Vincent Zhou

Vincent is featured in the 4CC Promo video with Madison, Zach, Jason and Bradie, and a few cuddly pooches.
I am a new fan of Zach, seeing how naturally affectionate he is with the dogs. :luv17:

yay, thanks for the info on the live streaming of the competition. Vincent will surely enjoy being on the other side as a judge this time!

Cuteskaters Instagram posted some cute pictures of celebrity judges Vincent and Josh from the Aerial Challenge earlier today:

Vincent with Josh, from the back of the judging table, holding up numbers.
The description says Vincent is soft and Josh is only hard on Camden, tough love

Hi, livestoskate, I just posted links to some nice photos from the event from cuteskaters Instagram. The camera set up at the Broadmoor did not show the judges table well. It was at an angle that one could not see Vincent at all where he was seated. You can only see him if he leaned forward all the way, which only happened when he first sat down. After that, we didn't see him at all, I wasn't even able to tell what numbers he held up. The announcement of the scores was muffled out by the music being played in the background. But I did get to see him smile so he certainly had a good time. As mentioned, I wasn't able to tell (see or hear) what number/score he gave out so can't confirm whether he was indeed a "softie" judge or not, as described by cuteskaters

Just added: A clip of the few seconds of the livestream when Vincent got up to wave to the audience. Video quality is low grade, you hear the music in the background that was making it hard for me to distinguish the announcement of the skaters and scores during the livestream.

BTW, the judge seated next to Josh reminds me of actor Brad Garrett

Vincent just posted a message on his Instagram:

Happy Olympic day everyone! Today, we athletes celebrate not just being an Olympian, but what bearing the title means, as well as the responsibilities that come with it. I'm proud to represent my country, and I hope to actualize my dream in 2022.

Very nice photos. :) I was very proud that Josh and Vincent were the stricter judges here. I sometimes wondered what the other judges were looking at.

Hi, I didn't get the scores of the other judges in comparison to theirs due to the distracting background music and skewed camera angle. Did they all give 9's and 10's?

I think (or at least hope) that will naturally happen as Vincent gets older.

Regarding the costume upgrade, Vincent's team can't afford to wait. This upcoming season is the time to start building his reputation as a top skater and a good costume is essential to the overall program and package.

I thought Vincent's costumes this past season looked good. Vera Wang doesn't seem any better than what the other guys wear. I like Vincent's clean and simple costumes with separate pants. Whacked out, overly decorated unitards seem a bit goofy, in my humble opinion.

Hi, livetoskate, I certainly was NOT suggesting Vincent get a Vera Wang treatment (thus my adamant "no" and :noshake:, but maybe I should have capitalized and bolded the NO & used this emoticon instead :palmf: to get the meaning across)! I like his clean, simple costumes, too. What I meant by upgrade is more sophisticated fabrics & design and a more detailed, tailored look. Definitely no overly decorated, frilly, and bling-bling costumes, and no weird, whacked out pieces.

Ice Fantasia sent Vincent an LG Gram laptop. He wrote: "Ice Fantasia show was one of the best I've ever done, and I hope to return again next year!"
Sounds like there is a good chance that the show will continue. Looking forward to seeing him reunite with the rest of the cast, or at least with the BT Ice Boys, in 2019!

Vincent's signature element Quad Lutz Rippon Triple Toe was featured on Simply Skaters Instagram. Is he still going to utilize the Rippon move now that the jump values and GOE scales are changing?

Love this combo! I think the Rippon move will continue to be used on the 3T since it does improve GOE on that. However, it would be nice of him to bust out the Rippon 4Z in at least one competition. Especially against other quad lutzers to one-up them, so to speak - which could help max out the GOE on that element.

He gets a lot of flack for URs, but I think freeskates like his WJC FS or Olympics FS really show his potential - he's only had one senior season after all (in which he attempted the hardest layout, at that), and I'm sure he'll be even stronger over the next quadrennial, and a solid competitor for the US. His ability to do a variety of quads should give him more of an edge against the guys who have fewer quads but will get higher PCS.

Hi, CanadianSkaterGuy, thank you very much for your valuable and constructive feedback! The Ice Network commentator at the US Nationals kept exclaiming and raving about how awesome Vincent's signature jumping pass was. He said it is the hardest element performed in figure skating and that Vincent holds the second highest point total for a single element this year. It was the best single element he has ever seen anyone perform in competition. Thus my question. I have sifted through the ISU Proposals thread and other related ones these past few months and got the impression that Tanos and Rippons will no longer contribute to GOEs? Even the Off-Season News Recap thread states so, though the OP did mention that the information may need to be corrected. I love Vincent’s money jump element and want him to continue doing it as part of his signature move. It would be such a shame if he had to give it up to maximize scores in other combinations. Are you sure the Rippon 3T would improve GOE? Even if the arms overhead would not add to the overall scores, as long as it doesn't detract from the quality of the jump itself, he should keep the move just as a part of his signature.

Yes, it would be absolutely fantastic if he can perform the Rippon 4Lz in competition! :agree: Did you see the one he did during the Ice Fantasia rehearsals? He does the Rippon move so well, unlike the lame, limp, half-raised arms that some of the Russian girls do.

