I really liked Sinitsyna's SP, definitely the highlight of the event for me.

At first i couldn't even recognize her, she's blonde now and the classical style is a big departure from her last programs but i support this move: dare to be different going classical when almost nobody does it these days, not perfect in the combo, risky though at the end of the program.

As for the others recycled poses, recycled themes often, even the costumes some look like straight up recolored. A bit unimpressed by the programs.

Like Valieva technically was brilliant but also stylistically it's on the same vein of last year's SP, just a different piano piece with a different shade of blue but fundamentally the same concept, Shcherbakova's program is on the same vein of last year's short.

Kostornaya looked better than i thought, while Trusova looked worse but hard to judge now at this stage, we'll see from now on who will work the hardest.

Why does Kamila keep wearing Ice Dance dresses, they look ridiculous and constantly get in the way... At least use a body suit if you want to be different.

Because it's a common trick to make the skater look older and mature, more than Ice Dance these long skirts often remind me of Maria Butyrskaya and Slutskaya back in the days. lol

1tv exclusive about FS programs from Sambo-70

Danny G says Aliona’s problem is mainly mental, this is why 3A isn’t as consistent as they would have preferred. He says when it comes to physicality, she can do quads, but mentally she isn’t ready for them.

Looking the way she jumps triples .. is the only explanation ...

any links where it would be possible to watch now SP test skates?
YouTube stream from Channel 1. This was the worldwide stream from this morning. They are available to watch after the event as well. You can still watch all of last year’s events (test skates, Russian Cup, nationals, Channel 1 Cup, RCF) as well as nationals from 2019/2020 on YouTube as well. They’re pretty easy to find. Just type it into the search bar and it’ll pop up. Your search doesn’t need to be that precise. You can type in “rus nats 21“ and 2021 nationals will show up as one of the first results. (But for 2020 nationals you need to type in ”2020” not just ”20”)

Is it just me or did none of the programs seem particularly 'Olympic'? Kamila and Anna had great music, but the programs felt a big generic. Alexandra has a nice concept but I'm not sure if it displays her best qualities. Ksenia's program was pretty good though, somewhat meditative even.

That said, I'm amazed how well all the girls are prepared at this point of the season. Jumps are mostly top notch and all the athletes are already very involved in their programs and skating.

Thank you:thank:

No, not just you. All of it was a disappointment. Valieva skated like she's very much going to be OGM this season and all props to her, but her vehicle could be so much better.
I remember last year there were exactly the same reactions to programs, including Kamila’s Storm. Some people now call it a masterpiece though.
I think everyone, including Kamila, will improve their performances by the time of competition. The programs will also likely change.

Performance wise, I liked Maiia and Daria the best. These two really got me hyped for the rest, both were very good and showed improvements compared to last year. Both looked very “senior”. Kamila’s performance was great and I feel like it’s on par with last year and that she can and will do even more with that program. The rest don’t seem to be quite there yet, but I’m sure they will be.

Impressions:

Maia: Love this program for her. Maybe could be more interesting but the length of her limbs with the long movements AND how much she enjoys performing it really makes it for me. I think it was really smart to keep it. It’s engaging, it suits her, and her proportions after growing a little have really evened out the image. Might be my favorite, which I didn’t think I’d say because she’s never really stood out to me, but this just works for her now that she’s matured into it.

Liza N.: It’s fine, but she looks slow. I think she looked better last season.

Daria: I was hoping that they’d have more of a build up moment into the finale of the skate but I do love that she’s nailed down the Alina thing of transitioning spin positions with the music. I thought she looked hesitant so wondered if she was injured— stating that’s why she didn’t have a 3A made sense to me.

Sofia: I preferred the previous program with this outfit. I don’t get the mixing of the music at all. Seems a little choreographically weak, I don’t get miming the music, the phone thing and holding up the one. I’d expect it on Dance Moms, not here.

Ksenia: Very beautiful dress, and a solid performance. I don’t know if the music is the most engaging, but this is a competitive piece.

