2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

But Buyanova is not a very good coach. Her skaters don't have consistency and usually get kind of boring programs.
If I were Russian Fed, after Eteri, I'd support Panova. I think she looks promising.

Does Panova have any post-novice girls?

ah yes, because three decently-high level skaters is a threat to Eteri... who has Medvedeva, Zagitova, Tsurskaya, Panenkova, Trusova, Kostornaya, Tarakanova, Shcherbakova, and Akatieva...I'm sure she's quaking in fear right now...
There are only three seniors atm.: Medvedeva with broken foot, Tsurskaya with bone disease in her knees and Zagitova who, according to some, is a puberty bomb waiting to explode.
Looks like Buyanova stands a chance.

A puberty bomb waiting to explode? What do you mean?
She looks like she is during the puberty right now and she dealt pretty well with the height and weight gain.

Anyway, I hope that Gubanova will succeed with Buyanova, even though she isn't the best coach when it comes to tech issues and consistency. And these are Gubanova's major problems.

tars knows, he/she meant that critics are quick to dismiss her because they think she's pre-pubescent

I'm very surprised to read that Sima left Plushenko. If she was serious about a comeback then just wanting to live in another city sounds a bit weird, when she progressed so much with Plushenko. But well, hope she's happy.

She was born and grew up in St Petersburg. The first time she moved to Moscow to work with Eteri she had to leave and go back to St Petersburg after a year because of financial issues.
Since she mentioned everyday problems I think it's possible Sima might have run out of money again, on top of not wanting to live all by herself in Moscow.

I don't understand Serafima's choice either. Sounds to me like she wasn't serious about skating. A shame, she looked promising while she was with Plushenko.

Gubanova needed to go the next level, her coach wasn't doing that for her. I hope it works out between her and Buyanova.

WAS is the important word. It doesn’t matter how great one was in the past. It is the present that counts for future assignments.

She had her issues at the worst time with it being the first event of the season too. Oh Lordy why? Obviously that hurt her and she lost out on her second spot but all the other girls had falls and errors too. Kostornaya took second to Dasha in one event then started cracking off 200 plus performances after that. She probably had the least amount of falls of anyone this season too which is crazy enough in it of itself. She has gone clean in like six straight events or something like that.

I just can't believe those tournaments' numbers in "Top prospects" thread.

Figure skating, one of the most expensive disciplines, is basically a mass sport for girls in Russia.

As I understand it, all of Sima's family is in St Petersburg and she's still young, so I guess she misses them, someone also mentioned an injury.

But I'm super bummed out because I really enjoyed her programs with Plushy and their coach-student interaction was so cute!

Best of luck to Sima in the upcoming season though!
