I agree with you. I think it will be very difficult for Evgenia go to Beijing 2022. If she would compete for any other country I have no doubt that she would go. But we already know that she only competes for Russia and by 2022 they will be more juniors competing in senior.
That is the reason that women in Russia retire so early. It's impossible to stay in the elite of figure skating when constantly appear new girls one better than the other. For the country it's fantastic but for the girls' sporting career it's horrible. They must retire very young.
ISU needs to reward countries that dominated discipline more than they do. Three spots is obviously not enough for Russia. It needs to be a more merit-based system that they have like the Grand Prix circuit. Canada for instance lost two of their three spots in ladies singles. One of those spots should have gone to the best country Russia and another one could have gone to a country trying to develop their figure skating program.
Zhenya should keep going just because she loves it so much I can still perform at a high level. Liza doing well at 21 or 22 years old will be an inspiration for a lot of the Russian girls.
