2018-19 U.S. Men’s figure skating

Emmanuel Savary is much higher score wise this summer. And how can you not want this guy to make it to Skate America after all these years?

Actually I would be thrilled with Jimmy as well. I really do love Tim, but I kinda hope someone new gets SA this year and I think Sean, Jimmy and Emmanuel are all great choices!

That was so sweet.....I'll be happy no matter who goes but, I would love to see Emmanuel get a chance at such a big event. Good luck to all..

Yes, I am a fan of Emmanuel :luv17: as well.
USFS (so far) has not included him on this season's ISP list.
Emmanuel is skating in the non-international Philadelphia comp (as he did last year). New this year is that he made a coaching change to Tom Z.
I have no idea what any of that "means" in terms of Emmanuel's goals for this season??? But I imagine that he and TZ have an ambitious four-year plan. Wishing them the best. :yay:

I am rooting for Emmanuel to be selected for SA as well. But I'd guess he would need to compete somewhere and outscore Sean. I wouldn't want Sean to miss out just because of his age or anything. He's a wonderful performer and good on him for being such a terrific performer and example for the sport. (Dolensky, OTOH, I feel has had a couple GPs already so I am rooting for the other guys. Fan of underdogs here!).

Emmanuel is skating at PSC, which is the non-international comp. in Philly.

I thought he might. He did Philadelphia last year. So essentially I'm rooting for him to earn the spot. (And for the judges to acknowledge it if he does).

If I remember correctly, he used to train at either Wilmington or Univ of Delaware so Phily is his only stomping ground. I am keeping my fingers crossed he does well. I always find him fun to watch.

So as it stands

Emmanuel Savary struggled in Philly and did not improve on his best this summer.

Jimmy Ma scored 67.32 so he needs 156.51 to beat Sean's score last week. I think this would be a new personal best.
Timothy Dolensky scored 68.26 so he needs 155.57 to beat Sean's score. That is close to his international best.

The top five guys in Philly were about a point apart... tomorrow is going to be a heck of a skate!

I do think the highest of Jimmy, Sean and Tim will likely get the SA spot. Jimmy might have a slight advantage due to his placement at nationals/SP success. But mostly I think may the best man win.

Philadelphia International total scores:
Andrew Torgashev 206.41 (138.74 FS)
Jimmy Ma 198.88 (131.56 FS)
Timothy Dolensky 198.20 (129.94 FS)

Men summer comp best scores (Nationals placement)
Sean Rabbitt 223.83 Glacier Falls (14th)
Emmanuel Savary 210.28 Skate Dallas (18th)
Timothy Dolensky 209.29 Skate Detroit (7th)
Andrew Torgashev 206.41 Philadelphia (13th)
Camden Pulkinen 206.00 Broadmoor (1st -Junior)
Jimmy Ma 198.88 Philadelphia (11th)
Daniel Kulenkamp 188.10 Glacier Falls (17th)
Ryan Dunk 187.50 Chesapeake (4th - Junior)
Tomoki Hiwatashi 173.38 Skate Milwaukee (12th)
Patrick Rupp 172.35 Glacier Falls (15th in 2015 Nationals)
Jordan Moeller 164.36 Broadmoor (15th)
Sebastian Payannet 163.93 Glacier Falls (19th)
Ben Jalovick 154.91 Broadmoor (16th)
Kevin Shum 149.64 U.S. Collegiates (21st)

Stats from :https://unseenskaters.wordpress.com

As StitchMonkey noted, the Skate America TBD is likely between Sean, Timothy and Jimmy. They could also opt to give Alexander Johnson (8th at nationals; assigned to NHK Trophy) a second GP with the TBD spot.

In other news, we have seen Nathan Chen's new SP & FS on The Ice.

At this point, we're waiting to see Vincent Zhou, Jason Brown, Alexei Krasnozhon. The later two are coming off recent injury (although Vincent also had some injury at season's end IIRC), hence not seeing them in any summer competitions. Jason has not announced his FS music while Vincent has not announced music for either of his programs (Though he hinted “new things” to come on a IG post last week, so I’m guessing we’ll hear some news soon! https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl9wWwNBBKf/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1lowqfe25nqhp)

Vincent just announced his sp is choreographed by Lori Nichols and is to exogenesis: symphony 1 part 3 redemption.

The clips look beautiful and his edge quality looks sublime!

Tomoki Hiwatashi scored 218.82 at the DuPage Open, which moves his score up to second on the list above.

And Jordan Moeller scored 184.19 at the same competition.

This is surprisingly good. Wow.

Right? I feel like there are a lot of people who have strong opinions about Vincent and I understand why... If he had another year to develop and mature I think it would be a different story last season. Nevertheless, he does have the skating skills, musicality, and tech to compete with the rest of the men... his issue has been packaging and putting it together. I am SO excited to see him potentially use this SP as a vehicle to put him as one of the men to watch over this next quadrennial.
