Live skating in Sankt Peterburg for Cup of Peter the Great:

a huge lot of novices in all age groups, including the stand out Anastasiya Marasanova

Information with links to timetable, participants and live streams: http://fskating.spb.ru/news/meropryatia/kubok-petra-velikogo-2-etap
Live scoring: https://freeskating.info/results/2021/peter_cup_2etap/

This also happened on a new channel, Kazan Ultimate ( like with all the events in the novices ranks, a sort of mid-season exam for the pupils of the specialised sports schools for children and youth):

Does anyone have a link to the video of Anna, backstage at RusNats in December 2018, finding out she won gold?

Quick clip of it in this video, start about 1 minute in.

Is that it? Also other nice clips in the news report.

I remember this like it was yesterday. She looked so surprised.
And Nugumanova and Tsurskaya were the first to congratulate.

Irina Slutskaya's preview of the coming National Championships:

Valiyeva is competing hors de concours when it comes to selection for the World Championships, which changes the dynamics of the possible contenders Shcherbakova, Trusova, Kostornaya and Tuktamysheva. For all of them, their phsysical health and mental readiness is different.

Totally overlooked Anna Karpuk in the start list of Peter the Great Cup, she just competed her faultless short program in 1-sp for the leading score of 30.47+32.66 = 63.13 ( 3F, FCSp4, 2A, CCoSp4, 2Lz+2T, StSq3, LSp4) ! Which is way better than achieved in Russian Cup stages (50.54 2nd, 47.73 4-th)

Anna has been competing a lot, but so far escaped attention, she has a lovely short program:

i wonder since so many skaters have been sick and missed training time or are missing nationals if RusFed will use whatever they come up with to sub Euros as another qualification competition for the world team.

Perhaps federal budget for fiscal year 2021 needs to be allocated to skaters based on 2020 National Championships results?
Which makes postponing the 'touchstone' event impossible?
But now, many skaters need to 'touch wood' because they appear at the start not at 100% fitness and mental readyness ...

"In Russia, thank God, they have adapted to hold competitions without endangering the health of fans and athletes (...)"

Facepalm

Well is there any evidence that the positive Covid cases are coming from competitions and not ancillary things the banquet or the everyday lives of the skaters? I mean I see pictures on social media of athletes hanging out outside of competition/practice, doing non-competitive events, taking pictures and taking gifts from fans, etc.

They have had an event for years for underperforming skaters at Nationals to make their case for worlds called the Russian cup final.

Not sure how this "changes" their dynamics they have all been in her position before and regardless of what another skater does they should be prepping to do the best they can do.

Obviously, but with Valiyeva the main contender for the Gold medal, without the need to qualify for the World Championships, since junior worlds got cancelled, what does her presence (and those of Usachyova and Khromykh) mean as to the top 6 ranking and financing?

There surely must something be written in the FFKKR rules? I.e. ISU seniors only, I suppose.

Well I'm sure they all knew before the season even started that Valieva was going to be on the main senior team next year just like they were for their first season. I find it strange that the situation has been phrased like its some great anomaly when in reality every couple of years there's a promising junior skating at senior Nationals that's favored to win it was just 2 years ago that 3 of the 4 skaters mentioned were in that exact position as Valieva is in right now.

Well, you just have to look at how many participants happened to be infected or "have a cold" coincidentally after the Rostelecom Cup and then add 1 and 1. Throughout the event, probably no more than 50 to 60 percent of the audience wore their masks in a way that they could do the job! We don't even talk about the teams and the fact that athletes were sometimes withdrawn with fever during the events. The fact that a banquet was held in Moscow and meetings with fans were possible after the competition really only crowns the "good Organisation" on.

There are some good news too (so that we wouldn’t be sad about all the withdrawals): Sima said she got injured shortly after quarantine and spent half an year recovering, she’s planning to compete starting 2021, there’s a competition in April in StPb.

Yay! I though she had retired. Glad to hear that she will be back next year.
