2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Concerning the conversation for the team competition at the Olympics and the U.S. lineup - the U.S. is strongest in men's singles (because of Nathan) and ice dancing. They need to maximize the points in those portions. I would think they would want Nathan to skate both the short and the long. No other U.S. man comes close enough to what he does. Ice dancing, on the other hand? They could use two different teams for SD and FD because all three teams (that are likely to make it) are strong and could finish in the same place in the team competition.

I just don't see them sending two male veteran skaters. Nathan, of course, is our current hope. Vincent is our future hope. I can't see bumping the silver medalist. It just seems wrong to me.

I'd love for Adam to get to go, but I don't see how that would work.

Yes, but I think it would be too hard to justify not sending the silver medalist, imo.

The spirit of the olympics is about dreams coming true and such.

Supposedly that is not the way they are being picked anymore and again I don't think they should be picked that way. The scores are always higher at Nationals than they are internationally. Team USA wants medals, not fulfilled dreams.

Going to be peltered for this but:
There was 0.68 difference between Ross and Vincent. Ross had two uncalled UR (4S and 3A). So...

However, I do believe that it should be split between Ross and Vincent. And Vincent would be the much better choice for Worlds, with spots on the line. Ross has never broken 250 internationally.

I think that's an interesting point. Maybe Miner for Olympics and Zhou for Worlds.

I have not watched any performances yet, I just wanted to say that I'm shocked at the results. This should be interesting in terms of the team.

After a solid 30 minutes of contemplation...
I would go with Chen, Zhou, and Miner for the Olympics, Rippon, Zhou, and Chen for Worlds, Rippon, Brown, and Hochstein for 4CC, and Krasnozhon, Pulkinen, and Hiwatashi to JW.

Good luck selection committee. Have fun!

Leaving the silver medalist out would be the perfect opportunity for USFSA to elucidate their new criteria. This isn't just about nationals. It's time to get people used to it because that is no longer the best way to choose.

I agree.

But Polina was our future hope in 2014... And now she's injured beyond belief because I think she got pushed too fast. I think they'll send Adam, Nathan, and Ross (just doubling down on my earlier prediction).

Aaaaand I'm dead. I think I may have burned some calories just by laughter alone tonight. Probably enough to cancel out 2 lime &a jalapeño seasoned tortilla chips. 2 out of the 20.

The rest will just come out in the toilet. Kind of like tonight’s event.

That was a crazy men's free skate. As a Ross fan I'm so happy for Ross! I'm sad for Adam, but if they're going by body of work, then maybe the team should be Nathan, Vincent, and Adam and send Ross to Worlds? Or send Nathan, Ross, and Adam to Olympics and Vincent to Worlds and 4CC. I'm watching the presser now on and Ross is confident he should be on the Olympic team in response to a reporter asking him if he ended up on the podium by a fluke. What a mess.

I hope I never hear the term, "body of work" ever again.

This is simple, Nationals is the biggest, most important US competition of the year. Every skater knows it and puts in the work for it.
Compete well there, you get rewards.

Adam should get World's, but the Olympics go to the top 3. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

Well guys of course I am heartbroken:sad21:

For those of you talking other sports, first Carson Wentz, now Jason:cry: Football gods, and skating gods I curse you!

Now that this is out of the way, :biggrin:and I have no investment in the decision, it will be verrry interesting. And congrats to Boss Miner, for the SOHL!

Then he would be doing two full competitions within a week-ish. I don't think he's going to want to jeopardize his chances in the men's competition.

I believe the top 3 should be sent to the Olympics. Adam made mistake after mistake in his long program. I don't think you can skate that terrible and still expect to be able to go to the Olympics.

I don't think Adam crumbled under pressure. He missed the 4Lz, but recovered very well. It wasn't until the end that disaster struck. I'm more likely to think the 3s was rushed due to loss of focus or excitement. I don't think the 3S was missed because Adam crumbled under pressure.

He didn't just "fall" on the 4Lz. He had multiple URs (including the 4Lz) and 2 popped jumps. That program wouldn't even be top 10 in the Olympics.

Russia doesn't have a team, though, does it? So it's Canada, Japan and the US. Canada is strong in all four events, then the US, then Japan.

I read they have a green light as an Olympic flag team.
