Evgenia Medvedeva

Guys, don‘t get too excited. We all know and love our amazing Zhenya but I really don‘t think she‘s trying or even training 4S at the moment. It‘s too early and she said Brian will only let her jump it when she‘s fully restored. I guess it is the same thing she has on her other jumps: she has more muscles now so she gets more height and sometimes she can‘t seem to control it. Her 3S was definitely huge, so maybe she‘s trying to gain more height in general to make it easier should she start training 4S. But for now I don‘t think she‘s going for it, even in training. Too risky and quads take lots of time.

Love it!!!!

Now all she has to do is manage her nerves. I hope knowing that she is much more prepared compared to ACI helps her.

Still in such a short period of time, the improvementS are evident! The future is bright for our girl 😀

I agree, we have just seen she can skate her FS clean (well, apart from that 3Lz and the missing spins but she didn’t even try them) and with power. Now all she has to do is stay calm and take one element at a time like they say. Then she‘ll do well. I‘m relieved because this is the Zhenya we know and love. She just has to bring it to the competition. We‘ll see.

Maybe I’m imagining it, but does anyone else think that Zhenya more like a dancer now. Not super thin like during the Olympics but more muscle definition & maybe a little more volume in her chest? I think she looks wonderfully healthy.

https://youtu.be/j9aSJKaFpjg We finally have video of Zhenya from TV Asahi
My Japanese isn't great, but I'll try to globally translate:

0:00 - 0:36: the bit that was translated and posted on twitter, she decided she wanted to continue for the next 4 years, split from her old coach, etc. "I want to get better and better and change my own life."
0:37 - 0:55: "and the present", explaining she moved to Toronto.
0:55 - 1:10: "You cut your hair, right?" "Right after I came to Canada, without knowing where to go, I stood in my room and immediately thought 'I want to cut my hair!', so I went to the hair dresser and cut it."
1:11 - 2:24: "While it's unusual for Russia's top athlete to distances themselves and train in a foreign country, the 18 year old decided to return to the 'competition life' [I think?]. The person guiding her is Yuzuru Hanyu and Yuna Kim's coach, who raised gold medalists, Brian Orser. Previously in Russia, she spent a lot of time training jumps. But here in Canada:" [clip of them working on stroking exercises, explaining they focus on skating skills more than before].
2:25 - 2:40: Brian's English bit.
2:41 - 2:50: "Even if it takes time, I want to reach my goals step by step. I learn the most here."
2:51 - 3:18: "Furthermore, after 'expression training': [clip of Zhenya at the gym]. At the gym, she works with a specialist trainer on stamina and strength to prevent injuries."
3:19 - 3:29: "To once again take the queen's seat/throne [], Medvedeva takes a new step forward"
3:30 - end: "This season, I want this new me to show the upper limit of skating"

Yes, I agree as well. She shows a normal amount of growth for a healthy 18-year-old. I find all the comments about her weight on the SCI practice chat to be really disturbing. She looks healthy and fit and not so frail as she did at the Olympics. And the increased muscle tone seems to be making it much easier for her to jump high.

Those comments were truly awful. I have never seen people talk like that about young girls. I couldn‘t believe it and was so glad when I found out how to turn them off.

These two guys we all know which two I mean are everywhere calling Evgenia fat and a pig and other awful names It is unbelievable how hateful some people can be. Thank God I have Eurosports now and do not have to watch those YouTube streams anymore except for the practice streams.

These people are nothing but trolls. They’re the reason ISU disabled the comments on their official livestreams.

Those two guys must be blind.
