Final Cup of Russia

See the issue with this statement?
And what is the issue? Alena struggles with maintaining speed during turns etc but she has usually has great speed across the ice and gorgeous edges. For example the opposite, Alina can do all these complex steps and turns in her step seq but her skating skill is quite average outside her step seq.

That's just how it goes in figure skating, it happened before and it will happen again. One season you are the big star and everybody's darling, next season nothing goes right for you. At least Aliona still seems to have all the support from RusFed, they didn't kick her aside as they did other skaters before her. :(
I disagree the Fed has ever kicked a darling aside. Or do you not remember Evgenia going to world's in 2019 - it's the same thing. (Lesser skaters yes. But PCS darlings like Evgenia, Alina, Anna, and Aliona - no not until they have to.) Aliona is definitely not the only one to struggle and still have fed support - that's always been my argument for why all the previous skaters - and Kamila and Daria - will go if they can. Also international judges LOVE all of them and score them nicely. It's why Liza N was realistically no threat because international judges won't save her if she has a skate like Aliona just did. But they would save the others. That's why Evgenia went to worlds.

The main question mark with Valieva I think is how her body develops in the next year, I think Shcherbakova for example is just about done with that, or at least looks that way.

If Valieva skates clean she probably is the best skater in every single category.

She struggles with maintaining momentum performing turns and can't maintain precise upper body control without swinging, so her skating skills are quite overrated. IMO.

Usacheva executes turns and steps far more effortlessly and maintains her momentum significantly better. Kostornaya struggles and has to swing hard. I also looked at their programs again and don't see what you're describing at all.
I think one of the places Kostornaia was better than Usacheva was her depth of edge. Her quality of glide was better too. But she didn't have those qualities here, and Usacheva does have nice control over her steps and turns. I'd give it to Usacheva too here.

The issue is that performing steps and turns, multidirectional and on one foot, is integral part of SS, as the things you mentionned. Alena maybe has potential to score the highest in SS but depending on performance of those other things, that will not always be the case.

Can somebody post the standings after the SP?

Who got underscored among the ladies and overscored?

She did those things well even tonight. However at the moment, COVID is still affecting her, but when at her best she can build speed through turns like no one else. That is the true mark of great SS. Anyway, Daria is great, too. I have no desire to insult her.

Sorry to ask, but is there a link? I looked in the first few pages and couldn't find. I'm hoping to find it, then watch everything I have to catch up on.

One nice thing about dance is that it lacks drama, if Sinkats can stay on their feet and finish their programs they will go to World's. I will confess I am not their better fan. But, RF knows who will score best internationally.

There is not just ladies' skating in Russia, you know. But it was a long time ago and a moot discussion now anyway. You are certainly right that they continue to support Zhenya, maybe to the detriment of other skaters. We will see how it goes with Aliona next year.