Anna: Shame about the combo but I love the facial expressions she has. So many complain about Zhenya, for example, over expressing but Anna’s face never seems over the top. I was expecting a little more from the choreography I guess, but again, a competitive program.

Aliona: First I very much appreciate the personal growth we heard in her interview. I think she is under so much pressure with the 3A that when it isn’t absolutely perfect it really throws her off, and you could see that the next fifteen seconds really. Her triples look lovely, and I really want her to get past the mental block. Aliona with quads and a 3A… omg. I love her step sequence. It’s definitely my favorite. The music is meh. I REALLY enjoy the entrance into her last spin. Has anyone done something like that before? Like Maia, Anna, and Liza T. I like that she connects with the audience with her face. I think that’s missing from everyone else.

Sasha: So weird to see her with the white skates. But that’s not important. I’m sure the transition out of the flip is probably intended to be cleaner to go into that part of the music but I really appreciate the effort into skating a little bit softer, into improving the non-jump componente. So much red though omg. I hope she doesn’t keep it like that, it’s distracting. Again I don’t know if I’m completely sold on the choreography but it’s still competitive.

Liza T.: She looks very good. I love her program though she doesn’t maximize the jump layout. The music is a great choice. She’s also not usually my favorite so lots of surprises for me today. Especially that she was clean on their jumps when Anna, Aliona, and Sasha weren’t.

Kamila: These long dresses need to go, why is she destroying the lines of her long limbs, I don’t get it. Her single jumps are so good but I will never get over the horrifying combo technique. It’s pretty typical, the music adds a lot to her ability as a balletic and fluid skater, though I think I saw more of that inspiration from Ksenia today which was odd. There wasn’t really any part of it that stood out to me, it was good but it wasn’t “captivating”. Again, competitive but I wish there was more.

After the SP... my thoughts:

1. Kamila ... she has the all package .. but to be honest i already forget her music choice (and most of them) ... and the long dress not for her ( makes me remember medvedeva)
2. Tuk... I like the music, she got the jumps and she looks comfortable
3. Trusova ( the best music choice and probably program), Kostornaia ( she has the power to turn every program in a master piece and the 3A is on the corner)
4. Shcherbakova ... To be honest I don't know if she won't become a Medvedeva with an injury in the olympic season ... and the program is always the same style ... but to be honest anna is resilient, iron mind and she normally skates better in the second half of the season ( i never like her programs the first time I see there programs)
5. Daria ( kostornaia 2.0 but with the right choice of music) and Maia ( I just love the program) -> they could be the true surprise and if weren't for the PCs in the international field they would be 3 and 4
6. Ksenia .. she is a beautifull skater but without the difficult jumps or the international experience will be though
7. Nugumanova .. ur

To my surprise Trusova is the only one with a true olympic program .. maybe because they think she can't get pcs otherwise

So… that was underwhelming. Well, some thoughts nevertheless (TL;DR at the end):

Anna: Love the music, love the concept and idea, love her portrayal. But the choreography is just…. non-existant, really? There‘s a few vaguely "oriental" hand movements (that could have been copied straight out of Zagitova‘s Cleopatra) and the standard "Shcherbakova-transitions" that Gleikhengauz makes her use in every program. But it will be a good Olympic program, mainly because Anna is one heck of a performer. Even at this point of the season, the intensity is all there. She SOLD this program to me, despite my disappointment about the choreo and her own technical mistakes. I don‘t think there‘s anyone else among the current women who manages to not let mistakes affect the performance in any way. Only her. Jumps? Never been a fan of her technique, never mattered much anyway. She tends to underwhelm at test skates, so… we‘ll see what happens throughout the season.

Sasha: Surprisingly, I think this was my favorite performance, mainly because it surprised me so much. First off, she looks so fierce in that dress with that hair. And her performance felt much improved, so much so in fact, that I could barely believe it‘s her. There were shades of that last year already but today I really felt she was smoother in her movements (without losing any of her power) and less frantic. I‘m not a fan of the music but I can see this program in an Olympic arena. Now, I wish this could carry on to the FS but I fear that with 5 quads, there simply won‘t be much time for something like choreography….

