2018 Nebelhorn Trophy Ladies Free Skate

Alina did great and her costume is gorgeous. She's giving me the unbeatable can't make a mistake vibe again. Good for her.

Alina Zagitova

Counter into 2A, clean and smooth. 3Lz+3T, clean and both with arms aloft. 3S also with two arms on top. Not a lot of height in 2A but completed. Strong camel spin and donut position. Good 3Lz+3Lo (3Lo maybe <). 3F+2T+2Lo good. Good 3F. A little shaky with the combo spin but good positions. Interesting series of steps in the sequence. Nice illusions in last spin.

As usual, her technical brilliance is remarkable. A little shaky getting out the free leg on a few occasions but the ride out is good. I think the program shows that she's indeed still 16. It's not as mature of an interpretation of Carmen that we're used to seeing and I think she was able to accent the music better in last year's program than this one. It's not yet there, perhaps because of complexity of the transitions, but this is a work in progress.

Score: 158.50

Hmm. Alina seemed a bit slow and tentative today? Still getting used to the new program, maybe?

I quite liked it. I liked the music, especially in the back half after Habanera was done. But there wasn't a lot to perform in the choreography; could use some more expression.

I initially thought that Carmen was as big a mistake for Alina as it was for Elizabet, but once the Habanera part is done, I think it suits her reasonably well. I think it will only get better as she gets more used to it, and without the need to focus on the backloaded jumps so much, there's no reason Alina shouldn't get more expressive and performative as the season goes on.

Really impressive skate! Loved it much more than the SP. The music cuts here are much better and her interpretation changes with the music. Beautiful. There were some interesting choreographical moments that I really liked. Technically brilliant, ready for this season!

Sloppy movements and body positions. Very unfinished and unpolished. Incredibly rushed and overwrought and zero sense of character.

At least yesterday I thought the program looked polished, pretty, and like Alina had really improved in terms of posture, extension, and movement. This LP gives me the absolute opposite impression.

The program is not nad but I would take out like 1/3 of the clutter. And I think that she interprets the music (i mean she hears the accents etc) but not the theme. I don't think Carmen is a good idea for her, but maybe she will prove me wrong later.

Considering it is the beginning of the season, and that she grew something between 5 and 7 cm since the Olympics, i think she is doing very well so far.

Alina is such a talented young girl but I really didn’t like that program at all and I kind of found her to be really overscored today. The technical elements, while impressive, weren’t at her usual level at all and unfortunately, I don’t think the program suits her at all...

Yeah, I have no problem being optimistic. It's early yet, I think this program is only going to get better.

I think she grew a bunch this year, so she's having to adjust to that. Doing brilliantly.
