2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Ask your Russian friends/relatives what they think about Mutko and his team )

They dont care. They blame all on west / IOC / Wada / Rodchenkov and so on.
As for Mutko and his team, they are split, some think there are not enough proofs, other think they are just "more of the corrupt politicians, all they are, ours and the western, so who cares".

Duma (Russian Parliament) will discuss the matter on Friday. So, probably on Monday he'll make his speech. I'd say it's 70% that Russia will allow Russian athletes to complete at 2018 Olympics under neutral flag.
Code:

I would say a wise strategy would be to
1. make sure all the athletes go
2. do the most possible lobbying with IOC to get all the applications processed on time to make sure everything works out
3. still support the athletes financially even though they compete under neutral flag
4. brag about those medals all the same, and even rub on everybody's faces how CLEAN russian athletes won everything despite adversities.

Have any of the athlete's made public statements regarding this situation? Do they still want to go if the entire team can't go with them? If none of the skaters are banned, do you think they will all go to Korea, or boycott in support of the rest of the team? I don't know how enthusiastic I'd be to stand on the podium without MY flag lifting into the air......By the way, will they at least play the Russian Anthem if Med, or any Russian athlete wins??

As far as i read on Dec 12 there will be some discussion between russian athletes and they will decide. But right now it looks like they all will go if they want. Putin doesn't seem to care about this at all.

If that's true, I hope they go. Especially Evgenia, she has been the face of Ladies skating for 2 straight years and now. With her recent injury, she could use some positive motivation these days. Can you imagine how stressful it must be for these athlete's to train under this cloud.....I truly feel for them.

So Putin spoke out. He talked about the sport issue at some other random public meet

- the decision was motivated by politics
- the TUEs issue: "the competitors of russian athletes come and bring tons of papers, one has this disease, and the other has another, they are all sick. Maybe they should compete at Paraolympics? But no, they all compete, take forbidden medicine, they have clear advantage in competition. But for some reason nobody pays attention to this".
- "collective responsability" is not a thing in most legal systems in the world.
- the most important: "I repeat it once more: Russia will not block anything and will not create obstacles for the athletes who will want to compete"

I'm so happy for all young ladies today, wish them lots of PBs and new WRs at free skate!

That’s how American athletes like Biles and Williams have been having advantages. Also there are some that got caught and still gets to compete and the US has never been banned.

Trusova confirmed that she (and probably Tarakanova too, i'd add) won't participate at the Russian Champ because of her age.

If it's true, maybe this is a smart decision. Many girls who skated well at Russian Nationals showed average results at Juniors. Tsurskaya, Sotskova, Gubanova. Also I'm glad that means Tarusina is in, which spot was stolen by Sakhanovich. But if Medvedeva WD (I hope so, it's better to fully recover her injury and be ready for Euros) along with Pogorilaya, then it won't be so exciting. But still we will have Alina and Alena. These two girls will make any competition looks interesting.

Im still entirely freaked out by that dude who was caught doping, and then came up with a major story where his gf traveled somewhere, got sick, visited some shady doctor who prescribed her some shady unlabeled meds, which she kept taking even when she came back to usa. And then those meds had the doping thing, so it got into his body while they were making out. The dude got away with that.

The TUEs have another issue - because people may say "well, russians could just TUE too why not". The med system of Soviet Union and now Russia has its own development, and there are many meds that undergone clinical tests in russia, with results being published in russian in russian journals. There is a major lack of knowledge about those in the west, and it is fairly impossible to get a TUE for one of those, even though they are entirely and perfectly valid medicine. See meldonium for example.

Won't participate as Sr or at all? Sorry, I don't follow Jr very much, but these girls are fab so I'm starting to pay more attention.