Jumps are same old story, as well. I think she has a similar problem as Zhilina, if less aggravated. Both are very powerful but also kinda nervous skaters and tend to put too much energy into their jumps when under pressure. That‘s why we saw Sasha overrotate the 3Lz in the SP at Worlds and the 3A here. If she gets that under control, though, she‘s a lock for the Olympics. No one jumps like her.

Aliona: Bit of a mixed bag really. The 3A was << and it threw her off hard until the step sequence. The 3Lz and combo have looked better as well. Good for her for not falling but… well. She‘s my favorite, so maybe I have higher standards but I fear for her Olympic chances. She really needs to get that leg wrap and URs under control.

The program is okay, I guess? It doesn’t really feel "Olympic" to me but very few programs today did… Too much wailing for me (Maiia’s music is much better) but she seems to love it and really sold the step sequence. There was a point after the second spin, where she let it all go and almost sang along lol. If she has this kind of energy throughout the entire program, it‘ll be great. She‘s still the best overall skater for me and she has that undeniable "it" factor but she needs to be on.

Kamila: Well, she‘s almost perfect. And maybe that‘s what bothers me so much. Thing is, if I watch Anna, Sasha and Aliona, they all have distinct strengths and weaknesses and personalities and they all come across in the program. Kamila‘s skating, in comparison, feels generically beautiful to me. Like, there‘s nothing obvious to criticise (other than the horrible technique on her combos) but also nothing about her performance that makes it particularly engaging or memorable. It doesn’t help that the SP is pretty much Daniil doing copy paste from Storm and changing the music. She‘ll still win the OGM barring serious meltdown and it will be deserved but she‘s never going to be a favorite of mine.

Daria: I prefer this SP to last year‘s, mainly because I like the music more. Other than that, it‘s the kind of choreography/theme she‘s had for the last few years. She‘s a beautiful skater and she seems more engaged in her performance than Kamila but that‘s about it. If she gets a 3A, she‘ll be in contention for the Olympic team.

Maiia: I like this program and her intepretation has grown from last year. More confidence as well. Same story as for Daria: if she lands the quads, she has a shot. Can‘t really say more about it, other than that I seriously dislike her posture during her combinations.

Liza is the same she‘s always been. Her skating style will never be my cup of tea but good for her for showing that you can be in contention even at the ancient age of 25. (this sounds so wrong lol) She could, theoretically, make the team but I think a lot of things would have to go wrong for the skaters from TeamTut for that to happen.

Sinitsyna‘s program was beautiful and quietly captivating. I liked the choreography as well. She‘s just a good skater overall. Won‘t get on the Olympic team but I hope she can pick up some medals at Challengers and the GP.

Not much to say about Samodurova and Nugumanova, sadly. I like both of them and think they‘re good skaters in their own right but they were outclassed hard today and it shows.

TL;DR: my favorites were Anna and Sasha. Aliona‘s program has room to grow and I think I‘ll end up liking it. Gleikhengauz’s choreography has seen more original times all in all. My opinion also solidified that, if I could choose an Olympic team, it would consist of the "3A". They‘re the most memorable to me because they‘re all unique in their own way and it shows in every performance of theirs.

That's what I don't understand. "Storm" already WAS a perfect vehicle for a SP. The music and choreo blended amazingly (isn't that part of PCS?). I seriously hope that there's been some big changes to Bolero....

I wish Valieva kept the Storm, and I didn't like the weird edge shifting between jumps in the combination. But overall she is a gold material.

Tuktik did great and the program is the best of all programs today. She also stepped up on the speed and spins.

Sasha was better than expected PCS wise, but still same thing with the 3A.
Jumped it 3747 times in the warmup...
I think this could really create problems with getting that Oly spot.

Daria, Alyona and Anna programs are just...
Especially Daria deserves something more expressive maybe even classical, her current program reminds me of Karen Chens from last year. Only Karen did it better...
