I haven't followed Petrosyan very closely, so correct me if I am wrong but compared to JRussNats, she seems to have upped her technical components by switching her 3F-3T to a 3Lz-3T, even though her Lz was at times quite wonky and troublesome. Moreover, I find her speed and skating quality very high for her age and also in comparison to the other athletes from her group. I definitely think that in PCS she is far better than Zhilina, the latter has though amazing jumps.
3F is the required solo jump for juniors this season. 3Lz isn't her best jump so I feel like she'd probably still do 3F-3T if the solo jump was different.

I agree that her PCS is usually better than Zhilina's, but Adelia wasn't at her best PCS-wise yesterday and Veronika was better than usual. IIRC, Ted said on the broadcast that Adelia's practices were rough so that was likely on her mind during the program.

Thank you very much for clarifying. I totally forgot about the jump rules in Juniors.

I watched the SP. Hard to watch three of my four faves compete against one another. I don’t know who to root for 😭. They all skated clean. I enjoyed watching these performances. It looks like Russia is allowing 10 girls to compete in the circuit. Four here, five in Russia and Frolova the week after. This means only 5 spots up for grabs for second spots. So much competition for these slots. My prediction is five Russians and Isabeau in the finals.

I agreed with the placements. But, Sofia should have gotten a higher PCS score. She should be further ahead. Second, I guess Veronika deserved that spot. But, her PCS score should have been lower. Adeliya and Maria should have gotten higher PCS scores and be closer to Veronika.

I can’t wait to wake up early tomorrow morning. Will Mia land her two 4Ts. Will Maria, Adeliya attempt to land a 4T or decide to go for clean performances? Will Veronika go for 3A, 4T and 4S. Maybe even a 4Lz. All this talent. She should be careful not to overdo it. Her test skate 4S was amazing! Also, Sofia’s 4S at test skate was huge, but, she fell. I think depending on how the others do, she’ll decide whether or not to risk it. I think she is now my favourite Russian girl. So, looks like I’m rooting for Sofia tmrw.

Someone filmed Adeliyas practice run and she looked quite good landed both the quad and lz-lo combo. But obviously practice will be difrent to comp after all during test skate warm up she landed many of the 3lz-3lo combos and then couldn't do it in the actual performance.

I think he said that she did 4 quads in practice and will be doing them in competition. I'm assuming that he means that she'll just be doing quads in her lp rather than specifying any quantity.
Looks like she has three quads planned, one in combo, one in the second half and a triple axel. Going to be holding my breath for this one.

Her layout and transitions seem super risky.

Doing a transition spread eagle to 3Lz-3Loop doesnt make sense with how difficult that is while not doing it on her solo 3Lz. better to do a simplier transition going to the combo and move that spread eagle to the solo 3Lz.

This is her layout and this is my proposed layout

4T --- 4T
3Lz-3Loop --- 3Lz-2T
2A --- 3Loop
2A --- 2A
3F-3T --- 3Lz-3T
3F-eur-3Sal --- 3F-eur-3Sal
3Lz --- 3F

She is going lose in BV but my layout is safer.

Maybe an unpopular opinion…but Nikas short program is growing on me???

Now, it’s not an artistic masterpiece but if you take it for what it is, a bit campy/a bit cringy, you can appreciate it a bit more.

The voiceover after the 2A where she introduces herself as Harley Quinn is cute and the changes in expression of the music during the step sequence meet her where she’s at artistically by allowing her to turn on and off her performance.

(Hopefully) This will not be the best program of her career, but it may provide a stepping stone to learning how to perform more.

Adelia was lovely as always and Sofia is becoming a star in my eyes. Good luck to everyone in the free!

Good job to all the ladies. Poor Adelia might just have lost her second spot, who knows now. :( It all depends on how others will skate.
I might gotten used to Russian cup version bonus scores, now regular scores seem so low, lol!
Judging still seems a bit iffy to me, I don’t particularly agree with PCS scores.

Zhilina was on fire!!!! I'm so happy. There were times when she was a bit out of the program but I think she snapped back pretty quickly. Her PCS was generous but then she had 3 quads and a great SP. Her quads looked so good. That 4T3T was so great! The 2nd 4T was so high I gasped, it's probably as high as Trusova/Valieva. I'm. glad she didn't go for the 3A to decrease the risk and it paid off. I hope she continues on this path of consistency.

Muravieva also went the smart route without the quad. She's the new judges fave with the 65 PCS and I'm here for it!

A bit surprising about Petrosian's score.

Overall, I think the judges were harsher today than in the SP.

I got my podium! This was a great week.

That second 4T was as high as Sasha/Kamila. Compared to her height it would be what I imagine if Midori Ito did a 4T! I am very excited to see its progression and the inevitable 5T. 😁

I love the short!!! I think it's charming and the free is a great contrast to it!

I knew that with 4 Russians competing I was gonna feel bad for one of them. 😭😭 And it's the 4th place finisher, who I happened to really like. But sofia was 2nd and I really like her too so I'm not totally in the dumps..... but I really hate the sound of Tobey maguire's voice.

Great competition! Easily the most fun I‘ve had watching skating for a while.

