Google has translated Voronov as Ravens so many times I've started using it as my nickname for him

LOL!!! If you were wondering where that comes from, "voron" means raven/crow in Russian, and "voronov" would be the plural genitive form. So, the most common meaning would be " ravens' ", the plural possessive of "raven".

I finally looked up The Greatest Showman to understand why all the men are dressing like British Royal Guards with extra bling. I had no idea The Greatest Showman was a film and that Hugh Jackman was in it. (Is he still a thing? Asking for a friend.)

Funnily enough, whenever I hear "The Greatest Show" and see the costume, I always think of dance troupe Diversity, and in particular their leader, Ashley Banjo.

Diversity won the 2009 series of "Britain's Got Talent" (the year Susan Boyle was on it), and every year since they have been brought back as guest performers at some stage in the series. And this year, they opened up the first of the Live shows with this:

That was the first time I ever heard "The Greatest Show". And with the number of times I have heard it since in figure skating competitions, I reckon I will soon know it off by heart!

But, as for the film, I know it is about a circus, but that is about all I know about it. I couldn't have even told you who was in it. (Although, to be fair, that is normal for me. I am hopeless when it comes to knowing who is in films).

I would like to see it some time.

Oh, this made my day! I do love seeing what talent shows produces in other nations. (Eurovision... I had a whole academic paper I wanted to write analyzing European integration through Eurovision. [emoji23])

Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one who has no ability to keep track of celebrities. I can’t watch films regardless, so it’s no surprise I have no idea what’s going on, but I vaguely remember Hugh Jackman being a Big Deal around a decade or so ago? He’s still a thing? Good for him! (Maybe? Long careers are rare?)

I was watching the Skate Canada Free Dance this morning (yes, I am still catching up ), and I heard a strange noise from outside. And I thought "it's too early in the morning for squibs to be going off" (there were loads going off last night, what with it being Hallowe'en). So, I put on channel 9 (the channel the camera is on), and there standing on the front step without a care in the world was...

...a chicken!!! :shocked:

My parents were in a different room watching the breakfast news while having a cup of tea. So I ran down and told them to change over to channel 9, and they couldn't believe it!

The chicken then started wandering around the front yard, and I went out and took a few photos of it from the door. I didn't go too far outside, as it was frosty. And then came back inside because it was cold, and watched it on the TV. And it wandered around for a good 20 minutes, before casually walking down the driveway, across the road and into the garden of the house opposite.

So, now we can answer the age-old question of "why did the chicken cross the road?" Because we saw it! It was to go into Catherine and Stephen's garden! :agree:

One of the neighbours does keep chickens for eggs, so we assume that it is one of his that has escaped. But, I don't know where it is now. Whether it has been caught or whether it is still wandering around somewhere.

But, it was a bit of unexpected entertainment this morning.

Update on the chicken.

My Dad was talking to the guy down the road that we thought the chicken belonged to, and he was saying that he doesn't actually keep chickens any more.

It turns out that the couple who live opposite us are now keeping chickens.

So, why did the chicken cross the road? To go home!

Nope. But there are LOADS of cats roaming about. And I am not a big fan of cats. Suffice to say, my Auntie's cat scratched me when I was a youngster.

Not a big fan of dogs either, for that matter. Again, when I was a youngster, I was going up and down the avenue on my bicycle and a neighbour's dog came running out onto the road, and scared me. I crashed into the kerb and fell off my bike and hurt myself.

But I would LOVE it if we had foxes. They are so cute and cuddly!

Apparantly, there used to be foxes and rabbits around here when my parents first moved in a few years before I was born. But they disappeared when there were houses built behind us. In recent years, the most exotic wildlife we have had has been grey squirrels. There were at least 3 of them. Oh, it was great watching them performing acrobatics at the bird feeders.

But then a couple of years ago, one particular cat started chasing after them. And one day when we came home, we found clumps of grey fur in the garden. And we haven't seen the squirrels since...

...but then a few weeks ago, I was lying on the sofa watching TV (I think it was skating), and saw movement on the back fence. And I recognised the movement instantly - it was a squirrel!!! And my Mum and I were absolutely delighted to see it.

Haven't seen it since. But, it is good to know that, even if they are not coming into our garden any more, there are still squirrels about.

Spent most of Friday anxiously tracking a fire that was moving on a line towards my parents' place, hearing the roar of the ridiculous wind-gusts we got, having a migraine, then being woken several times last night by the banging of the wind on the metal shutters on my balcony. I'm wiped already and it's not even lunch time on Saturday.

Yeah, it was downgraded to Advice overnight. Approx 7km out from the city. The wind appears to have died down today and they have favourable conditions, so they don't think it's any danger to homes.

Confession: I love volunteering my time and photography to our local animal shelter... but this time of year (and at the end of spring) I absolutely hate crappy pet owners. They all want to have kittens and puppies at Christmas so they dump their older animals on the shelter door stop. Most of these animals are not well trained, and the owners give stupid reasons for giving them up. Typically it's "well... they bit/peed on/tore up..." the shelter can only go with what's reported... but while working with these animals we never see any of the behavior supposedly for the reason... typical behavior problems is they don't know basic commands, or aren't fixed so they have certain undesirable traits like marking territory and getting very hormonal/territorial LOL

Just really ticked me off today to see so many sad older animals in kennels wondering why they're there and not with the family that promised to love them.
