2018 Olympic Figure Skating Ladies FS

But Evgenia will never have the Olympic champion title.
I'm sure that she'll be considered as an OG medalist and celebrated as this, at least in Russia.
And of course, she gained so much fans with this non-victory. I don't see how she wouldn't be invited in all shows.
She's so much loved especially in Japan and Russia and she was before this competition, now even more.

Ugh, this is also why I feel sorry for Alina (and why I suspect she has to hide her tears of joy). Probably most of Russia, esp the serious figure skating fans are rooting for Zhenya. They know her and love her, whereas Alina is still sort of the new kid. It's gotta be tough dethroning the queen. Just like if Shoma beat Yuzuru at Olympics, I guarantee you the Yuzu fans (including myself) would be out for blood... I hope Alina's team, and her fellow Russians celebrate her victory appropriately and don't deny her moment in the glory just because they are upset for Zhenya. That wouldn't be fair for Alina either.

Good point.

Although after the plushy ceremony, Zhenya and Alina were talking together and they looked pretty happy for each other, so I think within her team she'll be celebrated.

As for the Russians its hard to tell how they'll go, but I think they'll be very happy too because she got them their only gold of the games!

You guys know this is just the beginning right? Eteri's camp is full of girls flooding in to crash the IJS. It'll be fun watching the ISU squirm

I really do agree that Med lacks artistry. Yet another problem with the system - Med is apparently a better artist than Satoko or Carolina. But I also think she's way better artistically than Zagitova and it's an absolute farce that the PCS is just arbitrarily handed out to the point where it can't make a difference.

She won many competitions in the same way in the past few seasons. I hate to say this but this is Karma.

Of course she will. Her Mark will never be forgotten. But she's not an Olympic champion. If Med had upped her tech to meet Zagitova's, she would have won.

It was Eteri’s choice to milk the system that way, Evgenia is only one of her many students. Eteri tried it with all her girls, she had the same plan for Seraphima Sakhanovich. But Evgenia turned out as the best of the bunch - until Alina arrived. But still, at this point Med is much much better artistically and much less robotic than Alina imo.

Some of us are just sitting here like :rolleye::rofl: I understand your pain but are Evgenia fans really complaining that someone less artistic is winning??? Wonders never cease to amaze :rofl2:

Medvedeva really outdid herself here. But because of the PCS being capped at 80, it really wasn't possible to reward her for it.

That's the problem with the ridiculously high general level of PCS scoring that we're having right now. The significant improvements can't receive higher scores when the skater already was receiving 9.75s.

Not that, but something similar. The biggest problem in single and pairs skating is in the fact that PCS is not worth enough. TES went too high and they didnt adjust the system on time to award properly PCS to follow it. For TES and PCS to worth equally (like the system wanted), ladies PCS for example should be multiple by 0,9 in SP and 1,8 in FP in a current system. So the difference between 9,25 and 9,75 will worth more in the final scores. But to be fair - all skaters knew that, so all went as equal competitors at Olympics. I hope they will adjust the scoring system a little bit, cause it will help mens field the most i think

Of course she will. Her Mark will never be forgotten. But she's not an Olympic champion. If Med had upped her tech to meet Zagitova's, she would have won.

Well, the difference was around 1.31 points and if Medvedeva had backloaded every single jump she would have gained 1.56 points in BV. Mm...

I'm a bit worried about the reception Zagitova is going to get, and wondering if the Russian fans are going to send her hate mail given she snatched the gold at the very last second.

lol. I wouldn't worry about that. She'll be fine. The girl just won THE ONLY GOLD MEDAL for Russia (or O.A.R.) of this Olympics (so far).

I think the right skater won. I agree with Dick Button. Zagitova to me is mych more artistic. The Karenina program did nothing for me.

That's why it is a fallacy. How dare they hold injuries against skaters. Wholly unethical, no loyalty, self serving. Federations interests above the skaters based on lies, half truths and mathematical odds.

Well the Russian FS Fed is well-known for being pretty messed up...the way they treated Artur Gachinski for example (he could have been so good if he'd got proper support instead of them turning against him like they did!) and the way they treat Sergei Vonorov now. I seem to recall just after Vancouver they even turned against Plushy for a brief period (like seriously Fed?)

So, it's unfortunately not surprising they'd be screwing around the ladies too now that they're on top.

Kaetlyn really surprised me tonight. I was expecting her to fall apart in the free, but she delivered and did very well. Very, very impressive- great skate!

Osmond performance today make me believe she really transform to black swan, the second half is truly impressive in term of performance.

Who can challenge Zag now? She's still young, has some really crazy PCS, crazy 2nd half tech with a super difficult combo. Even with Olympics inflation, she can do 230 in her sleep with any program keeping the same layout. She looks like a real threat to repeat in 2022, unless her body matures some more or barring injury.
