She had a bad day - trying quads no less. The fact that she's maintained her quads, and is going for even harder ones, during a pandemic is phenomenal. And when the rhythm of a jump isn't working on a particular day, it isn't a matter of puberty or anything like that - it's just a matter of the skater having a bad day. Sure, if she has splatfests all season, you might have a point but you're making a mountain out of a molehill here.
Zagitova lost 2018 Worlds after one of her worst career skates and people thought she was DONE, and then won both of her GPs and Worlds the year after.
Also skaters don't need to give any medals to those who paid their dues. Why should a skater have to "wait their turn" to pick up hardware. The skaters who paid their dues are welcome to learn quads themselves (like Liza). In a field as saturated as Russian ladies, if you can learn quads and stand out and push the sport, more power to you. I know there's the ongoing conversation about concern for a skater's body, but why allow them to learn triple-triples then if triple-doubles or double-doubles would be safer?
Trusova might be cutting her career shorter by going after quads, but the very reason anyone even knows who she is, and the very reason she has any shot to win this early in her senior career, is largely attributed to her quads. And she (rightfully) didn't even medal here whereas other skaters have fallen 4 or 5 times and medaled over much cleaner skaters.
Nevertheless, waiting your turn for others to retire and give them medals?! What is this -- pre-2000's ice dance?
