"We are very happy with our performance," said Bobrova. "The coaches were happy and we got a higher score than in the team event."

"In the team event we skated more freely," she explained. "I was more nervous today. We skated really well in the team event and wanted to skate even better today. We had to stay focused not to make any mistake."

"Everything will be decided tomorrow," said Soloviev. "Today, everyone had to skate clean. The main battle is to come tomorrow (in the free dance). The scores are close. The two top teams have set themselves apart, obviously, but the battle for third place will be very close."

"We showed what we are capable of," he added, regarding the free dance. "Tomorrow we can do better. We have an amazing free dance. It comes out of our soul. Tomorrow it will be very interesting."

B/S are at a disadvantage because they aren't in the last group to skate. And they are vulnerable to being passed by Chock/Bates and/or Weaver/Poje.

I'd say actually the opposite of that. The judging seem to favor them here over both C/B and W/P. And I wouldn't be surprised to see them climb up some more places if they skate clean, of course, the door is open for all teams, though. It's clear no one can make huge mistakes.

Their FD is truly amazing. I saw them fight back at Euros when they threw everything in it they could manage. And it worked.
Beautiful music, beautiful story, emotionally executed.
The points are very tight up to the bronze medal and nothing is impossible. Provided they skate clean, they can definitely step up the ladder. Will it be enough for bronze, I'm not sure. But they could genuinely vow the crowds and the judges.
I hope they do. I'll send them the strongest vibes I can find in myself that early in the morning. :cheer2:

They lost. Their skating meant no Russian medal in ice dance for first time in 42 years

Which is sad but maybe they will medal at Worlds. I actually thought their FD was one of the best ones last night. Kurt did a good job of explaining what was going on in it and pointing out some nice little nuances that I missed.

Not sure! Maybe they want to be on dancing with the stars.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Even if Maia and Alex go to worlds there is no reason that B/S couldn't win a medal. As we saw with poor C/B anything can happen.

It’s possible. Even if someone won an Olympic medal there could be Post medal exhaustion!

That's my exact prediction. DWTS has chosen a very recent figure skating medalist the last two cycles for their new season, the ShibSibs are a natural fit. It was Evan in 2010, then Marlie in 2014, Maia and Alex are next.

Back onto Katya & Dima: it's too bad that they won't go, but I do respect their decision if they've had enough. I wondered about their reaction at the end of the FD what was going on, as she was also quite emotional in Sochi FD, but then clued in that last night was their swan song. If they miss worlds, then we've seen have some wonderful skates over the last few years and last night was a high note.

Gannon kept saying last time! Like he knows they aren’t going to worlds. Like he told them.
