2018 US Championships Sr Men SP

I could maybe take this if you only mentioned Patrick, but Shoma? Shoma barely shows any of his skating skills with his constant 2 footed skating and crossovers.

Hanyu has a lot more crossovers and fewer linking movements in his programs. I don't think this is up for debate.

The others definitely have better SS than Rippon. But Zhou?? Come on. He is getting better but elegant and refined are not words I would use to define him. But, I agree that Zhou's and Adam's basic SS are at about the same level (Ashley's SS are better than this.. not the best but better than those two). The difference is the performance quality and musical interpretation. He does every movement with pizazz and his upper body movements are among the best in the world. And, he performed a perfectly clean program with beautiful spins. You might not like this program ( I don't) but he sells the hell out of it.

I think his bladework is decent. It’s not the best, but def better than Vincent. Above the ankle, he definitely is in the top echelon with movement and positioning.

I thought the latest gossip was that they were engaged?

they are definitely engaged. But the emotional program was Grant. I like Nathan but really the Americans really propped up his pcs - watch those edges and skating skills sorry he is significantly behind Rippon and Brown even Grant an d certainly Hanyu and Chan.

And Nathan'[s costume did not help his artistry - I saw no relationship with the program at all - I am not sure what his coaches are trying to do or say but I own a Lululemon jacket trimed in white that would be better.

GRACIE! HAHAHA!

Oh, that’s priceless! I love Gracie’s new candor!

I  even more that she's standing up for herself, with words, eloquent and on point. Way to go, Gracie. I really admire that she's present, cheering for her friends, and sharing herself via social media. This way she doesn't have to sink into regret at not competing herself. Brava, brave girl.

I didn't come into the night planning to watch everything, but the performances and all the jokes here kept me going. Great job by the men tonight and all the shady queens here  That second group really got things going.

I'm glad to eat my words that this was going to be a spatfest. After that first group i had my doubts but we saw why the US has the most depth by far in Men's skating right now. It was a mix of old and new skaters bringing it.

the performance of the night for me was Grant Hochstein.

than nathan chen
adam rippon
vincent zhou
I totally agree - something emotionally gripping about Grant but I am sorry Nathan and that costume = no no no. He is a great jumper but he is not an artist; if he is an artist than Osmond is a master artist and Tennell is Michelle Kwan already. Nathan is working on his pcs but watch his feet - those are not edges of beauty. He is not horrible but he just is over marked or over regarded.

Were those words delicious?

I agree that this isn't that great of a vehicle for Jason. I know he loves Hamilton and it is a well crafted program but I just don't think it suits him.

Agree. "Hamilton" might be terrific as a fun show program but I think it's too camp at this elite level of competition. It lacks sophistication and refinement somehow.
