American Idol - Top 24

Dee - ok well I accidently popped in this thread after the show had ended on the East Coast... so I knew it was going to be one of the supposed 'front runners'

that and lets face it, vote for the worst is doing it's job very well this season... and I think even more people are jumping on just to see it continue. It's bringing a new sense of excitement (much like William Hung in season 3... Hung Mania is back in a new form: taking down the show)...

personally if the 'scandal' was just ignored by all in teh media I think the 'fun' would go away and it could get bck to normal lol

anyway back on Gina... I knew she was going when they did the three groups of three... it was either Gina or Blake... when they said Sanjaya's group was safe, I knew Gina was a goner

the big surprise for me was that Haley and not Phil was in the bottom two...

I would be sad for Gina, because some of the other people are definitely worse, but she really just wasn't that good.

Only 5 people even matter - Melinda, Jordin, Blake, Chris, and Lakisha. Of those, the first 3 are the only ones that I can see as serious artistis with careers after the show ends.

Toni, I guess when I saw the group of 3, I thought either Phil or Haley, never did I think Gina, not for right now anyhow. It was just a shocker for me. When they panned the others, it was a look of shock!!

Well, I actually posted yesterday morning that I thought it was gonna be either Phil or Gina, so I'm not surprised. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED, but not surprised, especially given who was in the bottom 3 with her. The fact that Stephanie, Brandon, and now Gina, are all gone while Haley and Phil and Captain Hairdo are still around, really irks me. (To say nothing of the fact that Haley got in the top 12 over Sabrina Sloan to begin with.).

That being said; no, Gina was not very good Tuesday night and she was in my personal bottom 2 with Phil. I think she was the one who most done in by the week's theme. She rather reminds me of (ironically, the also pink-haired) Amy Adams from Season -- 3??; talented in a particular quirky way but probably needed an extra week or two to really hit some kind of a stride; I don't think Gina found the groove she was capable of getting into. And I have a feeling that the real irony here is that NEXT week is gonna turn out to be a theme that would be fabulous for her and had she still been around, she would have been one of the best of the night; I seem to recall that happening to Amy; Amy was done in by Country Night and whatever the next week was, she would have been GREAT at.

Another irony here is SONG CHOICE. Last night might serve as a lesson to future contestants, as in "Think about it. If it turns out you go home on Wednesday night, do you REALLY want to stand here and sing THAT?" Personally, if I were in that position and had to sing, of all things, "Smile though your heart is breaking", while finding it rather appropriate, I'm not sure I'd be able to get through the thing. LaToya London I always thought had the best "singout"; it was the week she did "Don't Rain On My Parade" and after she got eliminated, it was kind of a subtle way of saying, "You picked Jasmine Trias over ME? Bite me, y'all!!"

And WHY, by the way, didn't Stephanie, the most talented of all those eliminated so far, get an on-air "sing-out?". They told her you're outa here, oops we gotta go see you next week, bye, and that was IT, whereas even ANTONELLA got to torture us one more time before she left..... Go figure.

Brandon also didn't get a full blown sing out...

you'd think after 6 seasons they'd figure it out, but with it being a half and hour every week this season I don't think Ryan has the timing down...

he enjoys -too much- dragging the results out lol and then has to speed up when they realize they had one too many commercial breaks

I think that's the biggest problem with their time... too many commercials

Brandon at least got to START on the air, which is more than Stephanie did.

Ryan DOES seem to be getting just a little too fond of himself. I rather suspect that that is one ego that probably requires its own dressing room; the fact that he and Simon actually fit in the same auditorium is, I think, a miracle of physics.

I don't think Ryan's any more egotistical than he was even in the very first season... I am getting tired of his 'flirting' (or whatever they're calling it) with Simon this season

I wonder if they were told to do that to take the focus off of Paula

ITA. I'm getting tired of that back-and-forth thing they have going on while the poor contestant (and tho Ryan and Simon may not wish to believe this, the show IS about the CONTESTANTS, guys!!) that Ryan is supposed to be talking to is standing there not knowing what is going on, whether to duck, or just go off the stage till they get done with whatever it is they've got going on. Wasn't it Melinda who was the lucky beneficiary of the infamous "closet" conversation a few weeks ago? She looked like she had just stepped into Bizarro World.

As for Paula, she doesn't seem to be as loopy since the competition started as she was during the auditions. My theory on her is that she has overactive brain neurons to begin with, and you throw in lack of sleep and having to sit through literally thousands of people who really and truly cannot sing, it's gonna make you a bit punchy.

I dunno... she's still acting weird when she's on other shows... I think it's just because they give her as little camera time as possible...

that and Sanjaya steals her thunder

I've read that Paula has "RSD". My MIL has RSD. She has some powerful pain killers for it. It's a horrid problem...pain that never goes away and it only gets worse. My MIL takes the lowest dosage possible to get by. However, once she took the higher dose because she was having a tooth problem on top of the RSD and both doc and dentist said take an extra pain killer. You DO NOT want to know what my MIL had to say when she called me at 6:30am, looped to the hilt on those pain killers!!!
All I'm saying is if Paula really does have RSD and is on pain killers for it, it could have something to do with the way she acts.

I can't really fault anyone who has to be on painkillers for what they might say or do. Even on a low dose. I have such a bad reaction to them, but *I* think I'm ok, so I end up doing something goofy like calling people and leaving them crazy voicemails. ;) So if that's Paula's "issue", I feel bad for her, but she should know her own tolerance level and not be on tv if that's the case. Lord knows what I'd sound like if I tried it.

So she should choose between the painkillers or the career??  IMO, it's not like it's some sort of huge PROBLEM (I mean for the show; for her it may be an entirely different story), more like a really vaguely amusing sidebar to the whole proceedings; it's not like she's lurching to her feet after everyone's number and saying things like "Ya look creepy...................ya need ta.....ta.....ta......GROW SOME HAIR......and.....like....hit some damn notes once in a while....." or "Ya must have a real hard time buyin' a bra for them things" or the like. She IS functioning. And as I said, it's not nearly as bad now as it was during the auditions. She does make some loopy comments (I think comparing Phil to Frank Sinatra is all the proof you need of THAT), but I think she's just that kinda girl. Plus she's in the position of having to be "the nice one" and sometimes it can be pretty dang hard to be that, given some of the material she's had to work with.

[I would also like to state by referring to it as a "vaguely amusing sidebar", I certainly do not mean to make light of any problem she may have. At least it counteracts Simon's acidity.]

I never said she needed to choose. I said she should know her tolerance level. That means that if she knows the pain meds are making her as loopy as she already is, she should be aware of it and IF IT GETS WORSE, then yes, she might have to choose to give up the tv gig. Or not. I've seen worse trainwrecks than her on tv. *shrugs*

But it was Paula whose feathers got ruffled over the whole "loopy news broadcast" thing. She was upset about what people thought of her....

I didn't say anything *whistles*

Paula annoys me... meds or not...

I think that Paula is a lovely, beautiful, kind-hearted person. I think she is just wonderful.

So - predictions for tonight's theme?
Jennifer Lopez (she's declared she's no longer J-Lo) is guest coaching tonight so....?

So I'm expecting a few train wrecks! As Ms. Lopez's latest is in Spanish, I'm guessing the theme is Latin.
Should be good for a few laughs.
