2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens SP

i would like to be a fly on the wall and hear the conversation between Raf and Nathan. Of course, both may have been rendered speechless and there's an eternal long silence.

Aliev is really only 5 points off the podium. With the current state of men's, that's not enough of a gap to close the door on a medal at all.

Yes, but his PB is only 182.73 in the long. A lot of the other skaters could fall once or twice and still get that score. I have some doubts but stranger things have happened.

I don't think he has the FS or the skills to threaten the podium

He would need to be clean with two disasters

But this SP score is a HUGE accomplishment !

Final count!!

Men's SP SPLATFEST Tally:
Stayed on their feet!: 19 :agree:
Fell on their butt: 11 :drama:

But all top 5 gave squeaky clean high technical performances. That made up for those splats.

I mean 10 perfect quads and 5 perfect triple axels. Has that ever been achieved before.

Hi  I survived

Yuzuru. Welcome back. Welcome back. We were waiting for you.

Otherwise, I am sorry for Nathan. The stress was too much and he had to skate after that but you know, I watched what I could of his practice and it didn't seem good yesterday already. I also have questions about how he and Raf function and how Raf is even taking care of him, or not taking care of him.

Great skate for Javier and Boyang. Basically a happy me and to answer my own quandary from the beginning of this thread, good morning GS!

Wow, Denis Ten didnt qualify for the FS. Previous 2014 Olympic Bronze Medalist too ... I cant help but feel so bad since he was one of my favorites. I will fondly remember his Caruso SP at Trophee de France. An utter masterpiece!

Let’s not forget that Denis clawed back from 9th in the short to get that bronze.

:( Granted, he can’t do that tomorrow, as he didn’t make the final ... but perhaps someone else could pull off a major upset. It’s gonna be a nail biter!

Well it looks like it is up to Ice Dance to save the USFSA from the whole carton of Egg On Face.

Again.

Did anyone else read the story about how the Norwegian Oly Team ordered too many eggs, and had to send the extras back? I think they ended up with the USFSA.

Really except for Nathan and to some extent Patrick and Koloyda everyone really brought it. I suppose that makes it sting especially hard. Olympics are always a surprise though this always happens every olympics though the competitor it happens to isn't always american (carolina being hyped for torino olympics, chan for vancouver, and to lesser extents Mao and Evan).

USA had a very bad day today overall with skating, hockey and skiing and snowboard. I just hope adam doesn't feel pressure being hyped up now for "will he get the bronze" stuff by nbc now that the nathan narrative is dead (though the nathan olympic redemption story is not dead - that's what they will go to now but that sort of dovetails in with mirai's story and hers is more compelling I think on that angle).

will be interesting to see if the ladies competitoion is shaped up with the russian ladies getting psyched out though I bet russian media isn't nearly as pressuring as usa media is.

Nathan and RAF are used to making technical adjustments. This is new territory for them. Raf is used to Ashley, the fighting underdog. Handling emotions is not his thing.

I think Nathan's quietness had everyone thinking he had it under control. Most likely he saw everything around him and starting thinking this Olympics thing is bigger than I thought And they follow me everywhere. All this attention and the circus around you breaks your normal routine and distracts you.

I'd be happy with 4th place. Dima needs to make a statement that he can challenge for medals Worlds.

Is it just possible that Nathan peaked too early in the season? A shame he couldnt peak here at the Olympics but I am just throwing some reasons out there. His last two poor performances are quite alarming and worrying.

Top guys really came through for us today :yahoo:

In my conspiracy theory(?) - I think Nathan is being pressured to skate through injury from Raf or whoever - it doesn’t make sense that the quad lutz - his most consistent quad is suddenly just gone and his jumps constantly rotated in and out
