Ngl, I suspected Liza had given her all at Worlds and was gonna be a hot mess here, I'm very impressed with how well she skated. And I'm glad Anna looked more like a World champion here, that she could finish this season with a strong performance.

They skated really relaxed and engaging here so I'm guessing the less pressure compared from worlds plus the presence of audience definitely fed off to their energy. Im glad the whole Russian team ended their season with great performances

Anna looked so much better and improved. Liza was stable and I can see a clear path to 3 3As and all levels reached with a maximised program next season. But I almost don't understand why it couldn't have happened a few hours ago. Again 2 step-outs that just didn't need to happen. So close.

When was she seen as 3rd?
That was the general consensus before last season. Everyone thought Sasha would win everything and many suggested Anna should stay junior for another year. Even Tara & Johnny said at SA that she was the overlooked forgotten one...

And later at Nationals very few people believed in her. It was Sasha and Aliona all the way.

It's kinda strange. Even now when she is the WC, I don't see many people predicting she has any chance at any gold medals next season.

And it's one of Ted's favorite phrases: "Anna the forgotten one"

Edit: He probably won't be using that anymore. Not in the present tense at least 🤔

Yes. Can we please have a separate thread for senior Russian girls next season.
If anyone wants to settle a separate thread, he is free to do so. But if that will be on me like in case of this very thread, I will start it for anything relevant to the russian ladies/junior ladies/novices if necessary.

For instance participation in JGP (as it is probable it will take place) talks can be hardly prohibited from the RLT, similarly junior nationals.

But forgetting about one man's words or a forum, factually she has not been third. 2nd at World Jrs and won RusNats. Aliona always had lower scoring potential and no 3A/quads so why would Anna be seen as 3rd? Then first senior year Aliona skated with the 2nd group and then was on top with her new 3A, but Sasha faltered and switched to 3rd. Anna was 2nd at GPF, 1st at RusNats and 2nd at EC2020 with a big gap from Sasha. So why would she be seen as 3rd that season too? Doesn't make sense.

I thought of the exact same thing Flanker thought of, those comments by Ted Barton. I think the point is not so much that Ted himself thought that Anna was "third," but that his comments showed that other people thought that. It was an opinion of some currency.

I agree: it doesn't make sense that she was seen as third. But I think she was. I don't think it was a clear or objective judgment.

(For the record, here are the words: "Are you kidding me? Never rule this young lady out. She is to some degree the forgotten one; the other two shine so brightly. But this young lady is also amazing." Good stuff. I once thought that you could have a drinking game for Ted Barton broadcasts: drink every time he says "this young lady." But you would quickly be in trouble. https://youtu.be/Vt20Utl4KgU?t=9240 )

Yes I know it's complicated. Especially at RusNats where 14 yo juniors compete with the seniors.

But I think this thread would benefit from it. It is way too big as it is now. The Russian girls are too popular!😀

I would suggest one thread for seniors and one for juniors/novices.

What we have learned today is that Anna managed to get a new international PB with just one quad (and not a great one). But beside the quad she was clean. She now has a better PB internationally than Sasha.

Skating clean is the key...

You named other problem (not the last one). Sofia (both Sofias in fact), Adeliya and several others will compete in juniors internationally but both junior and senior competitions nationally. Spreading talks between separate threads would bring only confusion, duplicit posts and unnecessary calling for "but this does not belong here", in other words some users will try to police other users which is not the thing for which I'm creating the thread like this, not to mention more shallow counterargument, it would bring me only double problems with publishing necessary info on the front page. You also don't see separate wiki page for Alina Zagitova the junior and the senior. Your proposal was made, but I say I'm against it, there is no reason to change things working for years just because I replied to a requested information and particular people feel offended by it. I won't make myself more problems just because of it.

Ok, no worries Flanker. It was just a suggestion...

I'm happy with whatever happens😀

Trigger Warning, please nobody feel offended and go on attack, this is not a critique, but:
Anybody else ever feels a bit weird discussing and evaluating them super super young Russian girls? As in girls that haven't even entered juniors yet? Even if the discussion is not viscous or even negative at all, like it is for seniors, it's just a bit bizarre to me.
Of course one then asks the question: "Then what is the age from which you should feel ok to start judging and critiquing kids on an anonymous internet forum? What's the difference between a 14yo Kamila Valieva and an 11yo Alena Zhilina?"

But I'm just saying, this sport is becoming so young I see people, on the internet in general, again please nobody here feel attacked, starting to look at the 10 year olds to make predictions about the next OGM...

Yes. Can we please have a separate thread for senior Russian girls next season.
I think it's ok to discuss the sporting achievements of the little Russian girls on this board as long as the comments are appropriate and not discouraging. However, I second Jontor's suggestion for two separate threads next season, one for Senior Russian Ladies and one for Junior and Novice Russian Girls.

Edit: Ok, I just read further down through the thread and I also understand flanker's argument about the JGP and the junior girls competing nationally as seniors. So granted, splitting up the ladies into two separate threads might be easier said than done. Whatever happens is fine with me, I just take a break from the RLT whenever it gets too novice/junior focussed for me.

Just one correction, it was season best, not personal best, that remains 162.65 from GPF 2019. Though yes, that was with two clean quads (and one fall), today Anna reached nearly the same score with one quad with a step-out (the "Anna step-out" that looks nearly like a part of the choreo  ). I just wonder what her score would be if she performed on the level of the Russian nationals (and still hope Anna will deliver much more such skates).

The first attempt is under, the second video is 3F-3T (and I'm not talking about the fact that this is just a training session, in this case Liza can do quads too)
You insist on undefendable position. Losing a jump is not a question of whether you make a mistake in a moment, but whether you are not able to jump it. Any skater doing a mistake in a competition would then just lose a jump.

And it is 4F+3T. Take it easy, sometimes you are simply wrong.

No. But I do think there should be a separate thread.
NO. NO. NO.

It specifically says in the forum rules.

Note: Please do not create threads for skaters until they reach the junior competitive age of 13. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998 is a United States federal law (15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506) created to protect the privacy of children under 13. This includes posting links to videos and images to children under the age of 13.”

Note: I’m not trying to attack the OP, I‘m just saying for everyone’s sake, that doing so could technically be considered illegal. JUST BE CAREFUL.

(I’m not angry, and while it might come across that way, I just wanted to warn everyone so that no one gets into trouble.)
