Evgenia Medvedeva

Ugh. Feel so bad for Zhenya. Skating in new boots will not be easy. Hope they are broken in a little. However, if I'm being honest I am a little happy this happened in a year where it seemed nearly impossible for her to get on the podium anyways because of the bv of other skaters. Prove us wrong, Zhenya!

The new technologies used by Edea mean the break-in period required for our skates is much shorter than for old fashioned boots.
Instead of blisters and plasters Edea allows skaters to do what they love doing – skating – with one training session normally enough to get the skates to peak performance.
The memory effect of the padding ensures the boot hugs the foot outline and trains the tongue to sit in the most comfortable position almost immediately.
Because Edea use modern materials the boots have an elasticity and flexibility that old skates couldn’t offer and give the skater a better range of movement."

(Yes, this is me trying not to panic)

Even Edea skates take a few weeks to break into them.

I know, it‘s obvious it‘s not going to happen until tomorrow. This is just a horrible position to be in, nothing more needs to be said. Makes me sad. She‘d have deserved a good competition, now it‘s stressful no matter what happens. And RusNats is already drama and pressure and anxiety enough, there really was no need for more of that...

This is just so typical! Of all the things that could have happened. :(

Just gonna have to hope for the best, the girl is a fighter so hopefully she doesn't let it get to her (even then no matter how much you ignore it, it's going to be bloody hard regardless)

On a Russian language thread it was said she needs to walk, jump and run in them all through the night to get that memory foam or whatever adjusted to her feet.

If her feet aren't that much out of the ordinary shape for a brand new boot (where did she even get to buy a pair, it is not that Edea's top models are available in her precise size at some concession stand? and you need a master to fit the blades properly?), perhaps having new boots, stiff and hard as they may be, might give more support?

OMG my poor nerves..... everything seems to go wrong. :(

Exactly. And I was so hoping for it to go differently this year. She went into Nationals with a brilliant last competition, unlike last year, her SB is really high and she has two clean back to back skates, unlike last year. Everything seemed to be poised to go at least a bit better. And now something like this happens? And yes, honestly, this is a disaster. Zhenya is a fighter for sure but at this Nationals she needed her concentration and focus at 100%, no distractions. And this is probably one of the biggest distractions ever. I‘m sure she‘ll give it her very best shot despite this but it happened and it will, in some way or another, affect her. And that just makes me sad. She really doesn‘t deserve this.

It took Zhenya two days!! to travel to RusNats. I hope she is not completely exhausted from that

The boot issue might not be a disaster because in reading about the skates you can adjust to them very quickly. But the traveling to Nationals may be taking a toll of some sort physically on evgenia. This is two years in a row there doing Nationals so far from the big cities. Why did they stop doing them in Moscow and St Petersburg and Sochi? Zhenya is so experienced she can handle it but for the average person this would make us very nervous.

I think with the books it’s less about adjustment and more about getting used to skating in new boots, but I’m not sure.

They look like Edeas but can be these Risports too
