Daria....she said she got the 3A. And then injury ruined it. Her 2A is so big so of course. I'm just going to have to wonder why there is no footage. For Daria especially, she needs people to have confidence in her ultra-C capabilities more than anybody. Work on the 4S is not even talked about anymore.

In comparison, Maiia has even learned the 4T-3T. Everything is going so well, smart decision to keep that stellar SP. The FS is still comparable to last year's at least. I am a bit shocked more skaters didn't keep programs.

Valieva. With the layout she's going for it's clear to me that Eteri has every confidence in her ability to perform it. I think it's just a matter of time until it comes. All the vital signs are still perfect. She might have to adjust to her new height but she has plenty of time.
I assume the lack of footage is partly because 1TV practically holds a monopoly on all figure skating in Russia now. I assume they wanted to build suspense and increase ratings leading up to test skates, as well as film all the footage themselves. That’s why probably we haven’t seen anything.

Sasha is still absolutely crazy! She wants to restore the 4Lo and add it to competitions, and the 3A to the free program too. Just be careful. I hope Eteri is able to pull her back. It's just incredible to even be able to train 4 different quads for a free skate and land them all. 5 quads and a 3A too? Do it the season after the Olympics.

And then Aliona is the opposite. Her coaches really believe in her. Daniil saying the quad is all in her mind means he thinks she can do it for the Olympics. But she's scared of injury and doesn't want to risk. I don't think we'll see her do a quad if she herself doesn't want it, she's not even keen on training it. Complete opposite to Sasha who carry on jumping until someone told her to stop. It's hilarious that they are polar opposites!
The problem with Aliona ... in Daniil words is all in her head ... she has all it takes to do it but her head don't let her ... it must be frustrating for the coach knowing that you can do it but your head don't let you achieve your full potencial ... But I believe that aliona will have a 4 for the olympics

For everyone counting out Shcherbakova let me just point out - when has that ever worked out for you? It seems every year at test skates she's not the best there and people start declaring her done and the season never works out that way.

Regarding her toe-pick being better, pre-illness last year I remember a good number of people remarking it looked better but then she got sick and was limping her way to finish the season and she probably had to revert to the hammer-toe to force the jumps
I’m not counting her out, I think she’s pretty much in that Olympic team right now

I think half my posts here have some form of “never, ever count Anna out” haha

People sometimes forget this sport is mental as well. And nobody catches Anna when it comes to that.

Plus, she is a big game player that finds a way, she just does. Clutch players should always be respected. When push comes to shove, she goes home with the gold.

Plus, as the old adage goes, to be the woman you have to beat the woman. Nobody had yet.

i can't wait to see everyone's final costumes for the season. i don't know if we saw any at test skates besides Tuk, Samodurova and Sinitsyna. maybe Daria and Maiia. The others were either wearing old ones or nicer dresses that weren't quite as fancy as their normal competition dresses. i am hoping for a new Bolero for Kamila and i'm taking bets Sasha's LP will be black and white, kind of like her Sia dress.

Sasha is like the lyrics.. "call me crazy call me insane ! 😂.. I love her. Not sure how much Eteri can reign her in. We shall see. I think this young women is on her own trajectory and I'm all for it. She is determined to do those 5 quads. She is high risk , all or nothing. Not saying it's right strategy for gold, but you know what you got to stay true to yourself in this life. I admire her for that. Yes Aliona has always been more tentative. Really love both these skaters. Await the season with baited breath.

Coincidentally, I was thinking about the same thing. Maybe sometimes it’s better to not listen to your coaches and do your own thing.

Eteri and Plushenko both wanted her to lower the horsepower, but she was adamant on doing it her way.

And we got what was technically, easily the greatest skate of all time. That skate was full of oohs and ahhs.

And that red hair only adds to it. Fire marshals need to be at the ready each and every time she skates. Haha

Haha , we did and whatever people's personal taste I have a wide range of tastes , credit this young lady she is a phenomenal athlete.

