Yuzuru Hanyu: 2019-2021

Best timing of course. I can understand that they want to interview him as good as possible but they should consider the athletes health as well. I hope it didn't last long so he could hurry to the (hopefully) warm bus.

It was longer than I thought it should be :( I was also watching from above and felt cold for him. It was cold even inside the building. At least someone told him to keep his mask on... he took them out at first.

I wonder if it was planned though... majority of the reporters were actually walking out from the building with/behind him so I really don’t understand why they did the interview there :S

I was misty just watching the practice. I'm lucky the men's short is at 4 in the morning here, so I won't be wearing any eye makeup to destroy.

As for the interview, did they catch him just as he had finished practicing? Not that that would make it any less rude, but he might not have been cold if they caught him while he was still warm (or hot even) from skating.

Russian source "sport-express" printed parts of the Hanyu's coach - Gislen Brian - interview to Kyodo where some interesting remark was mentioned:

- To stabilize his 4Ax Hanyu trained quintuple jumps [with assistance].

When I checked the same article today it looks like the fragment removed.

Honestly I was a little shocked at this comment because I had been so used to his "I want to win, I want to be stronger" attitude. These past three nights, Fuji aired Yuzuru's interviews given after JN and he admitted that he had been in a struggle in terms of detachment from what he had aimed for. But to me, he is still very strong skater and is not behind in skating ability. Sure, he lost in GPF and JN, but what he did there was not terrible at all. (also it was revealed in the interview that he knew the media always reports "crushing defeat" if he makes a mistake.) I feel like wanting someone Japanese talks to him in Japanese and tells him "You are not weak, you are strong." I know his team is very supportive and might say similar things over and over again to him, but sometimes, native language has more impact and goes straight to your ears.

Sorry if my post sounds too negative, what I wish for him is that he will be able to get confidence back and do what he really wants to do without caring about people's noise. And it is great if this program change becomes a good start. After reading the interview from yesterday, I started feeling that he might make new programs in the next season, but it is Yuzuru who is unpredictable so who knows :laugh:

I wish him good competition and the health :pray:
 
So, this is a little more personal than I usually get on this forum but today was a very stressful day. I usually wind down by reading GS threads but I've been avoiding a lot of the Edge because I really don't feel like hearing people's negativity at the moment especially about Yuzuru. So instead I lay down on my bed and closed my eyes, and after a moment the opening bars of Chopin Ballade came to me. And even though earlier I was worried about the men's SP at Four Continents I just felt calm, for the first time in hours. I really think this is the right decision, and I believe he'll be able to skate to the best of his ability this way.

I'm sure I'll feel nervous again when I see him on the ice :laugh: but right now I'm looking forward to it and thinking of how grateful I am to be able to see him skate.

The reporter, Ms. Mita, says Yuzuru started doing run-through of SEIMEI two weeks ago due to music editing. Takeshi Honda says he also has the experience of going back to old programs right before 2002 Olympics, and it was because he felt something did not right with new programs, which affected the competition directly.

Speaking of Ms. Mita, Yuzuru congratulated on her marriage and she looked surprised and so happy :) He also thanked her for always giving him warm comments. How sweet he is :sad4: At this moment, I hate Fuji TV (I can't hide it anymore, sorry) but I know Mita-san has been saying positive about Yuzuru always and maybe he knows.

From my only experience from attending Yuzu's performances in person I remember so loud clapping during some parts of Origin that the music was completely drowned out. There was the moment I understood that he had to know every note by heart to make his skating possible at all. And it's one of the reasons I support his decision on taking back Chopin and Seimei.
But the main reason is I really miss both of the iconic programs of his and am immensely grateful I will be able to see them again.

I also had a rough day...or more a rough morning. I fought my battle already and hope that I was successful. Now it's time again to get nervous for Yuzu. I also tried to avoid all the negativity and since I love Chopin's ballad just the same I turned it on a few times. It calmed me down a lot (even before bed time yesterday when I started to freak out). Now the sun is shining, Yuzu's performance is not too far away. I think it will finally be well.