Thanks for acknowledging Vincent's awesome jumping pass. Let's hope he can keep it in his routines.

Vincent will be competing in Skate America and NHK Trophy! :yay:

From his Instagram:

"I couldn't be more honored to say I'll be coming to Skate America and NHK Trophy this year. I'm somewhat at a loss for words--but I'll do my absolute best to make good of these two incredible opportunities. See you in Everett and Hiroshima." ❤️

There should be lots of Domokuns and banners waiting for him in Japan!

Added: Camden is so supportive, he posted the following comment: "Assert your dominance #T"

i am just glad that the US fed decided to keep Vincent in SA instead of send him to other country.
US fed seems to want some rivalry, not just keep both Vincent and Nathan in SA (also to attract audience, maybe that is the real reason:biggrin:). also send their ? lady skaters to Russia.

Vincent's Chinese fan hope NHK organizer could arrange a pair skating of Vincent with Domo Kun at NHK.
That could be ICONIC cute for NHK.

They also hoping for selfies of Vincent and Marin in Skate America (seriously NOT shipping).

It is great to have both Vincent and Nathan skating in SA. The home crowd will be so excited to see our boys competing together. :cheer2:

All Japanese fans have been waiting a long time to greet Vincent with a Domo-kun shower.
They are all getting their Domokuns ready!

The Japanese fan who submitted questions at the San Francisco premier of "Take On Me" already asked about the possibility of Vincent skating with Domokun, so NHK organizers may get the idea from social media. It would certainly be iconic! I hope Akiko's Room interviews him.

Here's a cute artwork of Domokun with Vincent. :)

No word or sneak peek yet of Vincent's new programs, but he is featured in this picture from pair skater TJ Nyman's IG story, with Jacob Simon & Camden Pulkinen.

"The grapes…new song in the making ft. @govincentzhou."
TJ has some hip hop/rap tunes on Soundcloud. Does that mean Vincent is going to rap? :eeking:

Actually, I would love to see Vincent skate to something groovy with hip hop flavor such as "2Beats", by my favorite Suisse harmonica player Gregoire Maret. Even Satoko mentioned that she would like to try hip hop.

Don't keep us waiting too long for the previews!

Vincent posted 2 very heartfelt and eloquent messages on the passing of Denis.

From Twitter

"I clearly recall the intensity in his eyes as he warmed up for the 2018 Olympics. I remember being inspired by his breathtaking performances back when I was young. And even before that, I remember watching 2009 LA Worlds in person, feeling the thunderous roar of the crowd giving the 15 year old boy a standing ovation. I was studying his gorgeous skating just last night with no knowledge of what had happened. Denis, your path has not been easy, and though I did not get the chance to know you personally, I feel heavily the loss of an artist, leader, and human being. Thank you for all you have contributed to our precious world. May your soul rest in peace."

From Instagram, with a video of "SOS d'un Terrien" from 2017 SOI China

"The most unbelievable things happen in the blink of an eye. I have been inspired by you for a long time, since I first saw your awe-inspiring performance in person at 2009 Worlds, when you were just 15 and barely known. Since then, you went on to become a World and Olympic medalist who inspired scores of young skaters like me. Just last night I was studying your gorgeous skating with no knowledge of what had happened. Denis, you are a true artist and leader. We love you and will hold your legacy in esteem and remembrance forever. May your soul rest in peace."

:sad4:RIP, Denis! Your fighting spirit, wonderful soul and beautiful skating will live on in our hearts!

Vincent's poetry insta account, in remembrance of Denis, posted the lyrics of SOS

Why do I live,
Why do I die?
Why do I laugh,
Why do I cry?

This is the S.O.S.
Of an earthling in distress:

I've never had my feet on the ground
I'd much rather be a bird
I don't belong in my skin
I'd like to see the world upside down
What if it's more beautiful from above?

I've always confused life
With some kind of comic strip
I can feel a metamorphosis
I can feel something
Drawing me way up high!

In the grand lottery of the universe
I didn't draw the right numbers
I don't belong in my skin
My feet were never on the ground
I'd much rather be a bird
I don't belong in my skin
I'd like to see the world upside down
I'd much rather be a bird.

Back to sleep, dear child.

"They embody an uncanny reflection of his being, and they are lyrics I have felt deep within myself as well."

"....and though I did not get the chance to know you personally, ..."

Vincent must have felt this performance deeply, he posted the video and lyrics on two of social media accounts.

eta, my 2cents, people have independent thoughts/dreams are more than often is the minority, NOT the mainstream. more than often would be a "distressed earthling". including tailblazers, visionaries, creators, dreamers, artists as well as your average Joes.

I'm late but I was so happy to see Vincent will be going to SA and NHK. I know skating at home will mean a lot to him, and also that he has some dedicated fans in Japan who I'm sure is excited to see him there! Now I wish I still lived in Japan :hap85: but I'll brave the time differences for both (I'm in Europe lol) to watch on tv/online for him of course.

What happened to Denis has upset me so badly, and I saw that Vincent posted a thoughtful tribute <3.
