I would guess a minimum of 2-3 years. At least that's how long it took Liza to get her 3A back, and she had better foundational technique and was working with arguably the best technical coach in the world.

I remember when Michelle Kwan "Lost" her jumps during the 1997 season. She lost her National and World Titles to Tara and had some rough outings that season. She seemed to recover by the next season and won everything except the Olympics in 1998. Hopefully, Alysa will be in the same boat. The way things are going right now, who knows when she'll truly get to train with her team in the same rink.

I remember people also said that season Michelle had new skating boots as well because her dad made an endorsement deal with a manufacturer so she had to switch her old ones for a new ones due to the contract. Bad move on Danny Kwan's part because new skating boots for no real reason during a growth spurt = a really stupid move.
Still despite that she managed to win two GP events and place no worse than second in all her other competitions (all to Tara in the latter half of the season). It kind of makes me wonder if her struggles that season were mostly due to the boots rather than her growth spurt considering, as you said, she recovered very quickly the next season (but damn that stress fracture!!!!).

I remember that as well. I always wondered if it was a combination of both. She had a hard time "Checking" her jumps that year. She would rotate them, land them, and then fall, or skid after she hit the ice. It was very strange.

Alysa never had a 4Lutz, at least now we don’t have to pretend she’s doing one. Maybe she can also now focus on doing a proper axel takeoff, landed fully backwards, instead of a “spin off the ice and land sideways” axel that can be credited as a Triple if you squint.
The U.S. Ladies just need to wait for the new Artistic Program to be instituted. I mean, keep training some harder jumps, but please try to win that event, when it hopefully becomes born.

USFS has a new article today (Nov 18) re the three friends Amber Glenn, Ashley Cain-Gribble, and Timothy LeDuc.

Thanks Ice Coverage for this info. More round of testing is certainly needed. Where can we find more information about the safety measures? One concern I kept reading is safety of traveling to Las Vegas, especially with surging cases of TSA staff. Would USFSA provide some help in that regard? With the holiday travel in December and Januar, the situation is only going to get much worse.

That’s quite a weak argument considering how many people were sidelined in the GP series. The top 6 easily could have been 4 Russians and 2 Japanese under normal circumstances, and the Americans pose no threat at all of winning a World Championship, or really even a medal, right now.
Nothing wrong with wanting people to succeed artistically though, and be able to win under a different ruleset that could possibly exist in the future. The form, the skating quality, the musicality, the choreography, the expression; yes it would be great to see anyone raising the level there.

As it’s already been pointed out several top skaters didn’t get to compete (including Anna and Rika, both of whom can easily put up 230+ scores) but I’d also like to say it’s ridiculous to compare scores across these competitions. Skate America was very generous in scoring while NHK (apart from Kaori) was very harsh.

The US ladies are not terrible by any means and had a real shot at getting three spots had Worlds happened but trying to prop them up like this isn’t painting an accurate picture.

3 spots would be a HUGE accomplishment for the Ladies. Realistically, the only shot we had at a podium finish was with Alysa. Unless she gets her jumps back ASAP, I don't see it happening. This years worlds are a wash IMO and it's 2022 where we'll see who is at the top of the US Ladies
Three Russians and three Japanese and then there is everyone else. The US Ladies certainly are at the top of that list (OK, maybe Young You, too, but she has been inconsistent) and have a fair shot at getting three spots. Two of the Russian/Japanese would have to underperform. As noted above, Higuchi already has scored below the US ladies, assuming she is on the team. We don't know where Miyahara stands currently. It could happen.

At the time there were two points of view. One was that Mr. Kwan had made a terrible mistke and should abandon the new boots ASAP. The other was that he had agreed to the boot contract and did not then feel that he should go back on his word.

I agree. Anything can happen. Even without Alysa, it is not totally out of the question for Bradie and Mariah to grab 6th and 7th.
It's a long shot, though. Commentators used to say things like, "So-and-so has a one-fall advantage over the other girl." But with the base values that the Russian ladies (especially) can put up, they can win even if they hit only half of their planned super-jumps. It's not like the big jumpers are deficient in other areas like Skating Skills and Presentation.

If there had been a 2020 World's, the US ladies would have had a realistic chance of getting 3 spots. Mostly because the Japanese ladies were having a terrible year. (Rika excepted) However, I don't see that happening this year or next. The Japanese ladies are on a definite upswing. Anything could happen, but it isn't likely. However, the US ladies are talented, I think Bradie, Mariah, Audrey, Amber and possibly Karen will be competing for the World's spots this year. ( If World's is held)
