Really? Because supposedly he's super slow compared to other skaters, especially when people see him live. But then again, that was comparing him to the other top men, which aren't present at SOI, so...
I think his "choppy" stroking and gliding is simply his "natural" way of moving across the ice, I mean, there's bound to be different skating styles and he happens to fall on one extreme end of the spectrum (and I imagine that people from the opposite side otoh would look too sluggish and steady, and their movements might not be explosive enough).
So I'd say this is just his innate body language and for some reason this was never addressed and developed properly?
And I think it might have been even fostered further by his very busy novice and junior programs (both in his transitions and step sequences), although maybe they chose those types of programs because they suited him and they tried to use his quickness as a strength, who knows.
