Hopefully no one but that is unlikely.I agree that ice is slippery, but I think a lot of skaters would have to skate less than ideal for the US to get a third spot (along with the US ladies having to skate well—rotating almost everything). It’s not impossible but I honestly think there’s like a 10% or lower chance
Yeah that’s true and I also hope that no more skaters get sick. One thing that could be a benefit of the US ladies is that they have a lot more competition experience heading into worlds (if it happens), which isn’t really fair but it could be an advantage for them. I do still think that the chances of a third spot are still extremely unlikely, even with other competitors having less experience this season.
Karen inproved so much between Skate America and Nationals that I could see her doing well at Worlds. She was rotating her 3/3 at Nationals practice; she might surprise us and rotate everything at Worlds (assuming it hsppens).
That would be great, but it is extremely unlikely. If she rotates all her jumps (which she has never done before in any senior competition), she would definitely score well. Karen is a beautiful skater. However, the more likely scenario where Karen will score better is if there is generous technical calling. 2019 Worlds had a very lax technical caller, if Worlds happens this year and the technical panel doesn't do their jobs properly that would definitely benefit Karen. However, it would also benefit Anna S., Satoko, Young You, and several other skaters. So, I am not sure it would be a net benefit for the US in their search for 3 spots.
for 3 spots their placements have to add up to 13 or less at the previous worlds, but i'm not sure about 2 or 1 spots.
I agree 100%. I was actually hoping they'd send Amber this year! She would have been a wild card at Worlds, but with her 3a potential, the US would probably have had a better chance at three spots.
Thanks for the info. So, if a skater from, say, New Zealand (which never really has any skaters at Worlds) had a wunderkind who finished in the top 10 at this year's Worlds, would NZ have 1 spot or 2?

For example at nationals this year, even though she was landing nice jumps in practice, in the short she ended up not rotating every triple in the short. And internationally, she would get way more punished than she was here. It’s just hard to imagine Karen rotating everything because it has never happened, and since this is the worlds that as of right now decides the Olympic spots, there’s extra pressure. And I know Karen did well in 2017, but it was a completely different skating world back then and 129 now wouldn’t be top 10.
