Evgenia Medvedeva

Yes but she has not really had months with her new skates did she? And I think everyone should at least have a backup, and her piano boots would have been something she was at least still familiar with. . By the way what happenend to her boots the one with the swarowski crystals on? We never heard of them again after she changed them last year
Boots can break even if they are new. And we do not know if the boots she took with her and which broke were completely new, it is gossip at this point and was not mentioned by RusFed in their statement nor by Russian Media. As I said, it is not common to take two pairs of boots with one to a competition, if skaters feel like their skates may break soon they switch their boots weeks before a competition just to be save. Obviously Zhenya did not expect her boots to break at Nationals.

Am I the only person feeling a bit nervous about her having to get new boots right before Nationals?

Well, a bit nervous might just be the understatement of the year, at least for me. I try to take it calmly and think what will be will be because otherwise I‘d be panicking outright. But knowing myself, this is going to happen tomorrow anyway.

So she could as well skate in her old Edea Piano? Providing she has them with her of course...
That's what I am confused about. Why the sudden change of boots. Shouldn't she have at least taken her piano ones with her. . Just in case? Would probably have helped in this situation

Boots have a time limit. Maybe her old Edea Piano are useless.

Edit: And Luna´s point: "As I said, it is not common to take two pairs of boots with one to a competition"

After Rostelecom, so 1,5 months.

Seems like there's some concern trolling going on. From what I gathered, Zhenya switched boots after Rostelecom, and those new boots completely broke yesterday. She got new boots yesterday after it happened.

Skaters do not often change their boots. They don't typically have spares because there could be problems with consistency and hurting your feet if you went back and forth between boots. Even if Zhenya had spare boots with her, they would still not be her preferred pair of boots.

Zhenya is a professional. She will do everything she can to make her new boots work. Of course, I hope she can just skate cleanly tomorrow, but most importantly I hope there's no pain because of this.

Such unfortunate timing. We'll have to see how the practices go in a bit.

Of course it's not good. And we've all heard horror stories from the ladies how their feet are killing them when they get new skates. And I think this is a new brand for Evgenia so that's another issue. It doesn't mean she won't skate well for her students will hurt her feet.

I haven't seen any practice footage of evgenia or anyone else. I think if she had a good practice today for her shorty that will make her very confident and calm going into the short program.

Love these photos - thank you for sharing the links! Evgenia and Tina do seem to get on very well. And her outfit for the draw is lovely. She has a fantastic sense of style, and always presents herself so well.
Evgenia literally has the best sense of style, and that's fact. Everything she wears, I want. Brands should use her to advertise more.

What I would like to know why the sudden switch in boots at all? Mabye the pianos weren't working for her that well anymore? But then again she looked pretty good with them.

No clue. Maybe we'll get an answer at some point. She didn't completely switch from Edea, so it's not a sponsorship thing. Maybe she was having small issues with her prior boots? Maybe the new boots are better moving forward for whatever she wants/needs to work on. Maybe they just work better for her feet at the moment.

When a skater replaces her boots it’s because they’ve broken down. At that point it’s dangerous for her to jump in them - she would be risking a bad injury. I would guess that what happened with her boot was unexpected, and that she bought the Ice Flys and not the Pianos because they didn’t have Pianos available in her size. Most skaters know about how long each pair of skates will last them and plan carefully when to replace them. I’m sure that’s the case with Evgenia. I think something really unexpected happened, something she couldn’t anticipate. If she thought the skates were near the end of their life, she would have replaced and broken in new ones before leaving for this competition. Hopefully she will be fine. But it’s really unfortunate this happened.

I for one, am not too worried. This is Zhenya. ZHENYA! We saw her skate through injury beautifully last worlds to take the bronze. We saw her jump on BROKEN BONES to clinch silver at the olympics. We watched her fight last year at RusNats and at Skate Canada after the short when there literally was no chance of winning, and she still fought to give us a beautifully clean performance. Zhenya is a fighter, and I have faith she will fight to give us two beautifully clean programs again. Besides, she seems to skate her best recently when the odds are against her.

6 years ago at the Russian Junior championships, she came in 4th and she had brand new boots and a minor injury, she went to JWC and got the bronze medal.

She can Do this, I have total confidence in her. :)

I saw a video from practice, apparently she was wearing broken boots with a tape (at least I think it was tape) around one of them [emoji32] but she seemed to be doing okay

Yeah, saw it too. Please hold, boots! Please! I'm so nervous for her, I dreamt something about the competition today.

She will skate in a broken boot? OMG. Isn't that dangerous?
Poor Zhenya. It couldn't be any worse.
I'm soooooo nervous!

I'm so nervous too! [emoji51] But she is so strong and I believe that she can fight through this. I'm praying for her!! 🤞[emoji120]
