Jason Brown

I am soooo happy for him! He is such a beautiful skater

Do anyone of you have any link to his FS and SP performance with commentaries from Euro sport, NBC or CBC? Unfortunately I cannot access the videos on their site even when I used Hola. :sad4: Thank you in advance.

I would love to see the CBC version, too!

I’m still over the moon

But the loop, the loop!!!! He spent at least a year popping that stupid jump! And now it has that beautiful exit!

By the way, do you realize that if he’d gotten the level, no < and skated clean no pops, even with 2A, he would have scored about 172-73 with no extra GOE? Meaning his total score would have been close to 270? And he didn’t get as good GOE in this program (rightly, due to errors) as he did in SP?

I am interested to see the strategy for Golden Spin (and who goes with him). :)

I had estimated at least 10 points that he gave up with the double axel, the double lutz and the level 3 step sequence. If they can keep him calm and help him focus and take it one element at a time, the S&G program has a lot of potential even without the quad. Once he gets the quad, it's going to be a whole different ball game!

This might be one of the happiest threads on the whole forum right now,and with good reason! Congratulations to Jason. He looked so proud when he skated out to receive his medal!

Ha ha - I actually calculated it. In total, his mistakes cost 14.29 points in BV and he got -1.29 GOE on the 3A<2T2Lo. Had he just executed all his elements as planned (including 2A) he would have scored 270.62 points and finished less than a point behind Nathan. If he’d also gotten just 0 GOE on the 3A combo, he would have squeaked by Nathan to win. But he didn’t, and kudos to Nathan for a great comeback in the FS - he has shown amazing strength in balancing school with skating so far this season, and to pull the win off here with finals looming was pretty incredible.

I am really interested to see what the team’s strategy is for Jason at Golden Spin - will it be back to the 4S or will he just try to do the IdeF program clean? I also wonder if he’s gonna be spoofed by trying to follow up that brilliant SP. I guess we’ll see!

Me too! Since the penultimate goal is podium at Nationals, one assumes that Golden Spin is to keep the momentum going. I would expect them to work on continuing the precision, consistency and focus that was evident in the SP and try to get that into the Free. If taking the Quad stress away allows him to skate cleaner and better, that might be the way to go for this season at least through Nationals. They will want his 3A as sharp and reliable as possible. I think they'll keep working on his quads, but the decision to put it in the program or not will depend on whether Jason can get over the anxiety that he clearly has about landing it.

Brian won't be able to be with him, since he'll be with Cha at GPF. So that might inform their strategy as well. We'll see!

Nathan is pretty darn amazing!

Okay, so I wanted to break down my actual thought processes when Jason did his SP, because not all of it made the PBP (I just can't type that fast).

(program starts) - French cameraman doing us all a dirty by a) panning away from Jason's face as he starts and b) not doing a full-body shot as he starts
(triple flip) - uggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh it's so niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice
(he skates towards the triple axel) come on come on come on come on just go for it you got it
(triple axel) ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yup
(flying sit) i feel like we could get you some prettier sit positions. but level 4!
(combo spin) jason i swear to god if you get a V again i'm gonna strangle you just hold your positions
(TES: 27-ish)
(triple lutz triple toe) ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my heart
(TES: rockets to 40) HOLY BLEEP *lightning fast calculation of one spin + steps left* HOLY BLEEP HE'S GOING OVER 50
(change camel) HIT YOUR PLUS FIVES JUDGES THIS IS WHAT THEY WERE MADE FOR
(TES: jumps to 45) OH HE'S GOING OVER FIFTY HOLY WOW BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP *cackles* omg how will the forum respond to jason having 50 TES YAAAS
(step sequence) GET IT GET IT GET IT GET IT GET IT GET IT cameraman you suck GET IT GET IT
(he stops) OH MY BLEEPING BLEEP whoops it's 2am bleep bleep bleep bleep yes yes yes yes yes yes yes slay it nail it work it win all the things *wriggling excitedly on couch*

Nice, karne!

I applaud you for watching in real time, cause half the time I was not looking cause I was so nervous LOL.

During the live I was looking at his TES and chanting like come on reach 70-ish and he is good.
And when I saw 72 something I was like oh my gosh god job my boy.

I know, late to the party, but seeing Jason live, in all his magnificent splendour, was my second personal highlight of the whole experience (first being ofc Piper and Paul all things connected). He might be the most open, enthusiastic and positive figure I've ever encountered in my skating perspective - he personally and his work, what he puts on ice really strives for the connection, contact and as he keeps on giving his skating to the people, they are coming back so strong for him with support.

First thing I noticed seeing him even at practice is how prominent presence, carriage he has while on ice - but it is not like a 'cold', distant one, but very drawing, approachable kind; he has an incredible refinement over his movement in general, the way he just skates around the rink sets him apart really from other skaters I'd say: the lines, posture, finishing, fluidity in transitioning. All very 'innate' and instinctive, natural to his attitude in my opinion, I've never seen him like 'forcing' a move or faking an emotion/affection in the performance. I am really glad that his natural talent in moving and expressing emotions at the same time shone so brightly in Grenoble and I was there to witness it.

