2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens SP

If he's skating through an injury I don't think his coach is to blame for that? A lot of elite athletes keep mum about their injuries for their own reasons.

Well yeah it’s ultimately Nathan’s choice - but other people are factors in his decisions like his coach, his sponsors, etc etc
Again this is just my conspiracy~:cool14:
But seriously I think attempting all these quads have given him an injury he’s fighting through - just look at how his skating has deteriorated - I doubt Nathan isn’t working hard - it looks like injury to me

Aliev did a Mirai by landing his first ratified ISU-competitive 4Lz at the Olympics, and in a combo too.

Javier's program was absolutely delightful. I've been looking forward to seeing it skated to its best, and I'm so glad for him that he got everything exactly in place this afternoon!

Vincent Zhou's 4Lz and 4F has no carrots only the 3T tag has one carrot.

He cleaned up his carrot garden and in the nick of time too.

Yuzuru's skate was so majestic and beautiful I almost cried. It did Chopin's Ballade justice. Truly an Olympic skate. I'm so proud of him and Javi, Shoma, and Boyang. I'm so glad they all skated cleanly. Such a shame about Nathan, though =( I feel really bad for the kid. He had so much pressure on him. I'm also really disappointed NBC didn't show the skates. Thank god for the twitch stream.

Evan in torino really wasn't the favoriate - johnny was in second going into the free and was the main us star then. so he did not get the same pressure as nathan

nbc is paying no attention to bradie. It's all nathan, adam, mirai and the shibs. that may be to her benefit.

Karen isn't getting any attention either, nor are Evan/Madison and Zachary/Madison.

The media sounds like a piece of cake when you have Eteri watching you everyday.

Seriously, I think they do a better job of replicating the pressure of competitions every day.

There’s always a high chance you’ll be shipped off to Siberia when Eteri is your main coach and you screw up. I fear for Morris right now, actually. ;)

It might actually be time for USFSA to get to begging Orser to take Nathan. I can't help but feel like he's going to need some serious rehabilitation after this Olympic experience.

A few notes.

1. Yuzuru Hanyu really is GOAT. He can come back from injury and do the perfect program. It was beautiful. Absolutely, beautiful. I do worry that he may not have the stamina for the long program . Jackie Wong of rockerskating has noted all week that his short program practices were good but errors keep creeping in for the long. However, mental strength is often superior to physical strength and he has all the mental strength in the world. So many people were counting him out due to injury but I always thought he could will his way to greatness.
2. Javier Fernandez: Wonderful entertaining skate. I think that his Quads are often some of the best executed lovely height and control. I think he may actually come away from this with a Gold medal because I think he has the physical stamina that Yuzuru might lack and he likes coming back from behind.
3. Shoma Uno. I love him so much. I feel like he has this dynamic commitment to everything that he does. His ability to land almost any jump is incredible. For some reason, he draws me in like no other skater. Everything is done at 110% (even his quads which he overrotates, haha)
4. Boyang Jin. Honestly, he is not my favorite skater. But, his jumps today were really impressive great height and control and smooth landings. I am happy to see him improve.
5. Dmitry Aliev: I like him. His SS are not at the same level as the top 3 here but he has a lovely musicality and he obviously has mental strength because he just performed the best short program of the year at the Olympics. Hope to see him continue to improve in the future.
Nathan Chen= never my favorite skater and I thought he would likely come in 4th or 5th at the Olympics not first but I am sorry to see him fall apart at these Olympics. He has lost his confidence. I hope he regains it and he does a great long program now that the pressure is off.
Mikhail Kolyada: Same as Nathan-- I don't like to complain about scoring but I think the PCS marks he received in both of the team event and this short are very generous. I would put him at the PCS level of Chen or even a bit lower but he got 2 points higher. I did not see a performance there.
Patrick Chan-- for all the talk about PCS inflation-- that certainly did not happen here. I guess that is what happens when you skate in a lower group. I would have increased his PCS by 2/3 points. It is really a lovely program and he performed it well despite the 3axel mistakes.

Great job to everyone! I hope they all kill it in the long program.
