2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Could anyone explain to me how qualification for younger and elder age nationals works? I know that the recent Moscow championships were a qualifier, but what I'm confused about is how some of them qualify to compete in both younger and elder age nationals like Kanysheva did last year and like Tarakanova did a while ago. Does anyone know if the top 6 at the elder age Moscow qualifier will be competing at both nationals?

The age restriction minimum 17. On their launch page for Universiade, ISU has this description,
The Universiade is the international sports competitions among students, holding under the aegis of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Competitions are held every two years, and students from the age of 17 to 25 years and graduates who have received an academic degree or a diploma in the year preceding the competition are allowed to participate in competitions.

For some peculiar reason, they then follow with three photographs
1 Mariya Dimitrieva, 2 Anastasiya Gulyakova, 3 Mariya Dimitrieva

Mariya is 11 years old

:palmf:

Lol

But still, Gulyakova deserved that spot more than Masha.

Now i understand why she said there is no stress and pressure in her group, she gets the spots regardless of results.

Russia has only four female single skaters eligible for this year's Universiade: Elizaveta, Evgenia, Stanislava and Maria. You can debate who is the most deserving out of this four only, as the other girls are still at school / not at university / not currently competing / over the age of 25 (Leonova). This leaves us with only Stanislava and Maria after Elizaveta and Evgenia declined.

The answer lies in the cauldron :reye:

OMG. I never in a million years thought I'd say this about a 12yo's FS program but her Short Program is boarder line a masterpiece. It is definitely special, not just the music and choreo either. She performs the heck out of it.

I just don't get into the pre-juniors anymore because so many factors could change and I get disappointed in loss of potential if they quit, but I may have to rethink my decision. Lol

Just in case you haven't seen it yet, here is a link to her short. Eteri says it's her favorite SP.

I really like her short program.

Not sure how many ways people can explain that Gulyakova isn’t eligible for this particular competition and therefore can’t possibly “deserve” a spot. She was born August of 2002. At sixteen, she’s too young.

So, no, Gulyakova’s results don’t matter in this instance because she does not meet the basic criteria for elibigilty.

My bad, i thought Talalaykina and Gulyakova were 17.

In most countries 17 is too young to attend University. I say this as someone who was at university as a 17 year old and had a friend who started at 16. It’s possible but very unusual.

I was listed to on of Moscow Universities at 17 but begun my studies few months later being 18 already. Some people were younger, in their 17.

Yeah for most students that start at 17, it's because their birthday is later in the year.

I started at 17 because I skipped a year, but it's not that common. And I definitely don't think it would be common among elite athletes

What do you think the chances of a Russian podium sweep are now that Alena is out of the picture and Ksenia's in?

Hmmm that's quite positive. I hope it comes true ^_^
I was thinking that 1-2 is 100%, but the 3rd, hmmmm, something like 65%+

If she skates clean or like she did at junior nationals Sinitsyna will 100% be on the podium. And she could be higher than bronze if one of the others (probably more likely Scherbakova) makes a mistake. I’m worried about her lack of experience however. I really hope she does well

If Sasha wins (which is now more likely than not now that Alena withdrew), will she be only second lady to win back to back Junior Worlds titles? (I think Radionova was the first) What a way to enter the seniors!

I still hope that Anna wins, though. Not because I wouldn‘t be happy for Sasha but rather because she already has a Worlds Junior gold medal... and Anna is missing a JGPF medal. I think a JW gold would help her make an even bigger splash in seniors. I‘m still sad for Alena, though. But it‘s a great chance for Kseniia. I hope we‘ll see a Russian sweep.