Hmmm...not so sure.

It's not a secret that I never been on the Kostornaia train, she has always been overrated imo.

But I think that might make me a little bit more objective. Don't get me wrong, Kostornaia is a wonderful skater and I root for her. But what I saw today was not the Kostornaia with passion for figure skating...what I saw was someone being bored (and scared).

Of course I might be totally wrong and have the wrong impression. And I would love to if Kostornaia proves me wrong this season. We'll see what happens...
I would argue that even if you saw someone that was scared - that's not a sign of someone who has given up.

Neither was her beautifully landed 3A.

My thoughts after rewatching yesterday's free skates:

DARIA: The program is generic and fine and that's about it. I normally don't mind Nessun Dorma but sadly Daniil chose the most dull version of it for Daria. She was lovely as always and she does well with the material she's given, but I just think she's capable of more.

KSENIIA: This performance made me wonder if she's ever skated this program completely clean in training, because right now it doesn't seem like she has the stamina to do so. There's still over a month until Skate America, so she does have time, but it is worrying. The program isn't anything special for me either, especially compared to her short. I really liked the spin where she spun in both directions though, that was a cool addition!

LIZA N: As I've always said, I love her and her skating, but this program feels very juvenile to me. I feel like this music should be for a 13 year old making their junior debut, not a 19 year old who's been a senior for years. She does seem to enjoy it though, which I always like to see. RIP to basically all of her jumps though.

SOFIA: I actually liked this program and I think it could be a really good vehicle for her. The new version of Mulan really does have a nice soundtrack/score. She lit up more when the Christina Aguilera song came in, now she just needs that energy for the rest of it! Jumps are still a major issue though.

MAIIA: Okay, I love this program. Honestly, I think Maiia has one of the strongest sets of programs from Team Tutberidze this year. She does tango very very well and the program is so nicely choreographed! My only complaint is that I hate this version of El Tango de Roxanne and I wish they'd used the original, but oh well.

ALENA: I actually really like The Four Seasons as music, but the program is just so empty. I hope she'll be able to work with Daniil and add more choreography before her first competition. She does seem to be in much better shape than she was at this time last year, so I'm cautiously optimistic for her this season. And it was so great to see her finally land the 3A again, even if it was underrotated!

ANNA: Another one of my favorites from yesterday, she has a very strong set of programs this year as well! This free skate is a very interesting combination of songs, but somehow it works? And I really like it! I loved the Master and Margarita section, she really came alive and performed there. And just like with her short, I'm really interested to see what her dress will look like!

LIZA T: Another classic Liza program. It was fine, but nothing we haven't seen before, especially from her. I do think it'll be a crowd pleaser if and when she skates it clean, and she obviously enjoys performing it.

KAMILA: This program did grow on me a lot over the course of last season, and I really love it now. She does a great job with it, and I love when she really starts performing in the step sequence. The 3-quad layout isn't quite there yet, but that 3A was a beauty! Can't wait to see her on the Grand Prix.

SASHA: Well, I think it's safe to say the Quad Queen is back! Those jumps were just incredible. The program itself is pretty empty, but my god, if she can do this in competition she will not be beaten this season. I think this program will be a really good vehicle for her!

It's going to be a very exciting season, that's for sure!

We know Sasha will fly to the US tommorow to compete there but what about the others? I think there are only two challengers left before the GP starts, Finlandia Trophy and Asian Open Trophy. Can we expect most of the other top ladies to start their season there?

The Russians may experience difficulty obtaining visas. Officially due to Sputnik V not certified and other vaccines are problematic to obtain.
Trusova said few days ago her US visa is OK. Tutberidze and Davis are citizens of the US and not required visa. I understand Smolkin is OK too.
The rest of skaters status is undefined.

Well... I think eteri challenger for people who doesn't have 5 quads in a program ... will be challenge enough.
I think maybe daria and maya will go to get points and testing the waters ... maybe kostornaia for confidence ... I think anna and kamilla won't go to any.
