Evgenia Medvedeva

Here we go. Quite interesting interview, Zhenya as always polite and determined, wishing her to get 100% healthy soon and good luck! :agree:

Interview:

- Zhenya, how did you feel at this competion?
- I felt quite confident, because the Japanese audience always warmly welcomes, always supports. I was pleased to perform here. Yes, not always everything is easy, but you need to cope with all the difficulties. This makes us stronger.

- In an FP, you had an unexpected fall from the first jump. How did you manage to regroup and make the combination with 3F later on the program?
- I just knew that I have no other choice.

- Is it difficult to concentrate and perform the program, if the first element did not turn out?
-It's not that difficult, and it's not like you skate on 'autopilot mode', instead 'selfpreservation instinct' starts. You realize that you have only one chance to make the combination so you go and do it. Just go and do it.

- Everyone noticed the tapes on your feet. Do you feel well?
- In fact, there are minor problems with the right ankle, but we are managing, coping with it. There is nothing bad/serious. All is well.

- What is most important for you in any competitions?
- My main goal is to show the clean skate/programs, not for the scores, but for my inner self because I want to finish my programs and understand that, 'yes', the competition is over and you show you best, the absolute maximum of what you can do. You want to see happy faces of your fans, your parents, and coaches, because they know, that you give it all. To skate without mistakes is 'worth a lot'. This is a completely different emotion, compare to non-ideal/imperfect skate.

- Did you nervous waiting for scores in 'Kiss & Cry" this time?
- You always have nervoues moments while waiting for scores. You always get nervous. And it does not matter, have you skated clean or not.

- But it's not what you think: I'm first or suddenly not?
- No, I do not think about it.

- Now there is a break for the Grand Prix finals. What do you plan on doing?
- I would like to gain physical and mental strength and with new powers continue to work and prepare for the Grand Prix finale.

- This will be your fifth final, including junior finals. What does this mean for you?
- Nothing. Just another Grand Prix finale.

- So you do not consider it an achievement for yourself?
- I have enough experience, and I think that this experience is positive. I quite well know how these competitions are held, what is it, what are the goals. So I will go to the finals with calm soul.

- Your first junior final was also in Japan, in Fukuoka. Remember?
- Yes, it was unforgettable.

- Yuzuru Hanyu got injured in this GP in Osaka. Do you want to say some to him?
- Yes, lots of athletes were very upset that Yuzuru got injured and couldn't compete here. We don't often meet at the competitions, but when this happens, then, as Misha Ge said, the three of us get along really well.
Most importantly, I want to wish Yuzuru do not think about anything, recover and continue to work with new powers/energy. I am sure that his relatives, close people will support him. I wish him a very speedy recovery.

- Your birthday soon, how will you celebrate your 18th?
- There are no plans. Birthday my favorite holiday. I'm pretty calm about this. Perhaps I will celebrate wtih close friends. But I will not have any 'noisy' party. But a shindig (big party) will not take place.

- Why do not you like birthdays?
- My favorite holiday is the New Year (note in Russia New year is like Christmas) because it is filled with magic. But a birthday is just a day whe you become a year older and that's it.

- Good luck Zhenya and thank you.

Sveta thank you so much for the translation!

Evgenia :pray::pray::pray::love:

You're welcome, it's not hard for me, it's just if there is an official translation it's obviously better quality, sometimes I struggle with the correct translation ;)

I'm so impressed with how she manages to stay calm and confident even with that minor injury and the uncharacteristic errors.
That's my girl Zhenya!

I so relate with her not liking birthdays haha.

Wishing Zhenya luck and I'm glad the problems arent too serious. I'm confident we'll see the old Zhenya back in the GPF :)

This part is my favorite

Thank you, Sveta!

At least we got some news about her leg condition. I hope she will get better before GPF. I need to see her happy and smiling again.

I think NHK Trophy is a nightmare.
Does anyone else think like me ??
Skate Kaneada
Cup of disaster
NHK Nightmare

Better to think of some new names for these events. At least Cup of Russia was the most decent. I am glad I spent money on that one.

Does anyone know if aside from her ankles, whether Zhenya was completely well this weekend? She seemed really hot after both programmes and looked clammy before she even started her gala pieces :/ Don't know if maybe she's down with a virus and it's knocked her sinuses out a bit which would affect her rotations

I have no doubt she is very tired and exhausted. It might be not a serious injury, more because of fatigue and stress.

Thank you for sharing! She's so articulate in English now! And her favorite food is rice, especially with salmon? lol I thought last time she said something like fruit ice. Aww and her phone is her best friend, just like almost everyone of the iGeneration. So impressed with how she keeps improving her English and has all this positive energy around her. She's such a fun person!

I wonder if any of her Russian team mates are as fluent in English as she is becoming? Other than having an interest in the language, she also likely has more foreign interviews due to her podium placements, which might cause her to practice more often.

The only ones I've seen speaking English in interviews are Maria Sotskova, Elena Radionova and Sofia Samodurova. (And Evgenia ofc!) I'm not sure who else!
