All these posts of the skaters are cute and all...but uhm masks? Almost every senior Russian skater has had covid yet the precautions they are taking are STILL pretty minimal:slink: I also saw clips from practice and I still don’t understand why coaches think it’s wise to have their nose outside of their mask.:palmf:

Some pictures showed some skaters like Shcherbakova wearing a mask walking in and it appears everyone had to wear a mask in the room for the selection but yes then they took them off for a few pictures

One more picture...

I left this thread par the odd post for a good 200 pages probably. I don't feel like catching up though reading the latest pointless drama to substitute for lack of news as exciting as Trusova leaving Eteri.
Oh there's exciting things happening.
The Anna Sasha Kamila showdown in Siberia for Russian nationals will be fantastic!
Ifi Liza is healthy she could be in the mix too.

As promised by Kuznetsov, the resume from todays program run throughs:

Interesting report from the training.

If Sasha goes for two 4Lzs then she only needs a 4T and she wins. She doesn't even need the 3A. It will be very exciting to see her layout. Hopefully she has gone down to three quads and is focusing on a clean skate.

Seems like Anna might have gone back to her 3F+3L combo in the short? If so, that's great. Will she go for two 4Fs and two 3Fs in the long?

Hmm. It's a bit worrying that Konstantinova didn't practice today.

Maybe our Russian speakers can help us out with this translated part.

”Despite certain difficulties with health, Mikhail Kolyada and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva intend to compete in the Russian championship. We will make every effort for this," Mishin said.

The way this is worded can lead someone to conclude that her participation isn’t guaranteed even at this stage.

Unless the “every effort” is in regards to putting maximum effort to do well, and not every effort to compete.

Given the context, "every effort" means that they'll compete. Besides, team Mishin is already there and the draw has already been held (Tuk skates last in the SP). So it's a 99% chance they skate (unless a freak injury happens during the practice/warmup).

To avoid the confusion, from left to right:
Ksenia Tsibinova, Anna Frolova, Daria Usacheva, Anna Shcherbakova, Sasha Trusova, Maiia Khromykh
I was right on all of them except the two on the left. I didn't know.

Great photo but I wish there was like a couple feet between the girls.

If she could switch her repeat quad from the toe to either the lutz or the flip it would be better because those are higher points, she could take out the salchow which was usually her problem jump.
Her most problematic jump lately has been the +3Loop combo. Also inconsistent last season. That thing probably needs to go. It would be interesting if she went in big on the most difficult quads, like Shcherbakova last season. How much has Trusova been training 4F lately, anyone know? This could work for her:

4Lz+3T
4F
4Lz
2A
4T
3Lz+1Lo+3S
3F+3T

I think Alena withdrawing makes it worth it for Liza to compete even if her training isn't 100%. She paid dearly by missing nationals before, and if she can somehow manage to finish ahead of Anna or Sasha she'd probably be guaranteed a worlds spot.

We haven't seen the 4F from Sasha this season, and I don't think she needs it. If she instead goes for the 3Lo and keep those two 4Lzs, that will be more than enough for her to win. If she goes clean of course. And I think there is a much bigger chance to go clean with just 3 quads.

You have three toe-loops here. I haven’t heard of Sasha training the 4F recently, however she has landed 4lo and 4S in training.

Does "going clean" in the LP even mean anything these days? A faulty 4S landing is worth more than a 3Lo. That jump has improved for her (even if still inconsistent), she gets more lift on it now. The clean one she hit at some competition this season was glorious. I think she should keep 4 Quads in the LP (since she definitely won't be doing 3A there), it's good to stay ahead of the competition, and she actually WILL need it if facing a competitor who has both 3A and Quad, since she will go in with a big deficit from the SP.

The problem is though that she tends to fall on one or two of her quads. And a fall on 4S is worth less than a clean 3Lo.

There's no guarantee at all of going clean just because of taking out the 4S. She can fall on any quad at any given time. What she does need to do is pick a plan and stick with it, train that routine constantly. She has been changing things around all the time, which doesn't lend it itself to consistency.

And does she want to win or not? If she isn't able to get the 3A under control, then she's likely going to need a 4-quad LP to beat the competition that is aiming to peak in the Olympic season. She can't be complacent.
