At Rostelecom Cup, the Austrian and Japan Judge have Zhenya first overall(SP+FS).

Seeing the GP statistics makes me both sad and relieved. Sad because had she not gotten the hardest events, she would have qualified for the final. And in 5th place even! So crazy that based on total scores she would have been fifth but because of medals she’s only 10th... But I‘m still relieved somehow because I know that making GPF would likely have resulted in her finishing off the podium anyway, so it‘s better for her to have more time to work on lutz/quad.

Well, Austrians (and Japanese) know good skating, when they see it.

Thank you for sharing this. Evgenia is so eloquent in her interviews, and really very charming. I love her choice of a hero for the ages - she is very appreciative of her mother, and it reminds me that she isn't doing this alone. She has her family's support and love, which must help tremendously.

Oooh, I like data and tables. Thanks for sharing this too! On the one hand, it does show how just one rough skate in a deep field can bury you in the placings, but it is so impressive that Zhenya put together such high scores despite that SP at Skate Canada. I am now, of course, running through 'what-ifs' in my head, but, just as Fluture says, this way she has more training time, which may be more valuable in the long run. Also, as someone who knows next to nothing about figure skating, it strikes me, looking at the scores, that the judges are prepared to reward clean, quality performances pretty well, which allows the more experienced skaters to remain in touch with our marvellous new seniors. I think that's a very good sign that they can still be competitive, while also being motivation for them to go for the harder technical elements.
