Rika Kihira

One thing I must say is how much mentally stronger Rika has gotten compared to last season. You can really see that her coach and her worked on that 😊. We now have a happy and confident Rika this season 😍

That's exactly what i thought. The way she carried the rest of the performance after the fall, i'm impressed. The rest of her elements were clean as water. She kept a smile throughout the program and got her levels this time  i am happy about her PCS score going higher from Ondrej Nepela. It's a good sign. The 3 girls above her are seriously so close, a medal is definitely achievable. I am not too worried for the FS which is weird & surprising because i was close to throwing up before her short program! I almost threw my laptop across the room when she fell :laugh2: but i smiled when i saw how she recovered. I don't know if nerves was the issue here, her 3A was just so off-axis!

wait: she got lvl 3 on stsq and first spin

Shame about fall on 3A :( But OK, that lutz was SO good; height and distance (both the best I've seen from her outside her 3A), such a cool exit, beautiful rippon, DAMN. I adore her skating, the way she skates and moves is just lovely. Her free is probably my favorite this season, I hope she's going to nail her jumps.

If she hadn't fallen on her 3A and got a similar score to Liza on 3A, she'd be third by a point or so. Given her FS performance this year, she'd be a favourite to win it all. Now we have to hope she skates the FS cleanly and Liza falls.

For Rika to make GPF, I reckon she has to get a silver here. Bronze is almost assured tbh, provided her FS doesn't go majorly wrong.

I do not understand Rika coach at all. No way should she do all those triple axles before the short. Tiring the girl out before the short. I questioned if she is best for Rika since we know who is her priority.

The coach knows what she is doing. 3As are always a risk with landing it. Look at the men's division they constantly fall on their 3 Axels even if they can jump it clean often times. Rika improved so much from last season, last season she would have bombed her SP after such a fall due to nerves this season she keeps it together. I do not think that her coach prefers one more than the other. She supports everyone equally.

Her lutz really is beautiful, so effortless and light! her entry & exit are gorgeous too! Her free is by far my favorite lady program this season so i'm very excited to see it again tomorrow

If she hadn't fallen, i think her pcs could be higher too! 32 with a fall is good for a GP debut. I'm still confident that she can make it on the podium.

I think you're overeacting a bit. Falling on a 3A is nothing to be ashamed of. Have you seen the men's event that just ended? So many falls on 3A, that's how risky that jump is. I don't think her coach shows preferential treatment at all? Have you seen how much Rika has improved since last season? Not only on the quality of her jumps but on her overall skating skills and performance. Landing a 3A in competition is more difficult than in practice, which is why many land them in practice but it never makes it to competition. We know she can land them, she has landed 2, one with a 3T at Ondrej Nepela, also landed 3 of them in competition last week-end. I think Hamada is leading her on the right path.

Disagree about Hamada

I do not agree that Hamada. I have heard Dick Button say many times that the practice should not be over kill with the hardest jumps that leaving the jump on the practice field. I am sorry but it makes no sense to jump that jump that much in practice. And the coach has came out and stated that Rika is too young to win that it should be a senior woman. She is worst than Eteri. Yes Eteri showed perference but she never came out and said what Hamada said. I hope Riki next season Riki move on to another coach.

wow that's a lot of thoughts  lmao i don't even know what to say to this :laugh2:. i don't know, coaches having favorites is no big deal to me as long as they make sure to give all their skaters the weapons they need and can handle to have a chance at victory. I personally did not think Hamada's interview was that bad, Rika does have a lot to learn to be as polished or consistent as Satoko and i too would bet on Satoko rather than her even tho Rika is my favorite. I think it's pretty obvious Hamada is doing a good job with Rika, seriously just look at the improvements. It's also so damn early in the season to make judgements. Her first senior competition hasn't even ended yet, you already want her to change coach

Hi I respect your opinion here. I followed Rika in juniors. I was hoping for a break through here. We will have to agree to disagree about Hamada. I do respect everyone right to have a different opinion. I hope for the best for Rika in the long program.

I have no issue with having different opinions, i'm not trying to shut you up, you can share your opinion and we can discuss even if we don't agree.
I have followed Rika through juniors too, and that's why i know she's prone to mistakes. What did you expect? To see her suddenly become perfectly consistent as she moves to senior? I try to stay positive and wish to see her clean every time, I do want to see her do well too, but i also always keep in mind that she is not known for being consistent and she has a risky layout so it is always scary to see her take the ice. You never know if she's going to deliver a gorgeous skate or crumble under pressure. Honestly, not having a perfect skate at her first senior competition (still there's the FS tomorrow) is not something to be worried about, in my opinion.
