Evgenia Medvedeva

I think with the books it’s less about adjustment and more about getting used to skating in new boots, but I’m not sure.

For instance with me breaking in new shoes or new sneakers takes a couple days at least and I don't know if Zhenya has that time. And I'm pretty sure new skates for figure skaters are stiffer and tougher to break in sneakers are. The most important aspect of all of this is that this does not father evgenia mentally. She already has enough pressure to deal with it anyway she doesn't need new skates playing mind games with her. I would think she's too experienced and mature for that but we're only human after all.

They look like Edeas but can be these Risports too

I don’t think she would risk an entire different type of shoe... I hope. Getting new ones is hard enough [emoji32]

If she wore them in training today, she seemed to jump well in them, was moving nicely through her ankle over her step sequence which would be the issue. They’ll be pros at breaking boots in so I’m more interested to see how she is tomorrow morning. There’s so much they can do, as long as boots are a similar weight, the blades are in the right position, they should be fine. These things have happened before to skaters and they made it work
Good luck, Zhenya!

Why don't skaters have an additional pair of boots for such a case?

agreed. You think of Roger Federer goes into it at his match without a backup pair of sneakers just in case the damages the pair he is wearing? zhenya may have had this issue before I bet she knows how to handle it.

Someone on medvedevanation said they heard (yes, obviously the source is questionable) that Zhenya already came with a new pair of boots but they broke today. That’s why she has new-new boots now. If that’s true... I don’t know what to say. I mean... what are the odds..:(

Guys, every pair of boots and every set of blades is different. They feel different, and you may make tiny little adjustments- your balance, where you are on your blades for a jump takeoff or a spin, etc. - in each pair. So it could really throw you off to alternate two pairs, for example. Having a spare pair isn’t like bringing an extra pair of walking shoes.

Guys, let’s do as last season and post [emoji3531] in her last photo in Instagram, or maybe even [emoji960][emoji3531], what do you think?

It takes some time to break in new boots. You can't jump in them as well because they are stiff. I really hope she finds a way to overcome this. How unfortunate

In an interview Alexei Urmanov said that the way Edeas are built they are very easy to break in and it should not take long for her to break them in. Hope this is true [emoji3531][emoji120]

No worries, guys! Zhenya is very happy about her starting number

Love these photos - thank you for sharing the links! Evgenia and Tina do seem to get on very well. And her outfit for the draw is lovely. She has a fantastic sense of style, and always presents herself so well.

Oh dear. That is bound to hurt. I'm sure she will acquit herself well, though - she's broken in boots before, multiple times over her skating career, she'll know what to do to adjust to these new ones. I wouldn't necessarily put credence in the rumour that she brought new boots with her and those were the ones that broke - it makes me think of the wild rumours that Aliona Kostornaya wasn't going to participate in Nationals, which apparently started with a throwaway comment about an issue with her leg, and rapidly developed a life of their own. What we do know right now is that she has to skate on new boots; we don't know when she got them, or how broken in they are.

So, for me, there is no point in worrying. Zhenya will do what she needs to do, and manage her new boots, skate her programmes, and nurse any blisters that result. She will skate to the best of her ability, given the circumstances, as she always does, and I hope most of all to see her smiling at the end of her performances, satisfied with herself. That's what I'm focusing on - thinking happy, positive thoughts, and looking forward to her magical skating. I'll bite my nails to the quick during her programmes, but right now, I believe she can handle this situation, and will do her best.

That's what I am confused about. Why the sudden change of boots. Shouldn't she have at least taken her piano ones with her. . Just in case? Would probably have helped in this situation
Skaters usually do not take backups with them as I posted in the RLT. It happened before that skaters destroyed their boots during events and had to buy new ones because they have no backups. It takes time to break a boot in properly, skaters do not switch their skates like we do shoes, they keep one pair for a few months.

Yes but she has not really had months with her new skates did she? And I think everyone should at least have a backup, and her piano boots would have been something she was at least still familiar with. . By the way what happenend to her boots the one with the swarowski crystals on? We never heard of them again after she changed them last year
