivel? "Poor Leonova" got 2 GPs including NHK this week. If she doesn't compete well enough to win medals that doesn't mean she has been "dumped." People need to quit acting like skaters deserve medals just for participation or something. And Evgenia isn't a lock for a medal because she fell one time? :rofl: She still won the competition by 15+ points. Where is Carolina going to make up that kind of deficit? And why don't you wait to see what Polina does before you write her off?
 
Medvedeva IS a lock for A olympic medal. Unless she withdrews or got poisoned/"Kerrigan-ed". But the Gold is far from locked for anyone. Said that both Medvedeva and Zaigtova ARE locked for the Olympics team.

Medvedeva is in the lead by a country mile.

She is the favourite to win the gold medal at the Olympics, she is the leader in ladies figure skating of the past 2 years so no matter what she is going at the Olympics.

Zagitova is in second right now: the only russian who is not medvedeva that won a GP event so far, she is coached by Eteri Tutberidze so even the Fedknows that she is the best coach in ladies so it's safe to bet on her students.

The third spot is interesting: because Eteri has also Polina Tsurskaya but i'm very skeptical that they will give all three spots to Eteri's skaters, and CSKA is still the favourite in Russia, i'd say Sotskova is probably the favourite right now because of the silver medal.
