Evgenia Medvedeva

Funny thing: TAT today was..I don't know, somewhat lukewarm on Zhenya. Of course, she didn't say anything bad about her, just was far, far from her usual self when commentating Zhenya's skating. But guys ftom another channel, (one in particular, who was rather harsh before during GP, and not only about skating, also about her decision, her new programmes etc.), they were rooting for her so much.

I noticed that too, actually. Although I wouldn't say lukewarm exactly, but very measured in her commentary and even a bit critical. Do you have a video with commentary from the other guy? Would be interesting to hear. For what it's worth though, when the camera showed Tracy and Brian, one of her co-commentators said that TAT was also doing some of the choreo movements with Zhenya during the skate

Guys, don't be upset about today. She has won worlds twice, of course we want her to medal, but after such a year, the most important thing is that she delivers two cleanish programs to prove that she is still competitive for the following years.
I didn't watch the sp and when I came here I thought reading the comments that she was in tenth place but I then realized she had a season best and was in fourth so...Not that bad.

I didn't find it yet, it was Russian Eurosport, and I watched it on TV. To my surprise, they were really complementing and it was obvious that they were worrying.

Do you think TAT wanted to be careful to sound impartial after the selection process debacle?

It‘s actually really really really good if we put things in perspective and look at the season she‘s had! But I guess it‘s just that a podium finish (or at least a small medal) would have been such a satisfaction after what she‘s gone through this year. I‘m beyond happy for what she‘s achieved today, though and very proud. I hope she can skate similarily in the FS.

And also: Level FOUR on all elements!! :yahoo:

I think we needed a bit of time to get over that initial frustration that it was so close. But in the end, what Zhenya did today was amazing. Well done, Zhenya, well done!

On a side note. Zhenya looked so freaking cute and pretty with her hair and makeup. Those rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes were everything.

Perhaps. But like I said, I got the impression that she was at her retirement party. Just what I thought. Maybe she really decided to tone it down, which is a good thing.

I laughed out loud when they came up and I'm still smiling over them

Zhenya did great, maybe not the perfect skate she wanted but it puts her in good spot in the free. As long as Russia keeps its spots everyone should be happy :agree:

Not everyone, a lot of voices that Elizaveta would be second today. But reasonable people should be happy with results from all 3 girls.

Is she doing something different with her makeup now? She looks so different to me now versus 2017-2018. I know that she added muscle weight too.

Is first in the last group for FP a good position for Zhenya? Or is that too early? Or less pressure

I think it‘s a bit early... right after the warm-up, I don‘t know... I would have preferred a starting position like today. And judges are more likely to give lower scores to those who skate earlier, though she did make the final group, so I‘m not sure that‘s something to worry about.

Yeah it seems early to me too...she should go after Eunsoo and Mariah. But maybe being warmed up right before is a good thing? I don’t know if it is or not.

And I was worried about the scoring but for SP, Kaori scored her season’s best and she skated first in the last group.

Zhenya has to rely on the mistakes of others to medal, let alone win, while being utterly clean herself. She's not in a bad position to medal I think, but a win is a looooooong way to go...

Also, the field at Euros was significantly easier than it is here, Sofia being 9th isn't that big of a surprise, everyone who beat her besides Zhenya and Alina is not European.

Too early I think. But she will be warmed up enough to really go for it.

That short was a victory for Evgenia, more than anything she is proving to herself that she is still a great skater and great athlete. She had confidence today that had been missing earlier in the year. I think skating a solid long with another SB would be a win, irregardless of medals.

Normally I think going first is not good, but I think it will work out well for her. No time to think, and you are warmed up. She skated second at Boston and won.
