I just read this: "The Americans needed a total placing that added up to no worse than 13 to earn a chance to get a third Olympic spot. Because of a rule change in 2018, the Americans now need to secure the third spot at 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy, Sept. 22-25 in Germany.

A skater other than the two who finished in the top 10 in Stockholm will have to compete in the fall competition. U.S. skating officials will have a big decision to make with three strong candidates in Richmond’s Alysa Liu, Mariah Bell and Amber Glenn."

So we still do not technically have 3 spots?

Also, the skater at Nebelhorn only needs to compete, without any particular placement? So you could send someone to Nebelhorn and they file their nails on the ice and we'd still have 3 spots?

This post helps me relax about our spots. IMO Amber needs the exposure and as the Silver Medalist, she deserves the option to go.

I really hope the USF gives Amber a chance. She has the best jumping ability of the US ladies. ( Her jumps are rotated and high) Her basic skating is also nice. I don't think her coaches are favorites in the US federation. But, she has the most potential. ( Imho)

Let’s send Amber and Bradie (or Mariah, if you prefer) to the World Team Trophy and give them an opportunity to impress an international audience. Karen can skip this, as she just proved herself, most admirably. IMHO!

The U.S. lady at Nebelhorn will need to achieve a certain placement in order to earn the third OWG spot.
(Until the ISU officially clarifies its rule, the exact placement that is required will not be known.)

USFS already is thinking about the possibility of requiring head-to-head competition at a summer event where U.S. ladies can make their case for the Nebelhorn assignment, per Phil Hersh's tweeting from yesterday.

Just saw this comment on Twitter from Lynn Rutherford, and she mentions why she took it out.

Been going back & forth on this with an ISU rep, someone involved w/Nebelhorn & Phil all week. What it highlights is how poorly written ISU communications can be at times. I thought I had it down cold, with a source, published it & then removed it. Turns out it was right (maybe).

Thank you for the update and behind-the-curtain peek at Lynn Rutherford's revision/reporting process.
I am a big fan of Lynn, and I share her frustration that the ISU has not provided definitive clarity to resolve the differing interpretations of the original ISU language.
Good for Lynn for staying on the case.

Even people on the cusp of their 1 guaranteed spot earned at Worlds (Michal Brezina) doesn't know for certain if he actually have it. ISU is terribad at writing official documents.
I think Brezina has it (the last one in the worst-case scenario). But it's true that EVEN THE SKATERS INVOLVED DON'T KNOW. And yes, the ISU shous clarify ASAP.

Karen should absolutely get to go! Drop Bradie and let Amber come too.
No, as US Champion Bradie should get to go to WTT (if she so chooses) and show a better performance than the one at Worlds with a disintegrating boot. And if Karen wants to go, she should go too. If one of them opts out, then Amber can go.

Neither Bradie nor Karen can go to Nebelhorn. But there will be a skate-off to determine which US lady will go.

Worlds was the first time Bradie has been beaten internationally by another in American since.....? She has a legit excuse for her poor performance and I have no doubt she’s itching to redeem herself. As the US champ I’m sure she will be asked to WWT and I’m sure she will go. She’s not one to pass an opportunity

And Karen if offered WTT she should go. She needs every event to build her Olympic team inclusion narrative cause her 4th at worlds isn’t enough. The rest of her record is still too spotty.

As for Nebelhorn I didn’t know they were having a skate off. Have they ever done that before? If Alysa has her 3A back then in my opinion there is no question. She needs to make a splash in the senior ranks and start building a narrative for herself. It’s been deluded quite a bit this season and if she wants to be in conversation for the Beijing podium then Nebelhorn is a great place to start.

I don't know if 2020 Skate America counts as an international event, as it was 99% American skaters, but Mariah did narrowly beat Bradie there.

not ranking but it will count for season's best this year which is why I was actually hoping they would send Amber, otherwise she might not get GPs because her world ranking is low. Bradie and Karen have guaranteed GPs now from Worlds and Mariah will also get GPs from her world ranking.
That would be good. Amber was the silver medalist after all. I think she deserves it.

yes but the question then becomes Bradie or Karen for the 2nd spot? Whoever goes will get the Team Trophy candies if they have a good performance and it could set them up very well for the Olympics. Remember Bradie scored 225 last time even though she had never scored more than 213, then the following season she got 216, 223, etc. But maybe this time Karen deserves the momentum? idk

Karen and Bradie earned that 3rd spot for W2022 and potentially, Olympics. On that basis alone, they should get the WTT $$$.

BTW, Mirai Nagasu had a history of disintegrating boots, too. Hmmm. They have the same coach, and both practiced 3a intensively. That has to be hard on boots.....

Yeah, Bradie only had her boots for one month. Training the triple axel day after day can't be easy.

One of the British commentators said that Bradie had a tendency to underrotate. What happened?? That certainly wasn't the case when she first came into the limelight 3 years ago. She was known as a rock solid consistent skater, always rotated her jumps, never/rarely fell. Karen has a reputation for underrotations and the judges are always dinging her for it. It won't be good if Bradie is also developing this reputation.

Speaking of Karen and Bradie, I am such a fan of their costumes. I heard Karen is keeping her long program for Beijing, and I hope she'll keep the dress too. Lilac purple looks so good on her

I really like Bradie's costumes too. She's also doing a good job with showing her artistic range with her rock n roll short program.

It would be nice if they would send Amber, but they probably will not. Going forth, there better be a huge amount of work on the triple axel this summer. That jump is everything. Karen is capable of doing one, Alysa and Amber I assume will have it. I don't think either Bradie or Mariah will be able to get it.
