A misstep at Europeans probably means finishing off the podium, which would be pretty hard to do for any top Eteri skater. But I agree that several medal contenders will be left at home because only three Russians can go.

Disagree that it would necessarily mean finishing off the podium, if Trusova who has a track record of multiple falls and has a splatfest at Europeans I could see them doing a skate-off and consider pulling her from the Olympics.

Maybe, but she won the LP at Worlds with a pretty rough program. The Russian Fed knows what they're getting with her, which is someone who is going to have hits and misses with the amount of technical content she attempts. As long as she (or anyone picked for the team) has a good chance to beat the American and Japanese skaters, I don't see them replacing her.

Doesn't sound very probable. At worlds Sasha with multiple errors still finished 12 points ahead of Loena, who is possibly the closest contender to the Russians in Europe. So, unless there would be a complete disaster I can hardly see any other podium at Europeans than three russian ladies. But the bronze medal at Europeans doesn't have to be enough to get a skater to the olympics if the performance is weak (weak to the russian standards).

I might be wrong, but I thought that gold and silver at nationals go to the Olympics no matter what, right? So that situation would only arise if say, the bronze at nationals went on to get bronze(with a weak performance) at europeans.

Averbukh choreographed new short program for Liza, I actually hoped that she would get back to the Assassin's Tango, I think it was beyond great for her.

I was wondering the same thing. If she landed one they surely would have shown it. Usacheva and Maiia too. But it's only a been a week. I want to see new and consistent ultra-C!!!!! hehe
Someone in another thread noticed that Aliona was wearing her padded shorts, which she used to wear while practicing 3A, so that could mean she is working on it.

Anna seems to be mostly fine! Her toe might be bandaged or something under her socks, but that seems to be it.

The only potentially bad thing is that its her right foot, so it's her picking toe (and she has a tendency to smash that pick) so I wonder if she'll be able to jump right away or still have to take it light for a little longer and focus on spins/footwork/programs

That's why I really want Trusova on the team! One of the Eteri girls is going to be Olympic champion. If Sasha bombs, she gets third at Olympics. If she hits, she'd blow the competition away. I'd take a risk with her, but then at whose cost? It would come down between Anna and Alyona. Alyona has her work cut out for her if she has to stand out against Anna for the Olympic team.

I would argue that Russian Federation isn’t looking for 3 skaters who all can be Olympic champions. I think they would pick 3 skaters, who can guarantee a podium sweep.

Having a record-breaking score would surely be very appreciated by them, but imo having all 3 medals is what matters more, when they have to round up their results for that season.

I would say consistency will matter extra next season.

there's still one TBA from Russia for Rostelecom
Likely Maiia, since she has only one spot. It's just weird Sinisina got two ahead of Maiia, who is on the main team and Ksenia isn't even Reserve. Or is Ksenia now considered that last Reserved spot? Guess Med saw the writing on the wall and passed, or was passed.

Wow, Aliona‘s path to the final is brutal... Skate Canada‘s field seems pretty ridiculous overall. Why would you put the three favorites of the three biggest skating countries together at one event? Rika, Kamila and Alysa + Aliona and Liza? Compared to that Rostelecom is positively empty. Just strange.

Glad that Ksenia got 2 GPs! Sad that Maiia only got 1. Maybe she’ll manage to get that Rostelecom spot.

When do they have to decide the host spot by?

Nugumanova didn't get any spot when she is on the reserve team and Sinistaya is nit, neither did Medvedeva get a spot.

Of the skaters that got no spot or only 1 I would prefer from an enjoyment of her skating perspective to see Nugumanova at Rostelecom
