2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Fallout from the Ashley debacle maybe. I can see him hurting and angry with her and worrying about his fate. Perhaps deviating from his normal pre skate ritual to console her messed with his flow.

:shocked:Jesus. That's sure a thought out thing. Since, we're not privy to their conversations/situations, I wouldn't assume it to be that case. Also, being a seasoned skater, I'm sure Rippon should know better than to be too drawn in.

Pretty sure this is just a case of him having freezing over in the moment.:slink:

I am begging for someone please us here when it gets about I have to go into work and I can't keep checking my phone

I'm refreshing twitter and the icenetwork news page. I'll copy paste when it gets released. Should be any moment now right? It's 11:20am PST now?

This is what's most likely to happen... Zhou for Team event FP because he has the quads, Nathan for SP but can't worn him out.

why Rippon and not Brown? because Rippon finished higher?

I am a fan of his and I like his programs generally but I always wonder what's with these "forward crossovers" [I don't really know the proper term] he does lots and lots of in all his programs. Are they a good thing?

I'm not sure if they are more difficult but they do look better to me than the "ordinary" ones (and at the very least he does both unlike many skaters who almost exclusively do ordinary crossovers as transitions). You don't like them?
But he does a variety of transitions, no? Take a look at the twizzles, spread eagles, turns, and especially that entrance into the camel spin after the step sequence :drama: :gclap: :gclap: :gclap:

Prediction:

Olympics:
1. Chen
2. Zhou
3. Rippon

4CC:
1. Miner
2. Hochstein
3. Brown

Worlds:
1. Chen
2. Miner
3. Zhou

Who I think will be on the team:
Chen (definitely)
Zhou (the future, medal chances if he gets it together and everyone else doesn't)
Brown (BOW)
1st alternate: Rippon
2nd alternate: Miner
3rd alternate: Hochstein

If that happens, I really hope people will riot. Zhou just doesn't have maturity yet, as evidenced by his performances this season. Poor Miner, I really think should get to go since Nationals has to count for something. I would understand if he came third and had to take a fall for not having much notable performance in the World stage. But clearly, it's not the case since he looks sandwiched so safely between the two other who managed a podium finish.

For me, if Rippon is going, Zhou has to take a fall (for being so disappointing all year). Brown has been pretty awful this year, and his SP is something that is just does not work. If Brown goes, even though I like him, I riot.:ddevil:

Here's the thing in my mind:
They probably aren't going to pick Ross. He's not like Bradie or Polina in 2014 where they were kind of newcomers to the senior circuit and all (yes Bradie had done nationals but injured and never any GPs or majors) They've given him chances and this is the only time that he's succeeded, in kind of the same way that many ladies did at worlds last year: because others didn't.
Zhou may or may not get picked because his GPs were pretty awful and he consistently messes up the short program. That being said, he's the future and he has the technical content to compete with the big shots if he nails it.

Rippon and Brown should be hoping for BOW criteria. Both skaters made the GPF and finished in the bottom two, although Rippon placed higher. However, Rippon did not go to 4CC, Nationals, or Worlds last year because he was injured, and that's a big part of BOW. It's thanks in part to Jason that the US even has two spots, as he finished 7th and Chen finished 6th. They may wish to reward this the way they did with Karen or they may not since he was the lower-ranked skater and didn't medal. For what it's worth, Rippon competed at one challenger event and finished second, and Brown competed in one, finishing second, as well as the US championships, finishing third.
For the first tier, I think Jason has the advantage, as their GPF scores were only a point apart, and Jason competed at worlds and did well. This being said, Rippon's score here was two placements and 13 points ahead of Brown's.
For the second tier, I think it's a toss up. Although Brown has more competitions in this tier, Rippon has more medals and a higher score. That being said, Brown didn't really bomb out of anything. He just kind of... made mistakes that affected him, but he didn't Pogo out of anything.
For the third tier, Jason clearly has the advantage. He went to two competitions and medaled at both of them, with higher scores than Rippon had at his one competition at each competition of his.

Who I think will be on the team:
Chen (definitely)
Zhou (the future, medal chances if he gets it together and everyone else doesn't)
Brown (BOW)
1st alternate: Rippon
2nd alternate: Miner
3rd alternate: Hochstein

I really can’t see them picking Jason for the Olympics (although I strongly prefer watching him than Nathan or Vincent). He finished 6th here and had no clean quad or 3A in this competition. He had several subpar performances this season. With his limited technical arsenal he really needed consistently clean performances.

So. I caught up this morning and was absolutely shocked.

Not sure what the fed will do. If it was up to me I would go with Adam over Ross, as Adam has had a wonderful season and he was having a wonderful season last year too before the injury - none of them have a shot at a medal anyway, and I think Adam really does deserve to go to the OG.

That said, I understand if they choose to go with Ross as Adam chocked yesterday. :( so sad though

Prediction:

Olympics:
1. Chen
2. Zhou
3. Rippon

4CC:
1. Miner
2. Hochstein
3. Brown

Worlds:
1. Chen
2. Miner
3. Zhou

I feel like this will be the case too. But I really need Miner instead of Zhou at the Olympics. It's about consistency and Zhou won't get those PCS at the Olympics (that's just my wish, I know it's not realistic :/)

Rumor is that Ross is out. I hope it is not true. We will know soon.

Whose is your source? Who is your DeepThroat?

Looks like what I said earlier predicted this.

I said: If Ross get Mirai-ed, he would get his own eponymous verb, because the Mirai action is bumping off the bronze medallist and not the silver medallist.

The sky has turned as black as Nathan's Vera Wang with white stripes across the horizon.

Maybe Brown could benefit from a more experienced team? It was madness to include the quad as he even cannot rotate his triple axels fully (if judged properly). Would have been a much better idea to really train the rotations of all his jumps, I think. He had a horribly hard fall in the quad attempt that must have affected the rest of his jumping a lot.

Jason is incredibly well-trained. I don't think that's the issue. And having watched both 20-minute warm-ups prior to both segments -- he can do the 3A and a nice one at that. Between those two sessions plus the 6-minute warm-up, he easily did a dozen plus 3As, including a few in 3A-3T, fully-rotated, all on one foot. That is what makes what happened yesterday even more heartbreaking. I know it's hard to believe, but I saw it for myself.

The quad wasn't as consistent in practice, but he's kinda screwed if he doesn't include it at least in the FS. He is probably just as tired as the rest of us of being known as the "quadless" skater. It was risk and it didn't work.

I just think it hasn't been his season. I don't agree that he's suddenly over as a skater because of one really bad season. Honestly, while the jumps have been a struggle, there is no question he has improved in skating skills, flow, etc. He was the class of the field here.

I hope Jason isn't picked for the Olympics. The amount of consternation would be unreal and I don't think he's made a case anyway. Last season was understandable. He has a FAR better GP/Challenge fall than any of the other guys in the U.S. That wasn't the case this season. Not to mention the pressure on him that would mount on him due to such a decisions -- I saw Miki Ando (who also placed 6th at Japanese Nationals that year) crumble at the Olympics in 2006. There's NO way I want that for Jason.

I agree. Jason being picked over Rippon would be FURIOUS X 1000.

Hahahaha Jimmy Ma! People are loosing their minds. Maybe this will be good for figure skating? My husband asked me yesterday "Did I really hear someone skating to that song or was I dreaming last night?"
