Evgenia Medvedeva

I agree with you. I think it will be very difficult for Evgenia go to Beijing 2022. If she would compete for any other country I have no doubt that she would go. But we already know that she only competes for Russia and by 2022 they will be more juniors competing in senior.

That is the reason that women in Russia retire so early. It's impossible to stay in the elite of figure skating when constantly appear new girls one better than the other. For the country it's fantastic but for the girls' sporting career it's horrible. They must retire very young.

ISU needs to reward countries that dominated discipline more than they do. Three spots is obviously not enough for Russia. It needs to be a more merit-based system that they have like the Grand Prix circuit. Canada for instance lost two of their three spots in ladies singles. One of those spots should have gone to the best country Russia and another one could have gone to a country trying to develop their figure skating program.

Zhenya should keep going just because she loves it so much I can still perform at a high level. Liza doing well at 21 or 22 years old will be an inspiration for a lot of the Russian girls.

It‘s close to impossible that she‘ll make it to Beijing. But then again, people have managed things that seemed impossible countless of times. You just have to have enough nerve. And even if she’d end up failing, at least she tried and didn‘t let anybody or anything stop her from trying to reach that goal. No matter how unrealistic it seemed.

We all know how tough figure skating in Russia is. Evgenia once was in the position herself, she was the one who surpassed the Olympic stars, youth and fearlessness on her side. But she‘s still here and she‘ll keep fighting so we should just applaud her for that.

Can she make it to Beijing? I don‘t know. My gut tells me: “No way.“ But that‘s what it‘s all about, right? Dream crazier and stuff. Idk. I‘m just happy she keeps competing and doesn‘t give up. Maybe she‘ll be the exception to the rule. Who knows... we can only cheer her on. And for now, there‘s still a lot of time. Step-by-step.

Next stop: New season & test skates. What do you think how her layout will look like? Will she put a 3Lz in her SP? And what colour are her costumes going to be? If one program s choreographed by Averbukh, will she work with Olga again for one, too?

I would be devastated if she didn't make it to Beijing since this is her goal after all. But then again I don't know how she will be able to keep up with all these young girls. :-/

It's one competition at a time. Just focus on each step. If she worries about 3 years from now, she'll feel overwhelmed.
I have total faith in her.

And I will enjoy each and every skate. :)

Same here.

What I love about her is that she never counts herself out. Jason said in that interview they did together after Worlds that Evgenia never took herself out of the running; the entire time, she trained as if she was going to Worlds, even though she did not know whether she would be picked for the team. That is such a great attitude - and we all know what happened after :)

Agree completely. I also agree about the step at a time mindset. It‘s important. But at the same time, I sometimes can‘t help thinking about those Olympics. Happens.

Also, I‘ve just had a look at Challengers. ACI is only a few days after test skates. I wonder whether she‘ll still do it? Or maybe she‘ll go for a Challenger in Europe again?

Maybe Lombardia?

Unless she's not required to do the test skates. Can a skater skip the test skates?

At the same time, the test skates happen earlier, and frankly, I am so eager to see her new programs . Do you remember the excitement last season? To this day, I still watch OCS from the test skates.

I want Lombardia, she never skated there.

I want Nebelhorn. I could see her then

I'm not a technician in any means but to my untrained eye I have the feeling that getting a 3A would be actually far more achievable than a 4S, as funny as it sounds. I've just rewatched her WC performances - I know her 2A in the free were shaky, one of them was also called under, but the 2A from the SP was pretty much the standard from her trainings prior to the competition. Not only the axel looked effortless and beautiful but it seems that there's an extra cushion and if she generates more power from her legs, she could achieve another revolution. This is something that I could see in her loop too but not in the salchow.

Also, I have been wondering is there any chance that she improves her BV for the free by adding a 3S-3Lo and a 3S-3T? And maybe changing the 3F-2T-2T to 3F-2T-2Lo?

I think if she can stabilize her 3F+3T this summer so she can add that as a second 3-3 combo. Then for her 3-jump combo, here are the options:

Combo BV
3S+3T+2T 10.78
3F+1eu+3S 10.10
3S-1eu-3T 9.00
3F+2T+2Lo 8.30
3F+2T+2T 7.90

I think at the very least, she has to do away with the 3F+2T+2T, if she wants to enhance her BV next season.

She said in an interview after Worlds that she had tried to learn 3A but she couldn't so her coaches told that she try to learn 4S. However, she said she would see later. Therefore, I think that she would try to learn 3A. Who knows!
