2025-26 German Figure Skating

We don't have confirmation of which country they'll skate for yet, but it seems like Sara Kishimoto's and Michail Savitskiy's try-out went well and they've come to an agreement about where to train, as they were spotted in an IG story posted by Sam Choinard (IAM choreographer) recently.

So no Team Event for Germany at the Olympics, to nobody's surprise. And no singles skater either - for the first time since 2002.

Not sure if that's good or bad for H/V. More prep time, but other top teams will get to test the Olympic pressure.

I think it is good for Hase/Volodin. We often see skaters burn themselves out in the team event and then do less well in their own discipline's competition. Also Minerva already has olympic experience. Yes, the covid restrictions meant things were different - but she has experienced the pressure of the Olympics.

Well, now it's official-official - Sara and Michail will skate for Germany and train in Canada. They will take part in three Eisgala shows in December, as per the information provided by the organisers:

That's exciting!

Also, I hope that skipping team event will help Hasse/Volodin to a high placement 🙏-- without retracting from it being unfortunate that Germany didn't qualify a team. I think that everything is in the works for next Olympics for it to happen.

Also, this line-up is actually pretty good - Hase/Volodin, Hocke/Kunkel, Deniss, younger Selevko, Niina, and the two Finnish ice dance teams.

I've been dragging my feet a little here, sorry for that. Anyway, on to some news:

Mezzaluna Cup entries have been released and, apart from a sizable German contingent, Mia-Luisa Gibbesch / Lias Luft (Lara Luft's younger brother) will be making their Junior debut and Mia Lee Mayer / Atl Ongay-Perez their competition debut as a new team.

In addition, the Kobor twins and Kruk / Eisenhaber are entered in Juniors. In Seniors, Karl / Hoferichter and Matthaei / Liebers are entered, and in Advanced Novices Victoria Abt / Alexander Müller.

Olympic qualification document by German Olympic Committee. They are asking some minimum scores to be achieved to be sure to be be approved

Hase/Volodin are already ok.
Hocke/Kunkel were close to the A score at Nebelhorn and achieved the B score. They should do it another time.
Janse van Rensburg/Steffan also already got the B score at Nebelhorn. They need to repeat it one more time.

Well, now it's official-official - Sara and Michail will skate for Germany and train in Canada.
I am not on instagram but saw this posted elsewhere

Germany will send two pairs, one ice dance team and one man to Euros. They could send Roscher/Schuster as well, plus one woman, but decided against it...for the women it was said it's basically to protect their mental health because they wouldn't get good results/place very high...

I understand their feelings about the woman, all three top ladies have relatively low scores and it could be rather off putting in an International context. Especially if they are relatively young. Let them build some more confidence first. But why did they not let Letizia and Luis go? Their scores weren't that bad. They've done worse. Is Luis injured again (I surely hope not)?

Probably because they didn't achieve either of the DEU minimum scores (or even came close), but tbh, I'm not sure what they are even based on. The pairs ones feel especially harsh compared to the Euros scores from last season, while the Junior minimums feel much more reasonable.