Some impressions

1. Zhilina. What an athlete. To think that this is the same girl who fell all over the ice sometimes 2-3 times per program last year, is insane. Total turnaround. Loved her confidence and her jumps, of course, are amazing. So much power and lovely technique as well. She reminds me of a young Sasha, albeit with much better spins. I did find her PCS considerably overscored throughout both programs however. I guess it only shows once again that landing quads will have an effect on PCS, though it really shouldn‘t have… Deserved Gold anyway.

2. Muravieva. My favorite of the competition and imo, the only one who really performed in the FS and understood the music she was skating to. I liked the FS, despite the voice overs. The only thing I would change is that horrible gunshot at the end. All the emotion that built up during the skate gets destroyed by this one second and all of a sudden it verges on the comical. Still, I was pleasantly surprised when the judges actually acknowledged the difference in performance/interpretation between her and the others and gave her a well deserved lead in PCS. I hope and think this should be enough for a second assignment.

3. Petrosyan. Sigh. How do I even start here? Look, there‘s a reason she was my favorite last year and it wasn‘t her jumps. I noted it at Nationals already, but they‘re all pretty tiny and often wonky and it‘s only her catlike ability in the air that saves them. So her low GOEs, unfortunately, are pretty justified. There is something that Adelia has, that no one else does, however. And it‘s her natural charisma, energy and star quality. But this is something you need to build on and cultivate. And instead, Team Tutberidze has her skate to two generically dark, depressing songs that don‘t even match to boot! The choreography makes no sense whatsoever, there‘s no story, no coherence, nothing. I‘m sorry to say this but this was altogether a horrible decision. You can‘t have a talent like Adelia Petrosyan and put her in a program like this. If there‘s no time for the juniors because your only choreographer has to do 10 senior Olympic programs, then just admit it and let them keep their old ones. But don‘t do… whatever this is.

Now that I got that out of the way, some more words on Adelia herself. Ted said he saw her land a single quad in practice all week and she struggled with +Eu+3S combos as well. Considering all that, it shows great mental strength to go out and skate two clean programs AND land that quad! Good job to her and I hope she gets a second assignment.

4. Zakharova. I feel almost bad because I‘ve just written two paragraphs on Adelia and there‘s nothing really I can say on Maria. She‘s solid but not spectacular on anything, honestly. I also don‘t like her posture during jumps, she gets very low. It‘s unfortunate but I see nothing that would warrant a second spot.

I am so happy for Veronika. After the season she had last year, she really deserved this. I hope this can be a huge confidence boost for her and she can carry this momentum through the rest of the season! She should definitely be able to keep her second assignment in Poland (or somewhere else if she gets moved). I think she still needs to grow into the free skate a little more but I was so impressed with her today. What a talent she is! She and Sofia M may just be my favorite junior ladies this year.

Speaking of Sofia, I loved her as well. She just connects to her music so much better than everyone else in this field. The free skate is a little disjointed music-wise (the Tobey Maguire voiceovers and the gunshot don't help) but I do like the theme overall and she sure does sell it! After this weekend, she should be a lock for one of the remaining spots in my opinion.

I love Adelia, I really do, but this free skate isn't it for me. I just feel like she's capable of so much more. I know I said this yesterday, but I really wish she'd bring back her Artsakh program from last year. You can tell that she loved that program and really connected to that music. She still did a nice job today and it was great to see her land the quad and get a medal!

I feel a bit sad for the Eteri juniors this year. We joked in the off-season that Daniil would be overworked creating programs for all the high-profile talent, but it turns out they really didn't put much thought into the juniors' programs. Test skates gave that impression and Adeliya's competition performance in the last days underlines it. One poster in the JGP thread said, quite correctly, that to Eteri only winning bronze at a JGP event doesn't matter anymore, since she has higher aspirations with most of the Olympic hopefuls in her camp. Well, it matters to Adeliya. :( That JGP probably was the highlight of her career so far, and she would have deserved better programs.

congratulation to our top 3 girls. They were amazing.
I’m happy to see that Veronika landed all her quads. She’s such a talented girl and I knew that she would bounce back after her difficult season last year. It’s good to see her confident.
Sofia gives a more mature skating, she has majestic vibes. Beautiful to watch.
I like Adelia’s new FS and I’m glad she landed her first quad. She has room to improve.

I agree with you on Adeliya. She has a star-power and charisma that draws you in, but something is missing right now. To be honest, nothing in her programs- the music, choreography, connects with her skating, or makes her stand out. It’s just nice skating, similar to what we’ve seen before, to completely blah music, and I think Adeliya is capable of a lot more. She has natural performance ability that carries her, but no connection to the material she’s performing. I’m just a little confused on what’s happening and how I’m supposed to be perceiving her. I think her scores could rise dramatically throughout the season, but I was definitely surprised to see the judges be a bit more reserved with her scores than they could’ve been. I don’t really know what to make of that, but I think the programs are an issue here, for sure.

Yeah, team Tutberidze does have a bit of a tendency to go in a completely different direction than me when it comes to making the decision on which programs to keep and which to replace. I think that Adelya's last season's FS was for sure one that she should repeat this season but oh well.

She just wasn't there at all in this competition as far as I'm concerned. It was... okay, but certainly nothing that would stand out to me in a meaningful way. Part of it is on her, for example even with her programs I think Muravyova could have sold them better. But she probably is suffering from the consequences of Eteri having half a dozen senior ladies competing for Olympics, and those definitely are going to take priority over juniors however unfair it might feel for her.
