His stamina isn't quite there yet, but that's alright. I loved the Free and look forward to how it's going to evolve!

He resumed jump training just a month ago, so this FS result was not unexpected. He needs to be stay healthy to climb up from here.

I love FS more than SP. It's so unique and original. At the same time, I hate this year's new rule, 4 min FS for men, which is too short. I was actually surprised the program had so many details in the choreography. In this new rule, skaters and choreographers can do little other than trying to gain points, and everyone will end up doing same things.

I just watched his FS. Beautiful choreography in this program which fits Dai so well. I see a masterpiece in the works!

Jumps were not good at all due to his lack of training because of his injury.

Knowing Dai he probably feels bad that he could not perform better for his audience and I hope he does
not get discouraged.

I don't care about the scores so much I am just happy I have two new wonderful new
programs from Dai to watch over and over.

Congrats Dai on your third place finish!

I really like the program. The choreo is interesting and when he is able to get more mileage on it I think it will be great! So just to make sure, being top 3 means he will advance to nationals, right?

All of the ten skaters can go to Western Sectionals. The entries of Western and Eastern Sectionals will be announced soon, and I assume there will be 28 senior men at Western Sectionals and top 11 of them can advance to Nationals.

28 is the total quota from the three regionals together to advance to Western Sectionals. But from the acutal numbers of entries at regionals, together there were only 15 skaters competed (all together from Chu-kyochu/Chubu/Kinki). In other words, in the upcoming Western Sectionals, there will be about 16 to 17 skaters entering the competition and top 11 of them will advance to Nationals

Oh, thanks for the correction. I forgot to check the actual entries at Regionals.

Dai skating to Rachmaninov is almost too good to be true :hap85: the jumps will get there, but the way he moves across the ice and performs, it's like he never left

I'm in minority (as always) when it comes to costumes. But I really really like his SP costume. The FS one is just too bland for his normal tradition. He usually lines up new ones for National so who knows....

Both programmes are tailored to maximized his artistry. The jumps, spins and stamina will likely come eventually. His jumps weren't too bad just too many pops but after a very long break that's kinda expected.

Seeing him skates again is heavenly. He is the best to feed your soul amidst the new quads wars.

With even the young top skaters struggling to fit everything into 4 min and maintain stamina, I would say Daisuke did very well.

His skating and choreo is the kind you can watch again and again with no music. It is refreshing to see, so many skaters have cut out steps and choreo for the jumps and Dai has shown you don’t have to do that.

Of course his programs are not designed to win on international level (=not crammed with quads), but still, it is beautiful and we need that in figure skating.

Thank you, sayaksa-san! :thank:
One disasterous skate in jump-wise maybe, but I loved this Free!!!:love::love:
I watched his SP on TV last night, was surprised to see just how much he was nervous the whole time from the tip of his hair all the way down to toes. In his interview afterward, he said he was deadly exhausted, didn't know at all what would happen or what to expect in the free tomorrow... Thus I kind of predicted something like this would be coming tbh.

The opening pose is beautiful, step sq and choreo sq are cool, overall it's so Dai ; many thanks to Benoit! OTOH, tempo changes a lot and every entry into jumps is unique, a back-spiral into Loop, etc, must be very hard for him under such pressure to deliver. I read an article that Benoit was there, too. Did he comment anything yet? I am so interested in!

Kazuki Tomono about Dai: "As a skater, I cannot even compete with him yet. He is much better. I'd like to train more so I can become more like him"

Echoing everyone on here saying how much I enjoy the LP! Definitely unique, interesting choreography and great step sequence ;he skated with the music so well. I love the costume, hoping to see up close and in detail!

Thanks for all the links and updates, sayaka1030. Just finished watching the FP several times on a larger screen and all I could say was WOW! The step sequence and arm movements are sublime! I love the step sequence around the 3 1/2 minute mark where he starts flying across the ice to the climaxing music and vocals, if only it lasted longer! Wait until he gets acclimated to the jumps and polish up the program. Even with all the jump errors, it feels really substantial and love the unique and edgy quality that is so suited to Dai. Thanks, Benoit, for reaching out to him!

Here is a very nice fan artwork of both of Dai's costumes.
Those gloves are unusually short, aren't they? If only the SP costume looked just a bit nicer like the drawing, lol.