I do think that the way SP went was the most sophisticated and stylish way to show a figurative middle finger to all naysayers and Debbie Downers - it was a perfect illustration how rewarding towards quality the new system could be, that providing an exquisite quality over every single element and component of skating can get a praise and recognition. People were mesmerized in the arena, captivated by how he moved and how he expressed the music, how amazingly he was going with the rhythm, every single note/change in the music was perfectly accentuated by his body: line, gesture, small or bigger move. And all his signature motions and flexibility just sat so naturally within choreography, music and general concept of a program, I never felt a 'gimmick' vibe watching it - it is a testament of how Jason progressed/progresses in new environment, but with respect to his natural abilities, skills and that personal/signature style of performance he already achieved before the move. And did he progress - his overall look (not only shorter hair), demeanour and composure while performing are much more mature and confident from a deeper place than previously; SP is still quite 'show-y' and in Jason's vein, but there is newfound subdued sensuality and intimacy in how he expresses things, how amazingly he builds the tension along with the music through movement, he just does not throw himself anymore all inside the piece with exuberance, donning emotions more deliberately and with more sophistication factor over wholesome than just a program. As I wrote in IdF thread, there's just a feeling of so much satisfaction and easiness watching Jason doing his thing, effortlessly and with such musicality - he has that sleek 'snap' to his movement and gesture, how he operates his hands in expressing music within choreography, how he uses his lines to accentuate the edge/to make a certain shape for the music. He just simply transported me to his space for that 3 minutes and I've got totally seduced by the whole package. and the score - I mean, if someone can do quads this smooth AND present such fantastic skating skills in every element/throughout whole choreography, adding so much charisma and personal touch over it, 'owning' the space and insert signature - suit yourself and get 120+; someone's exquisiteness and superb quality is not an excuse for complaint if other did not execute/perform to their expectations, everything should be rewarded accordingly and this time (o irony), it was. I can equally respect and value a fantastic skating without quads and a highly technically-packed effort with multiple quads executed, nothing rocket science about that.

FS may have been less successful in terms of execution, but the level of growth and effort put into expression, balance between telling a story/engaging audience and having the substance executed was enough for me to expect great things coming up. I like that 'mellow' vibe of the music, a vintage notion to it that meets Jason's energy and youthfulness - it really results with gaining more maturity and consciousness over different aspects of Jason's skating I think and it starts to shows effects on the ice. He, in opposite to Evgenia, was not suppose to start everything from scratch - he just needed a new impulse in the right direction, a bit of a challenge to what he achieved to this date and elevating it to another level, BUT all step by step, with pace that will accumulate and sustain the growth in Jason and his skating persona. And from seeing him live, his interactions with Tracy and Brian, reaction to the audience he understood the process, the length and effort of it and tries to facilitate everything he learned after the change with his approach and attitude.

Me and tabsy got signatures from him and his enthusiasm and humble acceptance over our positivity towards him and his performances gave us the best energy ever:). If you have any specific questions about Jason, his programs, performances, practices etc. just let me know, I'll try to post my best impression:)

I was watching in real time. My eyes never left that screen. When he nailed that last jump and had only the step sequence and spin/s left, I started shaking and crying. I saw those levels (I totally missed the GOEs!) and the TES and knew he had done it. And then when they announced the score, the scream was heard round the world! It was my birthday, and all I wanted for my birthday was a great skate from Jason and I got it!

Thank you for that! I was at SCI and saw the SP implode, when I knew that he could do it so well. I was so happy and excited to see him do this and wish that I had been there. What I did notice was that he is calmer in the warmups and actually his posture has changed from his pre-TCC days. It was always distinctive and graceful. But it took me a little while to find him in the crowd easily because his line has changed. In one of the interviews recently, Jason said they were working on his head placement and that's what is different. He holds his head differently and it improved his already very good posture and presence on the ice. That and the stroking have been the main changes that they've made. His charisma on the ice is still strong, but quieter. And he's losing that frantic vibe that crept into his skating in the last couple of years before he moved to TCCC.

I'm so happy that you got his signature. I've been fortunate to meet him face to face twice. In Chicago he spontaneously hugged me. He is truly the nicest person on the planet. He loves interacting with the crowd. They couldn't get him off the ice after the medal ceremony in Chicago in 2016. It was hilarious. Shoma started it and Jason and Adam jumped in and they spent lots of time with their fans. But Jason was the last to leave and he was so sorry to go and leave anyone unhugged and unsigned.

Jason is why I am a skating fan now. I've watched skating at the Olympics back to Peggy Fleming and went to ice shows, but frankly got bored with the whole business in the Michelle Kwan/Evan Lysacek years. I wasn't connecting with any of them (except for Belbin and Agosto!) But I happened to watch Nationals in 2014 and saw Jason and I was hooked. Jason is skating for me. And through him I have come to love other skaters as well. But it's Jason's skating that epitomizes to me what skating could and should be.

WooHoo! Yes it is! Congrats to Jason for such a great performance! Love seeing him skating so well and looking so happy. We just got our last house guest to the airport and though I've been checking in online and have watched a couple of videos, I have a long way to go to catch up with the past few days. Thanks for posting so much!

This could be me! Only I never really watched Peggy except for Grenoble, so my fandom mostly started with Janet Lynn. I got bored for a while and only reconnected thanks to Jason in 2014. :)

Someone posted a link to Jason's press conference comments from IntheLoop a few pages back, but I just watched the video of the news conference on Facebook and it's worth checking out. He makes a few more comments about the jumps, and I just love listening to him. He comes across as so mature and focused, and not bored, which is rather rare at these things. https://www.facebook.com/sportsdeglace/videos/733178680376983/

ETA: Someone commented on his latest tweet that they heard he was going to London for a bit. Wonder what that's about....

So that was me who sent the tweet, some fans talked to him after IdF and he said he and his parents were making a stop in London b/c he's never been, then heading back to Toronto. He'll be in Toronto for 5 days before flying back out to Zagreb.

Thanks for the info! It's nice he can have some down time with his parents, but geez, 5 days in Toronto? Seems hardly worth it. I feel jet-lagged just thinking about it. :)
