2019 US Nationals Senior Ladies Free Skate

I have a really hard time getting into Starr's skating but then I remember that she was exhilarating in person last year in San Jose. Plus, no matter what, I am rooting for her because representation is so darn important!

okay I'm out now, but ohhh I hope for Alysa to have a clean skate! do your best and you will win :)

although I'd be happy if Bradie won and Alysa was second, too

This felt very labored and heavy at times. Either change the music or the choreography. Something is not connecting.

Starr has such natural personality on the ice, this program skated cleanly would be dynamite.

I hope Starr uses this season as motivation. She has so many good qualities.

Something is just not clicking for Starr this year -- both programs had a forced, gritted-teeth quality to them that should not be present so late in the season. Very disappointing because she's one of my favorites.

This year has clearly been hard for Starr. I think a previous poster said is right that this should've been a short not a long. It's too easy to run out of gas.

What was Starr’s placement at nationals last year?

I still can’t believe she was the “whip my hair” little girl who went viral in like 2011. :cheer:

Starr is going through a sophomore slump. Plus her coach did make some really bad decisions this year. The programs, not doing enough summer comps, adding in a 3A before it's consistent, not focusing on consistency. It's really frustrating.

If she's driven competitor, she's use this all as a learning year and use it as fuel for next year.

and that's a shame because both her programs seem very "her", but maybe she's just not experienced/mature enough to pull them off right now. i'd love if she can revisit these a couple of years from now...

I'm having a great time tonight watching but it's so disappointing and sad compared to last year. I was in person last year at all of the free skates and the gala and even though I live 15 minutes away, I stayed at the same hotel as the skaters (and yes I sat in the lobby/bar and enjoyed watching everyone after the competition. But my claim to fame was being in the elevator with Ashley and Adam right after Adam skated. Bonus, I saw Ashley at the bar roughly 15 minutes later getting two glasses of wine for Adam!). All of that, plus the Olympic year, plus everyone skating so well makes this Nationals kind of a bummer.

With that said, the young skaters, particularly in this event, are giving me so much hope! It's nice to see much better technique overall from the skaters. I don't mind that they can't handle their nerves yet because for so many of them, this is their senior debut. Giving me hope for Beijing!
