Evgenia Medvedeva

Finally I was able to watch all the skates not just on my phone though a dying internet connection with next to no sound! Phew. I honestly had a to laugh during Zhenya's skate, seeing her and Brian's reaction in the end and knowing what was going on. And also mad respect to Zhenya, because I wasn't able to tell that she was improvising on the spot. Of course, the program looked visibly empty for a while there, but if they told me they just deliberately chose to present a raw version of it, I would've believed it.

Also, the step sequence as the Libertango hits is the bomb. Now hoping she memorises the rest of it

By the way, he didn’t say that Eteri told her to go have babies. He said Brian told him that Evgenia told him that Eteri said she was done after the Olympics. That’s what he said.

He also confirmed the “go have babies” story.

I don't find it so shocking. Eteri gave an interview last season in which she said that at 18 the body slows down and prepares for motherhood. It's her philosophy and she could have advised Zhenya to stop given that her rink was getting too crowded.

That said, I think she really cared for Zhenya, at least when she was winning.

On another topic, I've been replaying the end of Zhenya's lp and I still find it amazing the incredible the ovation she got from her home crowd after the bashing she's received during the summer. I hope this gives her strength for the season.

The bashing on the internet is nothing, just a few losers. I knew she still received support in Russia. Real skating fans don't camp on sports.ru to live nasty comments on teenage girls who are bringing honor to their country.

About the he said, she said, yikes! Idk what to believe but if Eteri really said that, i'm really worried for all the girls she has now.

I find her forgetting the choreo so funny. She must have freaked out and just decided to follow the music on the ice and try to make it look like a program then :laugh2: I'm not worried about her, she will be ready for competition as she always was. Her saying she was so grateful for the support she got there means to me that she was worried about it. She seems to engage on social media a lot so she might know of those people who called her a traitor :rolleye: for leaving to Canada. I'm glad she at least knows now that her people are still there for her even when she messes up a little bit.

Oh my god, she forgot the choreo! I know she was probably freaking out inside but I find this pretty funny tbh. Just... so unlike Zhenya yet it shows that she‘s indeed got emotions and nerves. We always call her our girl of steel but seriously, this showed that she isn‘t. She‘s an exceptionally mentally strong young woman but she‘s not made of steel. And actually, I think she did pretty well considering the fact that she practically had to improvise on the spot. To land almost all the jumps after forgetting the choreo and wanting to put another toe after the 3S-3T just shows her strength again. I hope she will be fine because she‘s by far my favourite lady but I firmly believe she will. She‘s strong. She‘s determined. Yes, she isn‘t always perfect and she makes mistakes. But she has a fine, clever head on those shoulders. And Brian and David seem to really support her. I really love their interactions because Zhenya looks so happy and comfortable already around them. I‘m hoping for a long career for her but for now I‘ll just focusing on hoping she has a good season, haha. Small steps at a time and everything.

Zhenya preparing for the skate and singing to herself, as usual:

Fight mode on

On a serious note, though, I hope that having test skates in front of a huge sold out arena is a one time post-Olympic-season thing. It's obviously not good for the skaters, especially the ones who're the very reason the arena was sold out in the first place. It's too much expectations being placed on athletes who're not even close to their top form and shouldn't be yet at this time of the season. No wonder even Zhenya had such an untypical blackout and my heart broke a little for how obviously worked up Alina was about her falls.

Orser: It wasn't her best skate.
Evgenia: I never say say it in the interviews, but I'm always nervous, sometimes more, sometimes less. Today was a very nervous day for me.
Orser: We've received positive feedback and we are looking ahead. Working next to Russian coaches? I only cared about working with her *points at Evgenia*. Our plans are to keep skating regardless of who's next to us. I'll do everything I can for Evgenia.
Orser: And her lutz is getting better.
Evgenia: Even if it's not very good this season, it's still better than its best version last year.
Orser: It requires some time, but Evgenia works a lot on that jump. Can you expect two lutzes in FS? Yes, it's quite possible.

I'm sorry guys, after reading some threads today I can only see the word (f)lutz. I think I'm going to have nightmares with it :laugh2:

I don't understand why people kept letting Eteri's words coming to affect Medvedeva. (if it's truly what Eteri said)
Moreover, what I also don't understand is why Eteri would want Medvedeva to perform badly, because what Med does will almost always have a part that's from Eteri.
Of course, I am not familiar with Russian sporting culture, but it sounds pretty strange to me :scratch2:

It's just hundred time repeated hoax that some people are willing to believe. During Olympics many believed that Eteri was bad to Alina, now (often the same people) believe she was bad on Zhenya. It's really funny how people are willing to believe things that fit their point of view so easily. "I was told that he was told that she was told that someone else told..." :laugh2:

OMG! I‘m screaming! :laugh2:

I have the strong urge to use this as an avatar just because it‘s so funny but I won‘t... some people might feel offended. [emoji23]

I think it‘s best if we keep Eteri out of this. I love Brian‘s and Zhenya‘s interactions and we can praise him without putting Eteri down. It‘s not necessary and Zhenya understands that she got a lot of what she knows today from Eteri and never said a bad word about her. So, I think we should take an example from her.
Actually, I wasn't sure that Eteri wasn't holding back a smile. Look at her eyes...

One of the things that really struck me in Zhenya's interviews was how homesick she is.

She's been putting on a positive attitude, and there is clearly a great affection and coaching relationship developing at TCC, but the culture shock runs deep...and coming back to Russia at this point likely threw her off the new stability she was finding.

I really admire her down-to-earth honesty in the interviews.

Second, she is clearly aware of the negative media storm. When she was speaking in the interview, she talked about being a skater training in Canada, but she looks forward to competing as a skater 'za Ros-si-ya'.

'From Russia', spoken slowly and with great emphasis. As if to say 'there', you have it from me.

We all know that Eteri is great at developing young talent and let’s leave it at that. If she wants to be petty about Evgenia, let her be...Evgenia knew what she was doing when she left and TCC is fiercely protective of her, that’s all we can ask for.

The two things that have stood out to me in her interviews:
1) Crying during her first day of training because she was so happy even though she felt so behind in skating skills class
2) she stated that she came terms with the fact that she needed to gain weight to be healthy. I feel like this is such a frank admission from a young figure skater, and even though the translation is a bit fuzzy (I interpreted it as saying she allowed herself to eat a burger and some chocolate but it’s not an everyday thing, and also just fine with enjoying watermelon).

Both things indicate that she feels like she made the right choice and is enjoying herself despite the challenges. Granted it’s only been less than two months but I feel relief that she is in such a nurturing environment

Can someone out there translate Zhenya’s Instagram from earlier today?

Here:
"A great big thank you to my dear fans. You can't imagine how much confidence in myself you are giving me. Honestly, I was absolutely shocked by the amount of banners, words of support from the stands and just your love. You are my eternal engine". Then she listed a few gifts she had been given and wrote "I love you"
