2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Crazy scenario.

Olympics: Nathan, Vincent, Adam
Worlds: Nathan, Vincent, Jason
4CC: Ross, Grant, Alexander Johnson.

That is only an issue for the Olympics. They could have gone to Worlds, but they gave 1st alternate to bronze medalist Cain/LeDuc instead and left them out of the 4CC team entirely.

Wow.. you don't think they'd give Ross any kind of bone? I mean I wonder if they made a deal with Adam. We will send you to the Olympics but not worlds kind of deal?

Yeah but Vincent has had no consistency this season. Even last night all but one quad was called under rotated. So they are not using body of work they are using what Vincent in a perfect world could potentionally score. Not to mention he is young and developing and continue on after this season. This is Ross’s last chance.
True but you just said it this is Ross's last chance what a great stage for Vincent to go and learn and be the future not a swan song

Oh, bugger off you guys. This is how many athletes talk. It's just a way of psyching yourself up and not selling yourself short before big competitions. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but there's no need to be judgmental. And Adam actually has been the #2 US guy all season. Consistently. The international judges have rightfully given him the components to back that up. He popped two jumps last night. It'll change nothing. He'll be on that team.

It's not that this kind of talk is offensive to others, it's just that it makes the speaker look... well, pretty lame. :D

If this is the case with Worlds then the USFA committee can go love themselves in the corner. :dev2::ddevil::devil:

As if the Oly selection wasn't bad enough, it's like a salt to the wound scenario.

I think bragging a little is ok. Nathan does it but he makes it sound more like his own bravado and not about him being better than his rivals or that if he were to receive lower scores there must be some shenanigans going on. There's an art to it as well.

Rippon proclaimed that [bolded] was the case, per multiple news articles.

That's why I say it's a crazy scenario. I want Ross to get Worlds and Jason to get 4CC and be done with the season. But it's entirely that they will look at Jason's past history of getting spots for Team USA/peaking in March and give him Worlds on that basis.

See:

2013: 8th at Nationals, 2nd at Jr. Worlds wins free skate.
2015: 4th at Worlds
2017: Injured at 4CC, helps Nathan get three spots.

I really don't hope this scenario happens. But given they displaced Ross for Adam who finished 4th...I'm not putting past USFS to give more crazy teams/alternates.

On the other hand, I seem to recall that only top 5 can be considered, so maybe Jason isn't even in contention for Worlds spots anyway.

Honestly thats the team I hoped for.

Nathan was given, Adam did well besides this complete mess up of a free skate during the rest of the season.
I don't really see why Ross should have been chosen - one competition will not erase the other 4 years and while its important, I think that Vincent did well this year. Last years silver + gold at JW + second at Finlandia and fourth at CoC. And he's one the podium again.
I realise that this was probably the last chance for Ross but..besides the second place here he hasn't gone beyond a fifth place in the last two years.

I am not a Ross fan at all (find him very dated & cheesy), but at least he showed more complete skating, not just a bunch of UR bad quality quads with zero program or interpretation. Nathan is overrated as an artist to me too, but he's miles better than Vincent and his quads are at least rotated. Idk, Ross's track record has not been great over the years, but he was the silver medalist...not bronze. It seems unfair that he was the one that got bumped over a first season senior. Youth trumps experience, what's new.

Ross got Voronov-ed :(

Just had a thought! I'm sick so if it's a bad thought please excuse me. What about Nathan, Vincent and Adam to the Olympics, Nathan, Ross and Jason to Worlds, and Ross, Jason and a third choice for 4CC? Spread it around USFA.

I'd actually be interested in seeing an arrogant skater, as long as they could back it up hard. Like if Medvedeva went all Ronda Rousey I'd be so here for it. I think having that kind of unstoppable d-bag villain would also generate a lot more interest in terms of media coverage. I mean, I don't see it happening what with the traditionalism and expected prim and properness, but it'd be fun.

They did this in 2011. http://www.isuresults.com/results/fc2011/CAT001RS.HTM

They sent the top 3 to Worlds: Ryan, Richard and Ross. But they sent Jeremy, Adam, Armin to 4CC (4-6), when they could have easily went with top 3 there too (they did this for other disciplines). So this wasn't completely a new thing.

Excuse me but where? I just can't see anything and it's really not that I don't want to. He barely takes his eyes off the ice, and his expression is only ever indicative of pain, but not a tragic romantic pain but more like he's constipated.

Choreography? When? And his transitions are so misplaced. He does a spread eagle between the first two jumps when nothing is happening musically, but doesn't do one on IIII WIL LOOOOOVE YOUUUU :disapp: I mean it's not even entirely his fault ofc. And he did 8 jumps and only the last one matched the music :noshake:
I remember my impression from last night about Vincent's choreo had a lot to do with the moment where he touches his face with both hands during the crescendo of the first part of the program. There was actually a lot going on internally there. And in the section where he stops before going into the second, slower movement of the program. There was also a lot of open arms kind of stuff though--not that interesting. However, none of Ross' choreo was striking to me. I don't remember any of it and I watched it twice. [emoji53]

I thought Vincent's jumps, spins, and steps were timed nicely to the music. Nothing masterful, but fine. Same for Ross.

I can see what you mean about the "pained" expression. But it seemed like he was channeling something from the first moment and that it built as the program went along. Whatever he was channeling reached me. There was character and some emotional detail. I like things that are rough around the edges if they're heartfelt and passionate, which I thought this was. From Ross, I felt a "manicured performative blankness" until the last part which just seemed like smiling and then excitement.

Also, could be that Queen doesn't take me anywhere emotionally. But, neither does Moulin Rouge! at this point. [emoji23]

To be honest, I see no point of Nationals in that case. Seems like a pretty pointless exercise to go to Nationals if one doesn't have "body of work".

It's not. There's not only Olympic, but also 4CC and World spots on the line. As well as building BOW and reputation for future comps and seasons.

 Wasn't the proclamation supposed to be done in half an hour?

Late watching and declaring 'My olympic team' then:

Slaythan ever so cool under all the pressure.

Ross apart from nailing the tech including a quad salchow his performance was great.

Vincent knowing that he has to work on his under rotations(wasn’t Zakrachek in kiss&cry with him and Tammy?)… and his performance( he has said it himself). One month to do that  Love his dedication.

My first ’want’ for olympics was Adam. But crumbling like this when it means the most is concerning :( He really had the biggest oportunity, just skating his free as he had during autumn.

ETA it was a journalist who broke the news/rumours, right? Not the committee?

Ross got Voronov-ed :(

But Voronov unlike Ross got very good international results but performed badly at Nationals. I think that Russian Fed should let Voronov go at least to Euros but no... Voronov is like Wagner-2014 but which was dropped as Wagner-2018.
