And it‘s definitely the right decision, no sense in pushing your body too far for a season like this. I was only wondering whether, if they‘d made that decision at Rostelecom already (where she looked injured and apparently was, too, according to Plushenko yet still tried 4 (or 3?) quads and a 3A), she might be recovered completely now. What’s done is done anyway, I guess, so I‘ll just have my fingers crossed for two clean programs and a medal for her!
Oh agreed. I just wish they made that decision earlier. I'm just glad they're being smart now. Sasha is incredibly talented, gifted skater. And she's still only 16 and the Olympics aren't until next year.

EDIT: Especially in a meaningless competition, it was foolish to risk Sasha's health like they did. The facts are: 1. She was injured. 2. Her main rivals were gone. 3. It was a meaningless competition; it didn't count for SB or PB. 4. This year isn't the important year and it's a COVID year with less training time.

I think the coaches and Sasha probably didn't know how serious she was injured so they let her go all out for Rostelecom (which was really not a good decision at all). Now if they want her to have a chance at the podium they have to go for something reliable, but also not too extreme, which is what they're doing now. I do agree that her competitors are a lot closer to beating her now, but quads are risky and the ice is slippery, it really depends on who lands their jumps.
The thing is they didn't need to at all. Anna had already withdrawn and Kamila is too young.

You make a good point so who are you blaming to allow Sasha to do that when it was basically like a super Challenger event?

And what exactly was her injury? It was kept pretty quiet compared to other injuries.

I think Plushenko is at fault for failing to persuade Sasha to do less quads, but I do have to say Sasha attempting 4 quads while injured was already a bad decision on her part. He should've told her not to though, that's the job of the coach. Sasha will probably want to attempt 4 quads at any competition she enters, even tiny domestic ones. The coach should be the one to think of battle strategies and long term planning.

Pluschenko clearly stated in his interview two days ago (23 Dec) that Sasha had a leg trauma before GP and participating in GP made things worse. The trauma is a kind of sprain, not of bone/joint.
I hope Sasha is healthy and ready to go.

But if she had skated at that GP event with a leg trauma for her previous coach there would have been a lot more posts about it let's put it that way. ;)

To try all those quads on a bad leg at an almost meaningless event is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in figure skating. The elders in her life have to help Sasha with wise decision making. That means parents and coaches. Hoping she did not do permanent damage to her leg. That would be horrendous. We will find out how she is soon and if she's back to 100%.

As others have pointed out don't kill yourself this season it's an aberration of a season it's a short season it's a very sickly season. Just stay healthy do your competitions and get ready for next season when all the marbles are on the line unless coronavirus says otherwise.

Agreed all the way around. Sasha is always going to want to go for it do the maximum it's in her DNA. I think one of the issues she had at TT is they wanted to control her quad attempts and reign her a little bit and she did not want that.

Its about time she playes the game a bit smarter. She is no 14 years anymore.
True. It's about time. It would be such a waste if she injures herself and misses Olympic season because of that.

I think that injury might have happened in the short at GP Rostelecom? That weird fall she had on the 3A looked scary to me. She kind of twisted both of her ankles.

Her coaching staff and her parents. One or both should have stepped in and not allowed her to attempt 4 quads and a 3A when injured. She was already injured and clearly injured herself more.

I disagree with you that rostelcum cup was a meaningless competition. It has international tv coverage and good price money which is very rare this year. Sashas sponsor for sure demanded her to be there and go for the win.
The extra money from tv coverage via channel1 for the cups is going directly (allegedly) in the pockets of TAT and Co.

Sponsorship money isn't worth your health, first of all. Second of all, I doubt her sponsors would want her to jeopardize events which are more valuable (worlds, nationals, Olympics next year, etc). Nationals she has already put at risk a bit. Third of all, she DIDN'T win. And she could have won with a less risky skate. And finally, the idea that her sponsor's demanded her to skate her hardest skates ever while injured is frankly preposterous. Evgenia and Anna, also have sponsors, and they withdrew entirely. Anna, in particular, was one of the favourites to win. In fact her withdrawl meant it was even more likely that Sasha would win, even with a "watered-down" skate, if you can call it that with 2/3 quads.

For sure. Sometimes you learn lessons the hard.way.
Yeah for sure. It's just a hard lesson to learn. The ones who should have made the call aren't the ones who had a difficult skate and injured themselves even more, particularly needlessly, not to mention the impact on her emotionally. :( I just hope Sasha recovers quickly and completely and that they have learned that her safety and health is paramount.

Anyway, on to the next one. I hope for good skates, from Sasha and the rest! <3
