2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

And let me say, while I love Nationals every year and love most of the American skaters, the inflation has gotten a bit out of hand.

The zipper is cool. Looks like a steel backbone.

I barely even was able to focus though. I am totally in shock about Rippon and Brown.

I think it is a great statement package ... stand him out from the field, very avantgarde package to 'curate' the program content. Curious on the fabric they used... like the matte finish, no glitter (unless you count zip). The music has some industrialised mechanising section kind of remind me of 1984.

SO YOUN!!!! Ok i am off to Korea national.

I could actually see the committee selecting Chen, Zhou and Rippon. Miner has been so off the radar internationally and of the 4, his ISU personal best scores are the lowest, so he is the one I could see potentially being booted. Perhaps they will send Rippon to the Olympics and Miner to Worlds.

There's more pressure at Nationals than the Olympics. At least, that's what the gymnasts say. I'm not sure it's the same for figure skaters.

Well, in other sports too. My semifinals in tennis were the hardest from a nerve standpoint. I knew I could win the whole thing, but I had to get through the SF. After sweating out a win I was much looser for the final. I'm sure it's the same in figure skating. The thought of losing the *chance* of doing well at the Olys probably throws them off at Nats because that is the gateway to the 'finals'/Olys.

I really don't understand this argument at all...what does it matter in 2022 if he went to the Olys this year or not? Who knows if he will still be around in 2022?

I think da96103's point was that Olympic experience could be a valuable thing
If Zhao was to come back 4 years later to try and win it

I agree. Adam had no quad. No one should go to the Olympics without a quad.

My Oly Selection:

1 - Chen (obvious)
2 - Rippon (body of work + close podium finish)
3 - Zhou (The future of the sport, give him the experience)

I could see that happening, but I hope it doesn't. I think Ross should be rewarded for skating like he did tonight.

imho, the selection committee should send Nathan, Adam, and Vincent. Ross skated brilliantly and had the skate of his life, but they call it that for a reason--it only happens once. I doubt he'll repeat anything like that at the Olympics. Looking at body of work, Adam has a much better resume than Ross. Vincent might not have it, but it's only his first year in seniors internationally and he did quite well in juniors. Plus, he's generally technically far superior to Ross, which the fed should acknowledge and reward. Plus, the fed would face a PR disaster (like 2014 with Mirai) if Vincent were booted off the team.

at any rate for me nathan chen just won by over 20 points.

great job nathan,
ross miner did a memorable skate
vincent zhou put the pressure on - even with ur's wound up on podium. he did try 5 quads.
